Isn't it interesting that when a company such as Palm with 40+ percent of the market alone and Psion with about 10-13 percent of the market team up, nobody makes any noise about them practically OWNING the market?
Let's be a tad realistic here: have you people tried actually using a WinCE device lately?? They SUCK compared to any PALM device.
Doesn't this count, by US laws, as a monopoly? Remember how they made laws that said that Ma Bell couldn't have more than 40-some-odd percent of the market? What gives?
I seem to read into this a distinct possibility for the haves to widen the gap between themselves and the have-nots.
Think about it: the haves already send their children to better school which then gives them better educations-> better jobs-> better lifestyles. The rich will be the first and only (for a long, long time) to be able to afford pre-birth genetic recontruction. They choose to have children that are better, faster, smarter, and stronger. They literally evolve past us 'normal' humans because they have the means and we do not.
Survival not of the fittest.. but of the richest.
Ethics will play less and less into real life as economics takes over.
My question is simple: why not allow the customer to choose from a list of colors.. a LONG list. Not everybody that doesn't want beige wants some prissy pastel color.
I want BLACK. Charcoal gray. Matte finish dark blue. What about my needs?
Actually, i really hope that they avoid the upgrade path. Personally, i have no problem with fiddling with the guts of my machine, but i know many, many people that are afraid to even *unscrew* the cover.. much less swap a cpu or add some memory.
The appeal of a gaming system is it's simplicity. You plug in, put in, and turn on. That's it.
Another issue is this: imagine you go to the store and see a really cool game the you just *HAVE* to have. Then you read on the box: "Must have blah blah blah requirements. Please fork over much mula to play our dumb game."
Please don't tell me that you would buy into this upgrade upgrade upgrade mantra.
I would rather buy a new system every 3-4 years then for over 60-120 bucks every 12-24 months just so i can keep up with the latest developement in games.
"That's just how evolution works; large mutations are risky [clip!]"
The iMac was a big risk, which just happened to be a real money-maker. The question is whether you could classify it as a big mutation since apple has been making all-in-one PC's since the beginning of time (ok, maybe the SECOND day..hehe).
While USB is a nice technology (don't quote me on that..) the data transfer rates are very low, 1.2 mbps if i remember correcly, which is WAY too low for hardrives or anything other than backup and storage of data.

If you only show up as a diffuse shadow.. what purpose does this have in identifying people? I mean, what good is a photo of an ambiguous shadow in a court of law?
That has got to be the silliest thing that i have ever heard argued in my entire life. It's so akin to:
"Gosh, i can't see past the horizon.. so the earth must end there."
That it makes me want to laugh.
There are NINE planets in out solar system. Somewhere around 5000 stars visible to the naked eye (and literally countless others that we use sensitive instruments to detect). I'm simply stating the obvious fact that there has to be at least some planets orbiting some of those stars out there. --
I don't understand why people make such a fuss about finding planets. Sure it's nice to have scientific hard evidence that they are there.. but was there ever any real doubt as to the existance of planets outside our solar system?
I mean, come on people! Apply a little logic here: it's a BIG UNIVERSE.. there *has* to be more out there than what we have in our little SS.

A car is used by *choice*. If you become fat and unweildy because you can't figure out that it's OK to walk somewhere.. that's your problem.
While i must agree that the internet has lead to some disagreeable behavior, as a whole it has also allowed many people that would otherwise be lonely and outcast to put in their lot with everyone else and learn what it is to become part of a community. What you are talking about is the immature behavior of the minority (flaming, et al).

I would also like to add this additional thought:
How many of you that live in you apartment actually know the person that lives next door..down the hall. I am willing to bet my shorts that 75% of you do not.
Imagine how much easier it would be to interact with virtual neighbors than with real, whiny ones.

An argument that has been rolling around in my circle recently has been the future of computers and the extent that they will affect our lives. I, being the optimist that i am, am hoping that they will continue to become more and more part of our everyday lives. Infiltrating our appliances, homes, and everything in between.
Now, i also am of the mindset that it would be beneficial in the end effect to have large supercomputers running each and every apartment building, and in each home having dummy terminals. Now, is this a viable alternative to the PC, or is noone willing to take the chance that some privacy will be comprimised.
I like the idea. I'm sure that there are others out there that have the same view. Thoughts? Comments?
(This is not really THAT off-topic, IBM.. SUN, they build mainframes that would most likely be used as the servers for the dummy terminals. see?)
I may be utterly mistaken, but wasn't this discussed a while back about how WinCE was/not/ used in the DC because of delays in shipment to Sega? Each game is using it's own OS, and only a couple games actually use the WinCE OS.
I would really like to see a project like Reveal for windows. It's a nice thing to be able to change around alot of settings and alter bitmaps, but i really want to be able to hack out my own Window manager for my specific needs. Lonesmurf
Every week you hear some negative negative person predicting the doom and downfall of this great program that great company. Face it folks: something will not fall for the simple reason that you *JINX* it. Programs like Netscape will be around in one form or another for a long time to come for the simple reason that people WANT it to be. Lonesmurf
Oh for pete's sake. My dog used to go absolutely nuts when you turned on the VACUUM CLEANER.
Can you imagine what she would have done with a robot dog??

Ya, remember ACER computers? Now THOSE were consumer devices!
At least the G4 and new iMacs come in clear and Graphite. That looks pretty damned decent if you ask me.

In the experiment, they used a laser to heat the Methane to about 3600 degrees F. Does it get that hot in the atmosphere of either neptune or uranus?
I realise that pressure creates heat (by friction) but is it *that* much?

Apparently, it's using the PalmOS. So, yes, the applications *should* run.
But please, someone correct me if i am wrong.

I can think of many pros to buying one of these:
-Price
-Compatability
-Feature Set
What are some cons? Anybody?
