I don't agree. For all that I've no use for people who don't realize that, unlike many recent ventures, the US fought WWII for very good reasons, and probably saved millions of lives by doing so

Since you seem a bit confused about the reason the United States of America joined the war effort let me educate you. The USA practised an isolationist policy and refused to join World War II to defeat Germany and its allies until Japan carried out an attack on Pearl Harbor. The entire attack would not have happened except for a delay by some US political figure whose name I forget at the moment to see the Japanese Ambassador. When the Japanese Ambassador and his aid heard of the attack from the person they were meeting they were gravely disappointed. There is a fact-based movie about the events leading up to the attack on Pearl Harbor; not the crap movie made of recent vintage. You really ought to read a few non-fiction books about World War II before posting on the subject.

See the movie Tora! Tora! Tora! It portrays the Americans as being dumb beyond reason, but shows that the talks with the Japanese Ambassador were a sham. I've heard that the attack on Pearl Harbor was to buy Japan more time to invade the Philippines before the US got involved.

Oh, look, explosions and lens flares 'n stuff!

I'm conflicted on Man of Steel. I walked out of the theater thinking it was a Nolan film which happened to include Superman. OTOH, I liked showing more of Krypton. OTOH, sending a ray to add mass wouldn't create localized increased gravitation. And I can't swallow that Louis discovered Superman's identity while the entire US government was stumped. And the classic Superman would have led Zod and gang to a place where they could fight without putting so many people in harm's way.

Yes, servers often earn more in tips than actual wage. That doesn't change the fact that servers used to be paid more in past generations. My brother earned minimum wage + tips in the 1980s, but his daughter currently earns $2.75 / hour + tips. Quoting from Wikipedia :

The Fair Labor Standards Act defines tippable employees as individuals who customarily and regularly receive tips of $30 or more per month. Employers may not allocate tips to themselves. Federal law permits employers to include tip wage towards satisfying the difference between employees' hourly wage and minimum wage.

Because the social norm is 15-20%, employers can pay servers a lower wage and still not run amok of minimum wage laws.

Re-read my comment, this time leaving your agenda at the door. Your agenda is tainting your understanding of my words. If an action can reasonably be expected to put others at undue risk, it deserves to be considered. It's all about weighing the risk of others against the benefit of the one. No knee-jerk reactions. Smoking tobacco is still legal - but it's regulated by an age limit and many states prohibit smoking in public spaces because of the adverse effects of second-hand smoke. E-cigarettes still provide the nicotine but don't output the fumes. Public intoxication (whether from alcohol or other drugs) should be illegal. Cooking meth in a residential area should continue to be illegal. Smoking pot in your own home where others won't be forced to inhale the fumes, that's harder to justify government involvement.

I tend to agree up to a point. If use of a substance affects others, then it should be regulated (or outright banned). Alcohol, in moderation, rarely affects others. However, once an intoxicated individual gets behind the wheel of a car the public is at risk. Smoking tobacco creates second-hand smoke, so it is regulated. Drugs which cause hallucinations put others at risk. Your rights end where they infringe on my rights, my safety, or those I care for.
