  1. Give real help on Google Highlights Censored Search Terms In China · · Score: 0

Really want to help your China users? Make Google HTTPS-only in China and force DNS resolution of non-Chinese Google servers so their government has no idea what they're searching for.

  2. Welcome to 10 years ago on Why People Who Make Things Should Learn Chinese · · Score: 0

I already learned Russian near the end of the Cold War, I'll just take a pass on learning Chinese right before the 700 million people *not* included in their glorious creation of a privileged elite burn the whole thing to the ground. This is a state in a desparate race to reform its corrupt police state architecture before the majority of people notice that the ideological justification of its existence was abandoned long ago. And they're losing.

  5. Here's how it doesn't work out that way on Here Come the Linux iPad Clones · · Score: 1

" All that said, I agree the iPad is really cool. I predict with absolute faith that the iPad and its clones are going to kill off single purpose devices like dedicated eReaders such as Amazon's Kindle and GPS devices within the next three years. How can it not work out this way? For the same price as a high-end dedicated device you can get a tablet that will do everything they can do and far more." Spoken like someone who doesn't use a Kindle. Let's see, iPad will have shorter battery life, make me pay a monthly fee for a data plan, won't read easily in strong sunlight like a real book ... in other words, not have any of the functionality of what I bought a Kindle for, which was to replace 2 or 3 hardback BOOKS when I get on the plane, not replace my DVD player or laptop.

  7. Ivory Tower thinking at its worst on GPS-Based System For Driving Tax Being Field Tested · · Score: 1

If these geniuses think it is a 'no-brainer' that you can get political support for a government-mandated tracking device being planted in every American's car, they have been sniffing the bunsen burner for way, way too long.

  8. No way on Time To Cut the Ethernet Cable? · · Score: 1

I'll echo the security & bandwidth concerns, and add in the hassles of supporting every person whose quirky WLAN card causes them to drop & renegotiate DHCP too frequently. This is not at all like land-line vs. cel phone, and treating it as if it were and ethernet was somehow inevitably going to fade into obsolescence is ridiculous.

So ... a state that still criminalizes certain forms of sex performed between consenting adults in the privacy of their home considers traffic cameras an invasion of privacy. Priceless.

  12. Idiots on ESRB Revokes San Andreas Rating · · Score: 1

Bad things happen to stupid people ... if they knowingly distributed porn through interstate commerce to minors, no amount of saying 'Oh but we never intended for them to actually *see* it when we put it on the disk' doubletalk will save their asses .... it is hard to imagine how much this is going to cost them.

  13. Dumb & Dumber on SWG Players - Comment on the Combat Upgrade · · Score: 1

The general dumbing-down of the game imposed by the C.U. makes you think they must want a greater appeal to console gamers. They basically destroyed the crafting, medical & entertainment professions, added cartoony EQ-ish special effects to combat, and removed the last hope that the once-promising potential of this game system will ever be realized. A huge number of the original, adult players had already left this project months ago, but the last holdouts who had hoped for a professional management team to take over look to be leaving now.
