My real problem with your sanctamoneous argument is it may lead others in authority to stifle a source I benefit from. Your arguments are like those of the antigun nuts. Guns are used in crimes lets ban guns.
Please me show a posting where I advocate the elimination of IRC and DCC. You are taking a statement, "DCC is mainly used to transfer pirated files" and assuming I am stating "DCC should be outlawed because it is mainly used to transfer pirated files". I am just stately a fact of life not making a moral judgment.
Well if you are so sure you are right that a majority of files transfered via DCC are legit, lets see your proof. We are not stupid here, we know what IRC and DCC is mainly used for -- just read the other posts on this topic. Please don't insult our intelligence here on Slashdot.
Next thing you are going to tell me is the Earth is flat. You wouldn't be calling me a "troll" if you couldn't back up your case.
My, my aren't we a little defensive. Did I make a moral judgment about piracy? All I said that the majority of the transfers done via DCC are for pirated files. So far, all I have heard is, "Yea, so, other people pirate through [insert protocol here]". I never said that improving the protocol would make one "responsible" for piracy. All I said that pirates would "rejoice" from the improvement.
Why do people have an issue with honesty? DCC is used mainly for piracy -- oh yea, that and "log files".
It seems like you have only been exposed to bots using DCC to send you files. You are talking about someone who distributes music on IRC or whatever, when in reality DCC is more than a means for bots to offer files. Normal users send files too... it's just like sending an email attachment.. you use those don't you?
If I want to send a file, I am going to use a better method than DCC. Once again, we have the 1% trying to parade around as the majority. Don't insult our intelligence here, a vast majority of the files transfered by DCC are pirated. You log files aren't the size of DVD rips unless you don't know how to get things working.
Is DCC used by anyone else but file pirates and music traders? I mean really. Come on. Don't lie. Oh sure, you know a guy who has a cousin with a good friend that has a girlfriend whose brother distributes his folk music on IRC but besides that, anyone else using DCC for legit transfers?
I have my Linksys cable/dsl router pointing the DMZ to an old notebook running redhat 8 and portsentry. One thing I have noticed is that a majority of the hits I record are for port 2000. These are coming from all over the world and I have no clue what is hitting it. Does anyone know what would be probing port 2000? I was disappointed that it didn't show up on the graph at the WormRadar site. I figured if I was being probed for the port it would be universal.
If you are using Mac OS X, you can use audio hijaak pro. It lets you record RealAudio, Windows Media and MP3 streams. I use it all the time to time shift radio shows I like to AAC or MP3 for my iPod. Works like a charm. You can set up schedules and file sizes. Really sharp.
I bought a 12" PowerBook six months ago! I would have waited if Apple would have told us that a faster one would come out in the future! Damn you Steve Jobs!
Guess now I will just have to wait for my carbon-fiber, dual G5 PowerBook with fold out twin displays and fuel cell technology battery with 12 hours of life that the rumor sites are talking about.
On of the many woes of being a Mac user is that we do not have the multitude of viral applications that Windows users have. Now that we have our first trojan, we are on the path of being like Windows users. However, it is my fear like most Windows applications, we are going to have to wait months and months before we get our next one...

[PATCH] fix the disgronification build again after subarch memory breakage
The patch to check "disgronif=N" early broke by putting memdef (a variable which is only exported by subparse.c) into parse_memory_region_early().
Finally! I have been having so much trouble with the MIPS port because of a memory leak from the improper disgronification check since 2.6.3. This is a very crucial patch. Way to go!
What the heck is Hannitized? Sanitized you mean? And how does that relate to Dean?

Apple used to have a massive product line with dizzying list of model numbers. Not only did it confuse customers but it also brought down quality and delayed shipping of many of the models. Now you can just buy a notebook (iBook and PowerBook) and a desktop (eMac, iMac & PowerMac) from Apple. Sure you can supe up the basic model they sell but you are still buying a standardized item.
Yep, the perfect mark, doesn't even know they have been had.
They see it as Dean took all the media heat for that amount of time..the first person to hit the beach, and hard. And set the tone for the entire debate in a very positive fasion.
Are you joking? Set the debate in a very positive fashion? Accusing the President of the United States of having prior knowledge of the 9/11 attacks is completely the opposite of a positive debate.
Taking money from gullible fools. Howard Dean did an excellent job of this, transferring 40+ million dollars from Americans to his bank account. And what did these American's get for millions and millions of dollars, zip, zero, nada, well except his home state of Vermont...after he dropped out. This is the greatest internet swindle since Pets.com went public.
I don't think a Democrat will look at a bat the same way ever again...
This (bankrupting the RIAA by giving them $3000) is as brilliant as bankrupting Microsoft by buying cheap Xboxes (which is to say, not at all brilliant in the least).
Microsoft covers its loses with the XBox with other business divisions. What does the RIAA do besides sue people that download music that brings in income? At some point, funding the RIAA would become prohibitive for the powers that be in the music industry. I think when they see the futility of suing everyone, they will start to embrace more consumer friendly distribution methods. We are seeing some breakthrough of that mentality in the new online music stores.

I would love to get a Woz blue box. Sure it wouldn't work but it would be a work of art.

Just like it did for SCO and Corel!
You're fucking with us, right? You can't be serious? Robot psychiatrist? Or is this some sort of late Slashdot April's Fools Day joke?

That's because I use the average Mac. Much safer than the average PC, even safer than the Average Penguin Box.

A: One, HFS+ (or two if you count HFS, both of which are terrible)
Can also format what Apple calls the "Unix File System".
"My Adidas", i.e., my feet. Low tech, always work and centuries of beta testing.

Maybe it is a WAN. Just depends if the "W" in WAN means "Wireless".
Frodo kicks ass!

It must cost the RIAA more than $3,000 per case to file against file swappers. Lawyers don't come cheap...
It's an interesting stroll down memory lane. Not for me, it's Slashdotted! Thanks again!
