  1. Advertising on Australian Media 'Crooks' to Come in from the Cold · · Score: 2, Interesting

The bigger worry is for the TV channels who stand to lose the most from advertising revenues. More and more people record shows off television simply so they can watch it later to skip through the adverts. If advertisers stop paying premium rates for prime time television, then there is a big risk the quality of the shows will go down due to large inshow advertising "hi joey, i see your enjoying a thirst quenching sprite!" because it's the only way to get the adverts to be watched (assuming people actually watch Joey).

  2. Waaaaambulance on UK To Passively Monitor Every Vehicle · · Score: 0, Flamebait

Seems to be a lot of people crying about the system. They probably enjoy breaking the speed limit. Here is a controvertial little thought though. If you need to get somewhere for a certain time, how about leaving 20 minutes earlier and not speeding? Your life can't be that hard to get in order than you cannot manage it. I have no complaints about methods being brought in place like this. One of the big advantages of the system is the government will be able to track where all the traffic is going and where from. What this means is that if there is a lot of traffic in certain areas they will then subsidise local and national public transport to put on services in the area and reduce the car overload. This was last achieved by the UK national census in 2000, some of the questions asking people about their travel habits. I really do not see the issue about someone knowing what you're up to, after all, you all know i'm sat at my computer right now having written this reply. How ever will I live with you knowing that information?

  3. Bill never was Mr Popular.... on Bill Gates Donates $258 Million to Fight Malaria · · Score: 5, Insightful

Bill is a generous guy, although yes it is easy to be generous when you're not putting yourself out. I have a lot of respect for him tackling the important issues rather than the popular ones. (There are a ton of people donating to the charities in the headlines, just to get in the headlines themselves, Red Cross right now at number 1) Bill is going for the forgotten charities which are just as, if not more, important due to the devastation malaria has on the human population. As always, Bill is not being cool, and that's a good thing!

  4. Paypal ARE a bank on PayPal Freezes Hurricane Relief Account · · Score: 1

Under UK law, they do actually count as a bank, and because of this have to follow all the same procedures as any other UK bank. They are also answerable to the British government should they try anything dodgy.

  6. Common Sense on eBay sellers Told to Include GST · · Score: 1

It makes perfect sense to include all taxes in the price of goods rather than to tack them on after you have agreed to buy something. Ebay users who failed to put the tax odd on the sale price, instead choosing to add it when the punter went to pay clearly got more hits from doing it this way, much to the chagrin of the 'honest' sellers. I know that I always search for items on eBay by the price primarily and by the rating secondarily.

Yes I remember there being some quiz question about "On the US governments website, which state has the most views of their fiscal statistics" or similar. Turned out to be Alabama, simply because they were at the top of the list.
