  1. iOS7 release = less thefts...? on Google and Microsoft Plan Kill Switches On Smartphones · · Score: 1

if the drop in theft of one device and the rise in theft of a competing device both seem to hinge on the same event, then it does stand to reason that the event (the release of iOS7) is the reason... but why would we believe it is this specific feature? Given the security issues and complaints that accompanied iOS7 when it released, isn't there another reasonable explanation? Perhaps iOS devices became somewhat less popular and the Samsung devices filled that void? I'm just saying, there is a correlation for sure, but there's not compelling evidence that the implied cause is correct.

  2. Re:Are thieves that selective? on Google and Microsoft Plan Kill Switches On Smartphones · · Score: 1

You may be right, but the summary & article both pretty strongly imply that the kill switch is reducing theft numbers for the device. I can't help but wonder if this is actually a result of there being more samsung phones in the wild now than before, and/or less iOS phones.

  6. Re:Evolution in action! on Elon Musk: I'll Put a Human On Mars By 2026 · · Score: 1

Actually, evolution works through life, not death. The best adaptations for the given environment get to reproduce and produce young. It is entirely possible that in low gravity, something in our reproductive systems doesn't work as we'd expect and it becomes much more difficult to produce children -- in which case, the natural selection would be through which mutations allow children to be conceived and raised rather than through death.

I think you may have a fundamental misunderstanding of evolution if you believe it works only through death. Evolution is about generations (many, many generations), not about a single lifetime. Evolution isn't about the death of the mutations that don't work, it's about the reproduction of the mutations that DO work. The examples you gave about pilgrims has nothing to do with evolution.

Thanks for being the only person on this entire thread to say something useful. Diversity isn't about fairness to genders or races, it's about getting the best representation so that you get input from places you might not have looked otherwise. It's not a question of talent, it's a question of perspective. As evidenced by the rest of the comments, people suck at getting perspective in today's society.

I think what you're missing here is that we are not at the *end* of human evolution, but instead we are somewhere in the middle. Perhaps that's why the human face is better than some other creatures for taking a punch, but not as good as it could be. Also keep in mind that there are many other factors that would go into the evolution of the human face, and what we look like right now is a result of all of those to varying degrees.
