  1. Yes, buy them all! on Microsoft Says Live Intact, No Interest in Take Two · · Score: 0, Flamebait

MS has done pretty damn good with the Xbox, I have to admit. And game exclusivity is king. The fact that so many publishers are going cross-platform isn't a political shift, it's a result of shifting market-share leaders. Meaning no longer just Sony, for example.

So this is the middle step in the Console Wars, before a new leader is established. And when that happens, it will cemented by more exclusivity. And how does that happen? Exclusive titles! And that means buy outright or bribe the hell out of publishers. And don't lie and try to say that (the exclusive) GTA hasn't done miracles for the PS2...don't you do it!

So: yes, buy(1) and keep(2) and refine(3) and make magic(4) out of titles and march to victory(5).

    1) no matter the cost...doesn't really matter anyway, long term.
    2) exclusive! gets folks buying consoles. Or at least port a really shitty version...
    3) Throw out the rot and garbage, maybe to EA, like somebody suggested.
    4) ala Bungie. Give them the resources, let them make magic. Never break this rule! (like Sony, one division crippling the other's products)
    5) Ah yes, but for how many (next)gen's, broken down to fiscal quarters? Then you are the fat bloated worthless bastard who forgets how to make money. Repeat as needed.

In fact, I say buy them just to keep from Sony, give ported crap versions (out of necessity)to Nintendo. Why do I hate Sony? Eh, I finally got off the fence to get away from Sony's bullshit. Right now MS's is smelling more like decaying broccoli.

  2. Re:Quick thoughts... on New Version of Xbox 360 Looking More Likely · · Score: 1

I bought mines from Costco right as the shortages ended, early 2006, and it's never given me any issues...or more specifically my son who plays Halo2 and now Gears of War like it's a damn career. For the record, it's horizontal and on a shelf under the TV.

So there's another useless anecdote. And none of my boy's buddies had any issues either. Checkmate!

  3. Burn out on Video Racing Games May Spur Risky Driving · · Score: 1

It's true, after hours of playing Burn Out, hopping in the car for for a trip to the store have me playing with visions of swinging over into oncoming traffic and going big. And ironically, I was in a serious accident, totalled the car, but walked away from it without a scratch, just shaking the glass out of my hair and clothes. (miracle of modern engineering) So I have this vague notion that it might not be so suicidal.

Of course it's all insane. But I can't deny the thoughts haven't happened. GTA though? Naw, never went driving afterward and though, oooh, lets go kill hookers!

OT, I'm not into the mission so much as just cruising around, running from cops a little(!) and bumping the radio. That's the best part of those games, being able to free-wheel around for a bit...the hell with the silly missions.

  5. Re:Lets See How Long This Lasts on Xbox Live Cracks 6 Million, Windows Cost Revealed · · Score: 1

Why can't the 360 support a keyboard and mouse again? They have USB and wireless support in the hardware, and there might be some compatibility issues, but get the right one (official kit, overpriced but quality) and bam, there is no difference! Sales through the roof.

Sure games would have to support m&k options, but wtf why don't they? RTS games *need* keyboards, among other genres. Key binding, quick text chats...it's a goddamn travesty that these next-gen boxes are joystick only. (reason enough to hack the hell out of them)

So, in conclusion: all the hardware is there, just need some software updates to make it happen and PC gaming is taking another ass-kicking.

(and we know now just how sneakily/transparently MS updates "their" 360's...through Live or through playing new games if offline?!? Spooky...)

You have a wise-ass answer and you ought to know it. A pessimistic assumption on your part and the schmuck attitude gave them the answer they needed. You basically said that you were unequipped to handle a diverse student population.

But I get the idea that you didn't get the job because they didn't like you.

Of course, it is, like most interview questions, a silly question. I hate all those types of questions. But you have to know how to play to win, right?

Just FYI: I bought a few XPS M1210 laptops. They have a metal lid and base. I never got shocked, but I did get feedback, a steady AC hum, if I was wearing any kind of headset/headphones and touch any of the metal, even if the headset was plugged into something else. Or I took the headset jack and touched the laptop's metal case with it.

And yes, it had a two-prong charger. And yes, I asked support about it and they were clueless. And yes, I sent them all back, but for other reasons.

  8. Surgeon takes big risk, gets big profit. on Woman Wins Right to Criticize Surgeon on Website · · Score: 1

Nobody has pointed out yet the economics?

The surgeon is playing the game: he took her money and accepted the risk to turn a profit. His clients are of a particular type, with certain needs, expectations. The type that get elective surgery and then sue if they don't like the results. If he was doing work for the poor in Venezuela correcting deformities then his chances at getting sued over bullshit is zero. But he is playing craps with upper class hags and so he takes his chances. I don't feel sorry for either of them, I hope they both get what they want, and what they deserve.

Personally, his job sucks, and I'm surprised it's even viable. If he did do "very subtle" changes, she would have paid all that money for nothing? She would have felt cheated, not being able to tell a difference. So he was under pressure to do something! (fast forward to Michael Jackson)

So many things can and do go wrong with this stuff, and patient's expectations and surgeon's promises are always unrealistic. Don't tell me about how advanced it is, it's not far from a goddamn auto mechanic. It's almost like you should be lucky to come out alive after surgery, especially elective.

  9. I thought you meant bored of gaming... on Have You Hit a Gaming Wall? · · Score: 4, Interesting

Because I hit that wall a while ago, where the games were static and similar and uninteresting. Another WWII shooter, yay. How many incredibly stupid AI opponents can keep you entertained? Just a handful, as that's all that will ever be on screen at the same time. Increase the difficulty, and you just get weaker, the computer doesn't get better. Halo 2 came out and was such a massive disappointment I stopped until these so-called next-gen games came out and AI is still stupid.

That leaves me with online play, and I can only run around the same little levels for so long playing tag with foul-mouthed, homo-phobic and racist 13 year-olds for so long. And don't get me started on the modders, which is fancy for little cheating ass bitches.

Yeah, I know, there are better games out there, and better ways to team up online, and I'm just being grumpy. I'm getting a little old, I guess, but why aren't any of these games drawing me in, keeping me awake all night and forgetting to eat anymore? I can't have changed that much over the past few console/pc generations.

And so I wait for the shooter where the goddamn bodies stay there, and might even stack up and block the doorway if I kill enough of them. Or the non-botched Sim City game. How about a sports game that doesn't require the same investment as a certification to be mediocre? I liked the first person view in Madden, nice gimmick. How about being able to be a lineman or tight-end, let another human, Live or local, or even computer do the passing? So few co-op games, even fewer good ones. I practically raised my boy doing co-op in Halo 1, waited in line for Halo 2, but now unless Bungie publicly apologizes, I might not even rent Halo 3.

(and more bitching, whining and moaning, c'mon, you old schoolers know what I'm talking about!)

  11. It's all about access. on Cingular's Free Music · · Score: 1

A $15/month fee on a cell phone bill is pretty steep. Most people have a $30-60 monthly bill and this would be a big increase to them. So I'm thinking this price will fall or the service will fail.

But what can you do once you (purchase) and download the song? Can you move it to another phone, when you upgrade or get a replacement? What is the storage capability of the phones that can justify the number of downloads that would justify the monthly cost? Offload to iPod or mp3 player, etc?

I'll buy into these services when they give me choices of format/quality and lifetime license to redownload the same media that I paid for.

Otherwise, why not buy the cd so I can "own" it forever? And/or then "steal" it off the net to save me the trouble of ripping it myself?

These fools still don't get it...and I'm not necessarily talking about the companies.
