    Good points and insight, however, I must disagree with the following strongly:

    Furthermore judges can only interpret the law. While this can have large implications, it's not the same as if they can decree martial law is in effect or pass taxes to raise money for themselves. The founders of our democracy decided that benevolent dictators with limited power were good for the republic.

    Judges in this nation do not only interpret law, they create it out of whole cloth. A perfect example is forced busing. No legislature enacted this program, the federal courts did. There are many other examples such as requirements to feed and shelter illegal aliens and requirements to display public documents in thousands of languages outside of English (de facto national language of the US). That is why I feel they need to be monitored and more reactive to public will. If they are going to be making laws when they have no Constitutional right too, they need more oversight by the public.

Who the heck knows what they are doing and how it affects our freedom. Are we to trust these people with our liberty when they feel they are above the standards of ordinary Federal employees? At least with the other two branches of government, citizens have the ability to directly remove the corrupt. Its almost impossible to remove a seated Federal judge.

This was the first time I tried out one of these "Parasitic Grids". I was quite impressed. Sitting out on the grass (ignoring the guys selling grass), I was surfing Slashdot, downloading updates to Fink and chattin' with my friends on IRC. I was quite impressed with the speed of my connection (about 36kps) and my ability to roam from spot to spot in the grass in order to hear the guy playing violin better. Being able to take my computer into the great outdoors, tuning into a free wireless network and getting work/fun done to me has to be one of the best advancements in computers yet. Now the computer does not dictate the environment it works in, I do.

    On a side note, any coffee shop that wants to kick Starbuck's ass ought to buy a cheap DSL line/Cable modem and hang a 802.11b base station and give away free bandwidth for the cost of a $4.95 mocha carmel frappa latte skim half-caf double-decaf cappachino.

  13. Zero Tolerance For Government on Florida Surveillance Cameras Claim a Victim · · Score: 5, Insightful
    I think its about time for US Citizens to have "Zero Tolerance" for our Government. I am so freaking tired of my Government having "Zero Tolerance" for me. So often we are having our rights trampled on in the name of "Safety" so some Governmental Official can brag at the next election that "They Care". These cameras are a perfect example of this. We, as citizens, cannot be trusted by leaders.

    Here, we are seeing Government going beyond its Constitutional role to harass an innocent man. It really bothers me to see so many people in this forum say, "So What?". The "What" is that a person should not have to fear that the Government will randomly pick you out of the crowd and threaten you! Questioning is a form of Governmental threat because you know if you don't get the answers right or look the wrong way, you go to jail until you deplete your bank account on a lawyer -- plus as a bonus, when you are found innocent, you don't get reimbursed for your expenses.

    If anything in the US, the cameras should not be trained on private citizens but on public officials. They are the real criminals. I would love to have the bright light of sunshine pound down on each and every politician -- focusing in on the actions they commit during their waking hours.

    Frankly, as far as I am concerned, Uncle Sam should go have marital relations with himself. Its so sad to see the "Freest Country on the Planet" resort to this Fascist behavior. Even worst are the bleating sheep that think these cameras are a "Good Thing®".

    Giving Your Number To Others

    If a business or other enterprise asks you for your Social Security number, you can refuse to give it to them. However, that may mean doing without the purchase or service for which your number was requested. For example, utility companies and other services ask for your Social Security number, but do not need it; they can do a credit check or identify their customers by alternative means.

    Giving your number is voluntary even when you are asked for the number directly. If requested, you should ask:

    why your number is needed;

    how your number will be used;

    what happens if you refuse; and

    what law requires you to give your number.

    The answers to these questions can help you decide if you want to give your Social Security number. The decision is yours.

    Our primary message is this--be careful with your Social Security number and your card to prevent their misuse.

    If you think someone is misusing your number, ask us for the leaflet, When Someone Misuses Your Number (Publication No. 05-10064).

    Originally your SS # was never supposed to be given out to anyone! But big business beat up big brother and started using it to profile each and every American. In fact, the business community forced the Government to require *all* citizens to have a SS #. So now from the second you pop out of your mother's private parts, you have to be registered with the SSA.

    I personally think the ending to "Fight Club" would solve this problem once and for all.
