When I park somewhere to borrow Internet access, more often than not, the majority of WAPs are Linksys on channel 6. If it's a spot I might use again, sometimes I'll log in (l:admin p:password) and sort out the mess, putting some of the APs on 1 and 11.
I believe WAP manufacturers (the big three especially) have a responsibility to at least default each unit to a random channel (1, 6, or 11). Even better, have the WAP scan for and use the least cluttered channel on power-up.
Discounting the obvious exploits this system provides to (ab)users, how about Joe Sixpack using this system as it was intended... Google's complied record on Mr. Sixpack has just scored two very valuable data points: Not only his phone number, but the nature of his call.
No doubt the telemarketing industry would be very interested.
Look at it this way: Probability your slow-ass PC will find an alien? ~0%. Probability your CPU is sucking down its maximum rated wattage? ~100%.

Walmart already provides their employees with incentive to use eco-friendly transportation. By paying wages at or below minimum wage, employees are compelled to rely on second-hand bicycles, hitch-hiking or jogging to work. Better-off employees sometimes even have the luxury of using local bus service, if available.
Police must have their light bar and/or siren on in order to legally exceed the speed limit. "High-speed patrol" and "high-speed end-of-shift" aren't emergencies. It's speeding, which is a crime.
I haven't seen a fire engine "speeding" while not responing. Speeding in a large, $350k piece of city equipment for no reason would be reckless and unprofessional.

Alright, Einstein's blunder is no longer his "comsmological constant"...
His blunder has merely changed to the premature retraction of his "cosmological constant."

Mods, I didn't mean to hit so hard with the clue stick. Looking at this slew of logical counter-points, it seems I hit a nerve.
Excuse me while I report to the Ministry of Groupthink, lest I post any further opposing facts or opionions.

Has Intel now promised Dell that they won't suffer punitive pricing for selling non-Intel machines?
- Concerned familiy members confront you with stacks of empty jewel cases and electronics store receipts.
- Making promises to yourself you can't keep ("Just one last round...").
- Tendency to play alone; preference for single-player games over socially-accepted multi-player.
- Begging the cashier at Best Buy to front you a new title ("C'mon man I'll have the $49.95 by Friday, I swear!").

Hey, good idea!
How about self-sufficient governments in these cities? Tibet would be an ideal test site.

It sounds like you want a universal remote.
This site has a schematic for a universal remote that you can build yourself.
Most of the plates they clear away still have bits of food on them, so at least they're not starving to death.
