    What bothers me about the article is that it takes the stance of "The debate has always been which architecture is best. Now, since the human brain processes data serially, the debate is settled."

    Since when was it established that the human way of processing things was the best for sure??? Very poor logic on their part (IMHO)

    Sounds great. ...but it also sounds like obscene feature creep.

    Does anyone know if all these tools are loadable on an as-needed basis? I don't relish the idea of a huge application any more than the next guy, but if they're all just "plug-ins" then it's got to be a good thing.

    The last attack by terrorists on American soil was the World Trade Center bombing, was it not?
    WRong. Oklahoma City bombing, any/all of the Unabomber stuff. Atlanta Olympics bombings. Just because the perpetrators of those crimes were born in the USA, doesn't mean they don't qualify as terrorists. Remember, our greatest enemy is ourselves.

    There are some trivial ones (video stores cannot release records of your rentals, for example).
    FUNNY!. I can hear the folks at Amazon.com now. "Well, it's not ok to release records of what movies people rented...but I don't see why we shouldn't be able to release records of what books people bought..."

    We have striped drivers licenses in Michigan too....i tried for a long time not to get one....but I lose my old non-striped one eventually.

    I think the real problem with the national gov't having this power is that it's counter-active to the entire setup of the USA. Granting of licenses is a power granted the individual states of the union. Information gleaned from the granting of such licenses should therefor also be given only to the states in which the licenses are granted.

    They could use bar codes even! :) That might look cooler than just having the number tatooed on us....if they put the bar codes on teh backs of our necks, evil computers could scan us as we arrived for work each day.

    Imagine the possibilities....i think I saw this in a movie, but it's too early for me to remember.

    I've been using AMD chips on my production servers for quite some time now. Haven't had a problem. Just went live with a K6-III 450 and it's already exceeding expectations.

    I think your fears are unfounded....but that's just my opinion.

    I disagree. the Hotmail tagline is "Get your free, private email at hotmail.com". This implies (IANAL but I think LEGALLY implies it).

    Compare that to most "freeware" (beer/speech/sex) licenses that say something like "this software is distributed without warrantee or guarantee of any kind".

    I would say that the biggest mistake made by HOtmail was claiming that they were secure and private for so long.

    it would be a very bad business decision. They would lose the trust and support of the very developers and community they rely on in order to provide their product.

    This is really the crux of what most /.'ers are forgetting....Red Hat exists for one reason: to make money. They're NOT going to make any money by pissing all over the LInux community... SO THEY WON'T.

    I wonder if this is real? That's something I always wonder on slashdot when we link off to other stories.

    In this case, I was wondering, is it just me? Or does this read like a hoax written by a 13 year old?

    On a broader note, how does "new journalism" validate the things it reports on? I've been bothered by this for quite some time. I mean, what's to prevent me from writing some story, taking out a hotmail account called "Busch@hotmail.com" and writing in about how I'm the plant manager for Busch Beer and we've just switched all our floor-control boxes over to Linux?

    Just wondering....and I think it's something that will have to be addressed as the Slashdot-esqe news source fights for credibility.

    wrong....see the other comments or read my summarY:

    Distributed.net stuff is installed by choice, and any users of the clients are fully aware WHAT and HOW OFTEN personal data is transferred over the net.

    Comare that to softwares and P-IIIs that blindly report who you are, and what you're doing back to their masters. This is done without users' knowledge, and without giving users the option to opt-out of the data transfer. hardly fair, and hardly the same thing.

    3) While i chuckled. The icons aren't useless. Come on! They link to the red hat site..so they have the red hat logo. One of them links to the Gnome site, and it has the Gnome logo. Certainly makes sense to me.

    There's even a drop-in replacement for Explorer.exe if I recall correctly. The only time in my entire existence that I've truly enjoyed my time in Windows 95/98/NT was when I had Litestep installed as my default shell.

    I HIGHLY recommend it for people stuck using windows at work who wish they could use Linux. it may still be windows, but at least it looks nice. :) You can get Litestep HERE. Try it...you'll thank me. :)

    Why is the default setup for E in RH "incorrect"?! It's just different from how you want to use it. Personally, it's my experience that you can't switch a Windows user over to Linux without starting the config out the way RH has. My fiance for example couldn't stand (at first) to have windows automatically focus when she moved her pointer over them....she was used to clicking on title bars to get focus, and didn't mind it. Before you flame Red Hat for shipping a faulty product think a bit.

    Not to nitpick...but doesn't Miguel come off in this interview as a little naive or something? I can't quite put my finger on it....but I can picture an executive reading this and laughing his arse off.

    I'm not saying his company won't work....but this reads a little like an Onion article or something.

    that's just my $0.06 (Canadian) mind you.
