I donated to Mozilla before because it was a non profit, and IF this is just some stupid tax/legal thing why did they make Mozilla.com a completely difforent site than Mozilla.org. If it was just a tax/legal thing why didn't they just call it that, and keep it kinda silent and just use it on tax forms. Also I don't want some stupid-ass CEO or something getting rich off of these developers. If I make a donation to the Mozilla Foundation, I want my money going to expenses such as servers, bandwidth, and maybe enough to help the full-time mozilla foundation employees pay some bills, but I don't want anyone to get filthy rich from donations because mozilla is a community.
This might be the death of mozilla as we know it.
plus, now I you can't say Mozilla is a non-profit organization anymore.
Most laptops and commercially made desktops have a serial number, so if you make an simple algerithm out of that code (example if the serial number is "6835x" you can make the admin password be "yietx" because "[Y][I][E][T]" are the keys under "[6][8][3][5]" on a QWERTY keyboard. so that way hopefully maybe someone would find the password for one computer, but hopefully they wouldn't figure out the simple algerithm you made. or you could just make a simple database with the laptop serial number that is linked to a truely unique password.
now here comes some A.C. post about how "This is slashdot and we use dvorak keyboards"
probably only 13 students got charged because they were probably the "geeks" who figured it out. or maybe they had a history of causing trouble. or maybe they were trusted students that might have worked in the schools IT Dept.
"The laptop cost would be ~$1385.00 with a 4 year parts and labor warranty. The cost of the software installed on the laptop computer exceeds $1800.00 per unit. The cost of the padded sleeve is ~$20.00 The cost of a 4 year software upgrade protection plan is $135.00 The cost of tech support is $45.00 and up per hour."
They say there is $1800 worth of software on the laptops... what a waste of money, I'd just have them put openoffice on a just a cheaper laptop running linux.
I have a feeling that the reason that only 13 kids are charged is because the 13 might have been the "geeks" who figured it out, and the rest of the kids just followed.
i think it's ok to buy stuff from other countrys, but a good reason to buy domestic products is incase one of our suppliers stops sending us weapons, etc. having the factorys right in the US, you don't need to worry about disruptions in the supply line. but if our suppliers become angry, they might cut off our supplies or send us defective products.
so basicly, it's important for the US to be able to make it's own supplies in a time of need.

Heck, the school should hire these kids (the ones who actually figured out the password, not the ones who just followed the directions)

technically, as i recall, this "x-ray" machine actually uses 1mm microwaves, not x-rays.
woops didn't mean to post as AC
