The planet on which we live has existed for millions of years in a state of balance. When one species becomes too dominant in a region, that species inevitably suffers and dies off due to lack of food, water or comfort.
Human instinct naturally drives us to maintain control of our environment, so as to maintain the supply of food, water and comfort - usually to the detriment of other species.
Given mankind's ability to quell nature and stifle natural selection, we are dramatically affecting the balance and are most likely heading towards extended periods with little food, water or comfort. It is a question of how long before the symptoms become unbearable. One hundred years? More? Less? With the attitude that humans are the only important species on Earth, it will probably be much sooner.
Yeah? Well your mom's so dumb, it takes her a week to watch 60 minutes!

Hand-Made Vacuum Tubes
·
· Score: 5, Informative
The purpose of using vacuum tubes in a guitar amp is for the overdrive characteristics. When overdriven, solid state amplification circuitry clips the waveform to the voltage rails, resulting in a harsh sounding distortion due to the dissonant overtones.
A tube amp driven to distortion compresses the waveform rather than hard clipping. This results in a waveform rich in harmonic overtones - the classic distorted guitar sound.
Any person who is not tone deaf can tell the difference between solid state distortion and tube distortion. Please don't compare the basic principles of rock guitar with overpriced audiophile folly.
Very cool indeed. Now where can we go with screen tech? Water vapour? Smoke screen? How about the in between thumb/forefinger thing I've seen in some futuristic shows? Instant on with a hand gesture.
Hmm, not always... reminds me of a story. A truck driver underestimated the height of his trailer and promptly got stuck under a bridge. As a huge traffic jam swelled up behind, the truck driver and sheriff walked around the truck, rubbing their chins. The driver tried reversing, but got only tyre spin and fould smelling smoke. It was really stuck.
A motorist walked up and introduced himself as; "John Cooper, I helped design this bridge, maybe I can help".
Much walking around, chin rubbing and head scratching ensued, amidst the spiraling honking and abuse.
"I think we're going to have to bring in hydraulic lifts and raise the bridge slightly" Said John Cooper.
"Ungh, my boss ain't gonna like that" Said the truck driver.
Just then, a kid, riding by on his bike stopped, dismounted, took of his cap (this was before compulsory bicycle helmets), looked up and down and said...
...as effective as a one legged man in a butt-kicking contest
There's a one legged guy in the town where I live, he lost his leg in a motorcycle accident. He's a nice guy, friendly and all. I've seen him kick a piñata to pieces with a single roundhouse kick. He landed awkwardly, but it had the desired result.
The moral is: never underestimate the one-legged guy!
They would only be referring to Microsoft's attempts to emulate OS X look 'n' feel, Apple Aqua / MS Aero etc. OS X is a BSD based system with a proprietary UI, whereas Vista is based on Microsoft's NT kernel.
Lucky us in Australia, I picked up GHIII for Wii two weeks ago, introductory special at BigW (== oz walmart?), for AUD$98 (about US$85), rrp AUD$159.95. "Have fun" said the checkout lady. I did.
Here in Australia, one of the major commercial stations used this song as their station promo for... what seemed like an eternity. I don't really care if I never hear it again!
In healthy athletes, a low standing heart rate is indicative of a healthy and efficient cardiovascular system. No shortage of oxygen to the brain there.
Valid point. I've driven in U.S.A and Germany, and I live in Australia. I also happen to commute 75 klm of one of the most deadly road in Australia every day. Every few weeks I drive past the aftermath of an accident. You can usually tell the fatal ones...
I guess I'm trying to say that whilst I agree that there are some conditions where high speed can be less risky, the expoits of this Roy guy are plain stupid - mixing extreme speed with commuter traffic is selfish and unfair to all road users.
But this smacktard needed to constantly maintain an outrageously high average speed to break the record. That puts him amongst the bleach blond soccer mums whilst still exceeding the limit by 30 - 40 mph.
That's a valid point, and I wish you had logged in so more people would see it. In this case, I firmly believe that luck has been the main factor. Our time-trialling fast car dude here has no say in what other road users are going to do.
Statistically there are a lot more soccer mums on the road. Should they be driving 2 ton hulks? I personally don't think so. I diverge.
This guy might be aware that he's doing something dangerous, and he might try to prepare for any outcome. He even accepts that there are unknown elements and resigned once the goal became unrealistic. Okay. Good. But these factors do not make it any safer or less selfish - you said it yourself - what about the soccer mum? The roads and freeways are totally unpredictable. Soccer mum has as much right to use the freeways as does any licensed driver. This guy's experience and preparation DOES NOT GIVE HIM THE RIGHT to put innocent lives at risk.
Life can be dangerous. As a surfer, former bicycle courier, skater and road racing cyclist, believe me, I know (check my id). But I would never purposefully risk anyone else's life. I believe this guy's antics are selfish and stupid.

Maybe, but at least I'm not a fucked up piece of shit AC

Wow. Lucky UK. Still, I guess we need to protect all of those SUV's from flying cyclist heads. "Won't someone please think of the SUV's??"

"Why don't you let some air out of the tyres?"

Informative?? Well, I like 'em so BACK OFF.
Thanks, and good luck with the project Anita ;)
You forgot exercise. Folks back then were a lot less sedentary.
I hate fruit
Have you ever tried mango?

The use of paragraphs makes a long story much easier to read.
If you don't suck, you can't breath, and if you can't breath, you die! Perhaps sucking ain't all that bad...
How would you know?
Good idea. Just, for the love of god, stay off their lawn.
