Since pretty much every phone (and most other electronics) are manufactured in China I really don't understand the logic here. They make things for Apple, Google, Cisco, Dell, Microsoft, ad nauseum. They ARE the manufacturer so ZTE and Huawei don't even need to ask or know about it at all. I'm sure there are other companies like Foxconn too that make just about everything and slap other brand's labels on them.
That case was stupid, but I feel compelled to remind everyone that weev is a neo-nazi piece of shit who helps run the dailystormer garbage-site. That doesn't make the conviction anymore deserving or stupid but I just wouldn't want anyone to feel too sorry for that waste of oxygen...
I preferred the layout of Google+ as well. Responsive design and not filled with useless white space. But nobody used it so there was no point. Even though everyone I know has an Android phone and thus as a Google/G+ account they just never used G+ for anything. It has nothing to do with technical capabilities or features. If everyone doesn't move en-mass to a new platform there just simply won't be the momentum to keep it going.
I'm just surprised this was invented before they could create some kind of barrier that would prevent small children from reaching the pool. It could even have a function where part of the barrier would separate and allow people through. That function could even be operated by a mechanism that is high enough off the ground that small children couldn't reach it.
You know, like a fence... with a gate. Which is required by law around all pools in Australia. But I know, regulations are bad.... mkay?
Yes hard prison time for non violent offenders seeking a profit. Clearly you are right here/snark
Do you think fraud should not be a crime? I mean this case all sounds a bit stupid because Oracle's business model has always been ruthless and focused on selling consultation services after the customer pays through the nose for the licenses. Which is never nice. (I don't like Oracle personally and would never want to use their products. Because of price and because I usually just don't like the software either.)
But did the Telerix's clients now have to go spend more money to get legitimate licenses for their servers? After paying a bunch of money to this terrible firm engaged in illegal practices. Oracle sucks but they may not be the only victim here.
So not only is global warming not real but it'll be super duper awesome when it happens?
Could we just lower pollution and clean up the environment because it's the right thing to do? If we happen to solve global warming (should it exist [it exists.]) then that will just be icing on the nice clean cake that won't give everyone lung cancer.
I cannot fathom the mind of someone who thinks like a Captain Planet villain.
I wasn't sure if it would actually be good enough for FPS games but when I got mine I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. There is the occasional game where I can't quite get a good mapping and I would prefer an old-school controller but it has entirely replaced the keyboard & mouse for me. From Civilization to Fallout the steam controller works great.
They're only doing their job if you have a reason to use them. If you spend your time avoiding visiting unsavoury websites and have the knowledge not to downloading/open questionable files, then they're just costing you space on your PC (or in your wallet).
We get it uber is cooler and easier or some other bullshit, ok fine, you prefer it but hey TAXIS STILL EXIST?
WTF
THIS! So much this!
Uber and Lyft are just Taxi companies anyway. They just ignore any regulations or laws put in place. They aren't "ride-sharing" at all. This isn't Joe Blow going to the Whole Foods and checking if anybody nearby needs a ride too. These are full-time (or part-time) drivers doing this as a JOB. Calling it "ride-sharing" is disingenuous at best and probably just a way for these horrible companies to try to get around the regulations put in place to make the taxi industry SAFE FOR RIDERS AND DRIVERS.
They treat their employees like crap and do everything they can to deny them benefits and wages.
They don't care about the riders because they ignore safety regulations.
They aren't "sticking it to the man" or "disrupting the industry." They're abusing laws and regulations to make as much money as possible by being HORRIBLE COMPANIES TO THEIR CUSTOMERS AND EMPLOYEES.
I do not understand why people love these companies so much.
Division by zero doesn't equal zero. It equals infinity. If anything I want to get a NULL or NaN returned. Division by zero is an exceptional case and it should be treated as such. (By throwing an exception!)
Should we also make pi equal to 3 so it's easier to find the area of a circle?
Actually, Microsoft does have a next-gen file system now with Server 2012. It may not be on par with Btrfs or Zfs, yet, and it is really only meant for a file server (it requires multiple disks for some features). But at least they're making movement in the right direction.
His opinion is dangerous. ANY argument based on the concept "it's good for the whole of society for this individual to cede his rights" is just plain evil. If that end justifies the means, then you are a short way away from handing the authorities a police state.
this. very much this.
If it is in society's best interest that police have no limits to their power so that they can catch EVERYONE then why burden them with any rules at all?
You want someone to release an Operating System(inarguably a very large project with thousands of lines of code) that has no security flaws in it whatsoever? That's impossible.
Granted they could test & test & test for years & years and probably(and that's a big probably) do this. But by the time they released it it would be so outdated that it would be worthless(and you invariably would complain about how it didn't do all the stuff you wanted).
The process is to release a mostly secure system, then when problems arise you fix them. It seems to work pretty well, though it does put some of the burden on the user(OH NO!! NOT THAT!;P) to apply said patches and updates.
Windows actually has done a nice job of this. Windows Update is a pretty good system. Granted it has it's flaws, but it's still very well done in my opinion.
I'm not a big Microsoft supporter, i certainly disagree with some of their choices, and I plan on building a linux server quite soon, but I just couldn't help responding to your post. I mean, your demands are unreasonable, even linux isn't released with NO SECURITY FLAWS, otherwise it wouldn't need patches. And MacOS X also has it's vulnerabilities. There is no such thing as a "PERFECTLY SECURE PROGRAM."
Unless you count the abacus...
Fuck you, and use a rusty pitchfork.
Anyways, your post was completely off topic as well as completely uninformative and it served absolutely no purpose but to make you look like a moron. I wouldn't be surprised if you use Windows ME because your mom won't let you change the operating system. If you do happen to be an adult then I would recommend going outside and interacting with people in an environment where there is more consequences to your actions than getting modded down. This may help you to learn how to carry on insightfull and interesting conversations with people(in real life and online) and also things you probably shouldn't do.
It seems to me that alot of you are confused. I never thought that they were going to code the entirety of Longhorn in.NET. I thought.NET was going to be alot more integrated than it is now. I really don't know where you got this crazy idea from...
Granted I've been away from the programming world for a little while now, and I've never used.NET. But it seems logical that they would reuse the code they had before(that isn't in.NET) and write new code(some of it in.NET[where applicable] and some not). But that Longhorn would incorporate.NET in a much more fundamental way than ever before. It seemed MS was saying that they were going to make.NET THE programming language(s) for Longhorn. That it would be practically built in(kind of what an earlier poster said they were trying to do with OLE). They weren't going to code Win95/98 like that, but they were going to make it THE method to use when making windows programs.
Well, since the parent post here made the inference between the article and the new bill that granted the military $82 billion that is probably why people were talking about the connection. It was simply an idea to think about. Not something being touted as fact. If some chose to believe it and post accordingly, so be it. If you disagree you should mention that, rather than post about they "typical/. reader." Ohhhh aren't you so cool. You know exactly what the "typical/. reader" is like. I'm sure you've done in-depth scientific studies into the nature of the people who post on this site. If you find the community to be so lacking, why don't you go elsewhere? Or simply not read the post?...

Those lobbyists, etc don't come cheap. You don't spend that much on something just to do nothing with it.

Also, sometimes they break.
This completely ignores the fact that sometimes (often?) advertising networks are used to spread viruses on completely legit sites. Or those sites could be exploited themselves and start spreading malware.
Just because you only check your email and read the news doesn't make you completely safe. Safer, sure. But not completely safe.
AirBnB included.
Are young people so fucking cool and hip that calling a fucking taxi is seen as passé? Seriously?

It reminds me of this old Tom Tomorrow comic from 1994 that Bruce Schneier shared not too long ago: https://lh3.ggpht.com/-g8kBDvnw7I8/UiyosmPpJfI/AAAAAAAAXK8/zaBsi9PU0rg/s1600/tom1994_1.JPG
