Har- Batman, you are not going to do well here with your consistantly well reasoned posts.
Anyway, there have been conflicting reports, as I have read that the French and others say that Russia does not really have this weapon.
And my question is this- If there were one or two ICBMs headed towards us, wouldn't some brave air force pilots go on a mission and fly their planes right into the missiles over the ocean, bringing them down?
I won't belive that Russia really has these weapons until Putin bangs his shoe on the table and tells us he will bury us.

"Railfans" i.e.e people who love Trains and Railroads and take a lot of pictures have had this problem since Sept. 11. I wish I wasn't at work (for a lot of reasons) because at home I have an article from Trains Magazine about how some railfans have had their photo equipment confiscated. Some have even been arrested (but later had charges dropped). These arrested railfans were photographing from public places, and not trespassing.
Police need to use common sense- if people are wearing dark clothing, and hiding in the woods taking long range telephoto lens pics of stuff, then maybe they are suspicious. But my friends who are railfans are at least as non threatening and gee geeky as my tech friends, and when asked by police they always tell them that what they are doing.
What's next- banning tourists from taking pictures in Washington D.C.?

YEs someone who shops at Whole Foods wouild likely appreciate the social responsibility. But in general, would a Wal mart customer? It depends upon which view of business ethics you follow. Some of the models popularized in the 70s and beyond say that a business should be socially responsible. (Some may say this is because of an inate responsibility, others may say that it is due to the fact that being 'socially responsible" is good for shareholders and other stakeholders because it helps the bottom line) The truth is, businesses, especially publicly traded ones, have a fiduciary responsibility to make moeny for shareholders.
I have one question for all the high and mighty people who say that businesses should be "socially responsible" at the expens of shareholders:
How would you feel if your 401K (or other investments) lost half of their value because the companies in your portfolio were being "socially resoponsible?
Sereiously, not to impune anyone, but businesses exist to make $$$. To think otherwise is Hippy wishful thinking.

For example, if you asked Should the government have the absolute right to listen in on calls being made by known al queda members to people in the united states>
you would get a totally different answer than if you asked
Should the government be able to listen it to calls being made by anyone remotely suspected of being a terrorist?
