Check out a few of the TV ads, you'll see what I mean. I hope they never put those on TV, or I'll be too embarassed to admit that I'm a Mac user.
Hint to Apple marketing: If you create an image of the typical Mac user as lonely geeky loser, no one will want a Mac!
No one wants to be a lonely geeky loser.
That Dell Dude is cooler than any of the Mac users in these ads. Even that Gateway CEO and his cow are cooler.
In one ad, the "chick" notes that she didn't like her PC because it "wasn't attractive." Isn't there more to Macs than appearance? Haven't Mac users been trying to get past the "You only bought it because it's pretty" stigma ever since the first iMac? I know I have.
Show people that real work can be done on Macs. Show people that they can play games on Macs. Produce multiple ads promoting the product, and get them on the airways.
No more "I was too dumb to run a PC, so I bought a Mac" ads, please! Here's a hint: "I was smart enough to by a Mac because it was better than a PC. Period."

Not on an iMac though. There isn't a way to stop the ram from being removed.
Yes there is. There's a hole in the latch (the part you turn using a coin or whatever) that, when a cable lock is inserted, will prevent the latch from being opened.
It's hard as hell to find a lock to fit it, but once locked down, you cannot open it. I found a cable-type luggage lock that fit.
I just shelled out a premium to buy brand-new Apple hardware, and now they start nickel-and-diming me to make it work like it should (read: reasonable finder performance).
I'm on an old B&W 400 MHz G3 and my finder performance is just fine, even on the 3 gigs of files I moved off my previous computer.
And we certainly dont believe he got better at coding while he worked at MS.
You've never learned from the mistakes of others?
Being a former M$ employee tells me he learned quite a bit.

disappointing and downright rude if you've got 1+ month old iBook, a 5+ month old iMac, or a 9+ month old PowerBook. In other words, the majority of Macs sold in the past year (and 95% of OSX-capable Macs sold before that) cannot use Quartz Extreme.
Yes, how dare Apple develop new technology that utilizes the latest (and future) hardware to its fullest! What were they thinking?!?
That's just like those damn ID Software people that keep putting out new games that make us buy new video cards!
Anyway...one clarification:
the majority of Macs sold in the past year (and 95% of OSX-capable Macs sold before that) cannot use Quartz Extreme.
You forgot "to its fullest extent." Read the Quartz Extreme specs again, and pay special attention to the word 'recommended.' Look it up if you need to.
Wow, the machine in question has just been made available for sale, and you're already a former user.
Got any tips for the Belmont Stakes?

Isn't funny how most of thoose who bitch about the militant like open source/. community, are just as militant against it.
Isn't it funny how those who bitch the most about how they ought to get everything for free (music, software, movies) are the ones getting their basic necessities (food, clothing, shelter) for free?
When you actually start earning a living for yourself, you begin to respect the efforts of others much more.
I don't mean to troll, but if think slashdot is immature, post at MSNBC.com, or some other shit like that...
The vast majority of Slashdot users are mature. I do have my doubts about the ones having difficulties mastering English grammar and spelling.

Performance allows one to play (using the traditional term here) any song at any time without owing anyone.
Wrong. Anytime you perform an artist's work (stage play, song, orchestra piece, etc.) in a public performance someone (you, the venue, the radio station) has to pay for the rights (license) to perform the work.
Playing or performing the music in a public setting requires the venue, establishment, or in some cases the individual to secure an additional license, The Public Performance License. The basic concept here is that if you are going to benefit from the performance of a writer's composition, the writer should also benefit. These fees collected by the societies are eventually distributed among its member writers as compensation for the performance of their works.
This is about organizations created to collect fees for the creators of the work. It's not about those 'rotten corporations.'
This isn't new. This is how creators make their money. If you want to stop living in your parent's basement and eating out of their fridge, then create something people want.
Here are the HOWTO's on converting a Copy-Protected Compact Disc into an audio format suitable for a computer.
First, make sure the disc is actually protected, as all this would become a waste of your time. Likewise, check to see if it works in a normal player, preferably a portable.
Use a male-to-male audio cable to connect the output of the player to your machine's sound card. You can get the cable at Radio Shack for less than ten dollars. If your player has a specially marked "Line Out" port, use that, otherwise use the regular headphone port. At the sound card, plug into either the "Line In" (preferred) or "Microphone" port.
Open up a recorder program, such as Sound Recorder under Windows. Hit "Record" in Recorder, and then press "Play" on the player. Adjust volume on your speakers as suitable to your enjoyment and sanity. At the end of the song, press "Stop" in the Recorder program. Then stop the player.
You now have (if using Sound Recorder) a wav file. Trim dead space (ie, silence before and after the song) in both the head and tail of the recording. Play back the wave, and adjust volume of the recording as you see fit. If you desire, convert the file to the format of your choice (see File-Properties under Sound Recorder).

Congratulations! You have transferred a track off a protected disc onto your computer!
Note: Some tinkering may be required, and as such, feel free to revise as necessary. No guarantee this will work, but should be a start for most of you. Good luck!
Woo. You convert it to analog. So? You think no one's ever thought of that?
I was recording like that 30 years ago with a cassette player between my stereo speakers.
People nowaday has higher tolerance to imaginative stories based on derived interpretation of popular religions, it seems.
If you go back far enough in human history, you'll discover that's exactly what the bible is ("imaginative stories based on derived interpretation of popular religions").
Popular science is the same magazine that predicted that we'd be using zero emmisions vehicles by now too.
We do. They're called bicycles.

The resolution capabilities drop over longer lengths, but there are transmitter/reciever systems that can send RGB signals (such as the typical VGA output) over twisted-pair cable up to 1000 feet at 640x480.
