  1. hmmm. on Finns Outlaw Virus Writing · · Score: 2
I think this is too reactionary. ..but only if they plan to strictly enforce the law against distributing them.

Think about it. If it's illegal to distribute virii, then it'll be much more difficult for anti-virus software producers to get copies of the virus in order to write an antidote.

  2. hilarous on Red Hat Releases 2nd Quarter Financials · · Score: 1
Sometimes the stock market is hilarious. I mean...here you have a company that practically screams "WE'RE GOING TO OPERATE AT A LOSS FOR A WHILE"...and still...their earnings report comes out, announces a loss, and their stock price slips (not much...but it's slipped today).

Sheesh. Where's rabbins when you need?

  3. Re:What would a MS break up look like? on Microsoft Antitrust Case Arguments Finished · · Score: 2
I disagree. I don't think that the people actually doing the coding are rallying against anything (including Microsoft).

Most of us code because a tool we need doesn't exist, or isn't good enough. A breakup of Microsoft doesn't change this at all.

If anything, it might galvanize the open source community .... all of a sudden the spotlight would be equally distributed, less FUD from Microsoft, and less time spent deflecting stupid questions like "but who can we sue when something doesn't work?"

  6. is he wrong? on Dvorak On Linux And "The Big Time" · · Score: 5
He's not entirely wrong. Linux isn't always the best task for the job.

It's just that, his tone angers me. He takes the approach that Linux is A Bad Thing because it has weaknesses. That's absurd. Everything has weaknesses. Linux just overcomes its weaknesses quickly and efficiently.

There's no need for taking an inflamatory tone when stating facts....he could have written the same article, state some of the same facts, and said merely "due to these shortcomings, there are times when Linux isn't the best solution." If he'd done that, I wouldn't be so angry.

....of cousre most of his articles have read like this one. Too bad.

My basic view is: There is a place for portal pages. There is a place for search engines. There is a place for search-engine links on portal pages. but they don't have to be the same thing. I personally dont' WANT to look at a portal page. I like having the option of just using the search engine. AltaVista's trend toward portal-hood distressed me greatly when it happened. Oh well.

What will they do when Microsoft is gone, and it's a Sun vs. Linux world???
