Is it just me... or does this image on that site just look like a scan of 1 person's business card with the name wiped in photoshop or something.
Then again mabey it's just me....
I think that by the time they get the time capsule... no one will have a CD drvie to read the CD anymore.
Besides, even if they did have CD-ROM drives that could read it, How do we know that by then all of our languages won't be dead (I'm talkin deader than latin even) and then they wouldn't be able to read it. After all... Look at the egypitans who in the old kingdom (about 5000 BC) used hieroglyphics and god only knows what they spoke. And about 7800 years later, decrypting the Rosetta Stone was one of the greatest feats ever.. I think that after 50,000 years nothing the equivelent of the Rosetta Stone will exist anymore and it will just be a bunch of gibberish written on some kinda frisbee thingy.
Well, at least Dre decided to request that member's files simply be blocked, rather than the users being banned in a Nazi fashion...
I think Dre understands the people and the potential that technology has, as opposed to Metalica and Lars' "600000000 sheets of paper scheme". Forget Metalica, I'm going out to buy the new Dre album. 'Cause he ain't actin like a @#$%% like metalica
if there are customizable voice commands such as "shut ther f#$% up" could be programmed to mute the system... i'll take two. (one for each car of course.)
however, i think that unless there is a customizable feature.. it isn't worth my 600$...
Well... after I sign on the dotted line and go work for them... I'll obviously know the systems architecture and other vital information.
From here, just leave it up to the imagination of me pulling off the world's biggest hack and selling all the information to another country (can you say China?)
So all in all I think its great... they pay for my college so dad stuffs my pockets, then I go off, get their vital info, and let China stuff my pockets. CASE CLOSED!!
All the oil-eating, radioactive-eating, etc bacteria are way overrated. The thing about them is that they all devour so little of the target substance, that they don't help nature *that* much. In the case of exxon valdeze, where the oil-eating bacteria were used, it is predicted that they will only speed up the clean-up process of the spill by a few days, and that nature would have done it just as effectively by itself.
I've heard a lot about this in the past year or so, and I don't think that digital movies will really ever make it. One thing is that there is a large risk of theft with the movies stored in digital form. It would ba a lot easier to obtain an "advanced copy" by simply dupin the drive with the film on it.
Second, some people have invented a method of filming where you remove the old analog sound strip off the side of the film and replace it with each individual frame being longer. For ease of speech i will call this "wide standard" (by no means is it the official name though). I've heard that this method makes for no film scratched, bubbles, etc... and there is no piracy risk there. Finially, if you are making a new theatre, the least expensive of these three (standard, digital, and wide standard) is the wide standard, with digital projectors being by far the most expensive
Quite franly, I think that if we are gonna see any new technology in the theaters, it will be the afforementioned wide standard.
Does this remind anyone else of the episode of the Simpsons where Homer tries to start a computer company (the one where he sticks his pencils in butter and has to write lots of "tasty memos)?? Cause later in the episode Bill Gates walks in and has 2 goons just trash the place... Could it be that The Simpsons' writers saw this coming (the forcing smaller companies to give in) and that they knew about this all before we did..??
I'm sorry to dissappoint all you/.ers, but there is really no chance the penguin is gonna be named Xut or tux or anything of that sort. I suppose that you could blame it on some of us "computer people" over here (we put Tux on a few pages... "they" didn't like that too much). He's still on the search page though.. http://planetary.org/search/ Anyway, I'll keep you guys informed and let you know as soon as the name is chosen
These things sound cool... I wonderif these will ever become so popular that we're all walkin around with these like they do on Star Trek, instead of carryin arond reems of paper at a time.

I got the ultimate gift idea... One of those Transmeta Crusoe's to see if they really live up to all the hype...
