Not in this case. Since the defendant (Google) most likely has a well-staffed legal department, it's sunk cost. They'll have to shell out for the court fees, but the people are already paid for (unlike smaller defendants, who would have to shell out for a lawyer or two for their case).
Coming from someone whose future probably depends on intellectual property (i.e. most of the first world), that doesn't carry much weight. Best of luck with your "IP economy".
I suggest paying for better service (i.e. business class) then. Those of us streaming Netflix and Hulu for the same amounts of time we'd watch TV in a month seem to be doing just fine.
We stream Netflix to 3-4 devices in our house all the time, my brother is constantly playing PC and multiplayer Xbox360 games, etc. If you're hitting the 250GB cap, you're doing something seriously wrong.
Movies and music are paid for just like bread. You walk up and hand over cash. If you walk out of the store without paying, you're a thief. Same thing here...
I'd be a "thief" in the US. In other countries with sane IP laws, I'd be a regular person. It's gonna get copied. Deal with it.
When somebody can't make their rent because of the $1500 "fine", I hope they show up at your home of that of one of the lawyers for US Copyright Group. Because, clearly, they needed to be taught a lesson about downloading a movie they didn't pay for.
Anyone really want to risk their financial future on those odds?
Depends. Is your house underwater? Credit cards run up? Paycut at work? If you're already financially battered by the economy, this would be your breaking point. You'd say "fuck it" and just walk away. Can't get blood from a turnip.
I didn't say news corporations, did I? I said corporations in general. You know, the ones that buy politicians via lobbyists and who use said lobbyists to provide talking points to those same politicians and the mass media?
Because you want to plan a bit before you use twin 30,000 horsepower pumps to shove tens of thousands of gallons of "mud" into a well that could fracture and and fail, causing untold devastation of the Gulf.
Agreed. I made back my Costco membership ($50) last year on gas purchases alone (15 cents/gallon savings off other fuel stations * 60 gallons/month = $108 in savings a year). Stupid to pay to shop somewhere with a fixed margin on quality goods? HAH!
The one time I went to see a launch in person, the launch was scrubbed due to winds at an alternate landing site. I ended up seeing the launch from my plane back to Chicago from 200 miles away (pilot turned the plane so you could see it). While sad, I'd give a vital organ to be at the first manned SpaceX launch.
So much this. Send a telepresence robot up with every launch to the ISS. Have people on the ground take shifts bolting everything together. They get to go home at the end of their shift, and we save tens-hundreds of millions per launch.
How do you get involved with efforts such as disaster relief at that sort of level? Not "centrally involved" such as yourself, as I'm sure that entails working for the State Dept. or a branch of the military (the Marines in this case), but still doing something useful if the skills are there.
If you get busted for drug dealing they will take all of your money.
Sounds very much like a tax to me. =)

Depriving someone of profit/revenue =! stealing.
Hmm, I'll have to email Comcast. Even after simply logging in, I get taken to the Manage My User Account section with no "My Devices" area (or meter).
Awesome, thanks.
Where can you check your Comcast usage? Do they provide a web interface?

Seems to have worked pretty well for Lost, Heroes, Bones, and other television shows.

You also have a right to a free press, which is not possible when corporations control the funds. He who holds the funding holds the reins
Fixed that for ya.
Never send a man to do a robots job.

But if I wanted to, I legally could. No whining just because someone's actually done it.
It's a moral/ethical issue: was what they did wrong?
No.
