Nothing better than going to work as a web developer after spending tons of money on training, certifications and years of effort only to end up having a "reformed" cold blooded murder/drug dealer/gang banger, that was set up and funded by our tax dollars through some government subsidized program, sitting in the cubicle right next you because your company wants to snag a tax break. Not only do I have to worry about Middle Eastern Terrorists ramming a plane into my building, I have to worry about a 2Pac wannabe having a PCP induced flashback and bustin' a cap in my ass!
If I am even a second late with a loan payment for my education, I have some robotic bill collector tracking me down like the Terminator. I should have been smart in my youth. Instead of studying, taking a second job and busting my rear end tracking down alternative education funding, I should broken every law in the book -- sold drugs, shot people and operated in a criminal conspiracy. I would have less debt, gotten more tail and a free education in the same career I have today. God, I am such an idiot. What was I thinking? Must have been some bizarre idea that the American Dream was achieved by hard work and respecting my fellow man.
Does it ever pay to be honest in our society anymore?
And to the question of, "Well, what you have them do?", the answer would be, "Sit in jail". If we keep rewarding bad behavior in this country, there is no use in promoting good behavior.
The limited number of PCI slots (on home systems) vs ISA slots makes it an issue for people who want to have a system like this
1. PCI SCSI
2. PCI Modem
3. PCI Firewire
4. PCI IDE Accelerator
5. PCI NIC
6. PCI Sound Card
7. etc
I presume the video is AGP.
Gee I forgot what it meant not to own an Apple PowerMac. All those items you mentioned are stock on my Dual G4/500 motherboard excluding my Adaptec SCSI PCI Card. I feel for you man, I would have to be saddled with ISA slots. What a waste.
Not this time. Once again, Steve Jobs blows it! He hasn't been able to pull a rabbit out of his hat in a long time. My year-old Archos Jukebox 6000 has more capacity than iPod it just lacks firewire, it uses USB. If you are not changing music alot, it doesn't make much of a difference.
Steve Jobs is cashing in on the only profitable sector of the Internet, pr0n. Check out the secret testing labs for Apple's new product, "iBrator". Their Chief of Product Quality and Testing, Lisa Catherine Clark, discusses the features and benefits of the "iBrator" here.
Apple has used "iBook" even though another product has used that name. However I don't think that "iWalk" will be announced. Its a cool looking hoax in my opinion. My bet is "iKerbango". I had one ordered for six months at Amazon before it was cancelled.
Okay, okay! You got me beat. I hadn't lost that much of my common sense!!!:)
Lets not forget the other big news...

Qt Released For OS X
·
· Score: 3, Funny
...No not about the mystery press conference tomorrow where Steve Jobs will turn on the Reality Distortion Field and shock us with his "pssst, It's not a Mac" new product. No, I am talking about the native port of Tcl/Tk applications on Mac OS X!!!
You know I am going to end up with whatever Steve Jobs shows off tomorrow. I already have a closet full of Netwons, QuickTake Digital Cameras, Power CDs and exploding PowerBook 5300 batteries for home defense.
Thanks for the note. I already have Mac OS X running X Windows and GNOME, just not well. I get a ton of errors and program crashes. Sure Mac OS X can handle the crashing apps well, but I can't when one of my GNOME games does and my high score is in sight!:)
Not yet. Currently the only choices for filesystems are HFS+ and UFS. I would love to have a journaling file system. Great thing about Mac OS X is the open source project, Darwin. So even if Apple doesn't add a journaling FS some open source hacker can!
Now if I can only get X Windows w/ GNOME running smoothly on my G4/Dual 500, I would be in OS paradise!!!
I have been using Linux on Macs going back to Apple's Mklinux DR2 distro to maximize my old Macs. Unlike my x86 boxes, when my Macs get long in the tooth, I can't bear to throw them away or sell them. I can't tell you why but I just can't part with them. That's the beauty of Linux and Darwin. Once they are no longer useful for my desktop work, they are backed up, reformatted, LinuxPPC installed (sometimes Darwin) and stuffed into my server closet until they blow their motherboards (which hasn't happened). The 604e chipped PowerMacs make great e-mail and web servers for a small to medium sized business. I can't wait to try out Yellow Dog's latest distro. I have had such great results with the LinuxPPC folks. These guys are supposed to be top notch PPC folks.
On a side note, I finally tried out Mandrake 8.1 x86. That is an AWESOME graphical install!!! Almost as nice as installing Mac OS X.
Sounds like someone needs to whacked by the clue-by-four
Probably the same reasons that many of us stay away from anything from Apple: It's overpriced, and you are locked in to Apple forever.
You are locked into Apple forever? Does Steve Jobs have a gun pointed at your puny little brain?
On my PowerMac G4/Dual 500 I can run Mac OS 9, Mac OS X, Windows 95, Windows NT, BeOS, Linux PPC and Linux x86 -- makes you wonder if Macs suck and it can run Linux x86, the quality of Linux x86 must really suck. So I guess I am not "locked" into Apple.
If I get tired of owning a Mac (which ain't gonna happen), I can put it on eBay and recover more than 50% of my investment. You are not going to do that with a POS intel box -- no matter who assembles it. As for being overpriced, give me a break. Apple gives awesome deals. The quality and built-in hardware (quad-firewire, dual usb, AGP dual head monitor card, heavy duty power supply, etc) is amazing on a Mac. Most of the time to build a similar PC, you would be having to add on a ton of stuff to match the Mac that PC manufacturers don't normally equip.
That's the practical reason, but you can also choose to stay away from them for moral reasons. Apple lives and dies by the lawsuit
No, twit, Apple lives by its bottom line and its stockholders. This is the sort of gripe I would expect from someone with ZERO interest in capitalism (your Anti-American article link shows your true colors). Apple sues people for stealing their intellectual property just like an author of a GPL app would sue a commercial publisher for stealing their code. If you fail to protect your property in the US court system, you lose your rights to it. The suits your are discussing deal with "Trade Dress". By your thought process, Harley Davidson would not have the right to prevent other motorcycle makers from stealing the sound of their exhaust system. Which they do successfully when challenged. Are you anti-HOG as well?
Or you could dislike them for how they stabbed the clone manufacturers in the back.
Thank God!!! I owned a Mac clone from PowerComputing. The worst POS computer I ever bought in my life. Killing the clones boosted the quality of the Macintosh. Buying a Mac is buying quality. When Jobs killed the clones, he saved Mac OS from running on sub par quality hardware like most x86 machines.
Or you could dislike them for flat-out lies in their advertising ("twice as fast").
Apple has demonstrated at MacWorld this fact time and time again. If you want to stick your fingers in your ears and scream "Na-na-na" at the top of your lungs, fine.
For fun, try to render and burn a movie to a DVD in real time with your PC. Oh, wait, you can't. Only Macs have that capability.
Ironically, Apple now actually makes a product that I'm semi-interested in, namely OS/X. But I will never, ever EVER give Apple any money. I'm hoping that someone will make an OS/X clone.
It's OS X not OS/X -- this is Apple not IBM. I am more than happy for you to stay away from Macintosh and even happier that there will never be an OS X clone. When I buy a computer I want quality. Apple can only assure that by building the product itself. The clone fiasco proved that. So, by all means, keep your head in the sand. Mac users will just point our fingers at you and laugh at your Mac bigotry.
Never mind, it appears that the article written around 1997 so I guess mentioning CSotD was a good reference. Darn! Just when you think you can knock M$, you end up laughing at Michael and Slashdot for promoting a five year old article as "News".
A little-known web site suddenly achieves popularity, perhaps with a link from Cool Site of the DaySM
Hello Microsoft. Welcome to the year 2001. Those type of sites died back in 1997. CSotD was the first and best, but the copy cats ruined the genre. I even had a web site selected back in 1995 for CSotD. Really ticked off my ISP (tyrell.net - gone now).
President Bush, sticking to his cautious sing-song monotone, fled to various bunkers and seemed to shrink throughout the day.
Thank god!
Katz are you trying to say President Bush is a coward and is not in control?
I am a fellow New Yorker living in lower Manhattan (SoHo). I understand the mayor of my city (hell of a guy) jumping in front of the camera every five minutes. Guiliani has not been specifically targeted by the terrorists that slammed into the World Trade Towers. Do you want President Bush to be tap dancing in the rubble before the cameras or meeting with his staff to coordinate a response to this unbelievable ACT OF WAR? Remember, Ari talked about specific tactical information the terrorists appeared to have that only President Bush's security detail should know. Scary. Because of former FBI Agent Robert Hanson(sp?), it has been reported those sort of details were passed to the Russians. Who else might have received them? I wish they would have stuck him in the mountain fortress NORAD maintains.
I, personally, believe the "cautious sing-song" monotone is one hell of a lip bitting act. I would not be surprised if a string of profanity that would make a sailor faint has erupted from his soul in private. Remember what he said about Clymer.
Sure President Bush isn't Bill Clinton (glad handing for the camera today) in the speaking department. But, I don't need anyone to feel my pain right now. I want a cold, calculated, well planned, painful, mass devastation of the terrorists, their homes, their families, their harboring country and any nation caught funding their operation. Rinse. Repeat.
I have 12 to 24 hits a day from unique IPs that are Code II/III probes (hundreds all combined). To compare this worm/virus/trojan to Code Red is just plain old marketing hype. Linux to me is a server OS (quickly ducks). I use Mac OS X as my desktop OS -- its a personal thing (Darwin + Quartz + Aqua + X > Linux + X). The last thing I would do is open an e-mail attachment on a server that doesn't receive or need e-mail (duh). Code Red didn't need e-mail, it just needed a newbie with Windows NT/2000 w/ an unpatched IIS installed to spread -- which most of my probes come from (at least what nmap tells me).
This really is a non-story. Anyone that has the skill to install Linux would know better than to execute this sort of attachment.
Offtopic: We need a Slashdot Virus Pool for the first distributed threat to Apple's Mac OS X. I am guessing May 16, 2006.
I would like a sensor at the local police station in my neighborhood that alerts citizens when the cops are anally raping black men with a toilet plunger. Then, maybe, I would be interested in installing this sensor in my car.
Yes! Why reward bad behavior in our society? It sends a incredibly bad message to children to reward bad behavior.
If I am even a second late with a loan payment for my education, I have some robotic bill collector tracking me down like the Terminator. I should have been smart in my youth. Stick that in your pipe and grep it!
OH SH%T! You got me. Good hack around the URL filter. Now please die.

The new is in. Apple introduces iPod, an MP3 player with a hard drive. Big freaking deal, I already have one, its called an Archos jukebox 6000.

You want a transparent terminal? How about a transparent video player?
Yea I do! Its call "Default Install" on Mac OS X 10.1. The best part, I have it today. I won't be waiting for it.
Amazing, how much time did you waste on this troll?
Okay, okay! You got me beat. I hadn't lost that much of my common sense!!! :)

Sure! try http://127.0.0.1/ ! Bet ya a dollar to a donut, it will run as fast as your machine!

Even worse, lied about. And I am not a Mac zealot, I am a DEC Alpha zealot.
