I just got an Inspiron 1525N *specifically* for that purpose. It came with the 32-bit version of Ubuntu 7.10. I upgraded to Kubunu 8.04 x86_64, and it detected all the hardware without a hitch. I don't even have to use proprietary drivers for the video or wireless. I was able to surf wirelessly and play OpenGL games while it was installing from the live cd.
