Comparing this to Concorde is very silly. It's a bit like comparing the Sputnik launcher to a modern sattilite launcher. Concorde and Sputnik were cold war silliness. The modern launcher and hopefully this new aircraft, are economical, otherwise nobody would be building them
Erm, that was Europe, the largest economy in the world, not France. And what IS this sudden anti-French thing? They have a dubious colonial history like every other large developed nation. What IS the problem? Is it the Iraq invasion? Because, erm, only two countries in the EU participated in that, and one of them since withdrew, the other is under pressure from its people to do so.
The Concorde was a piece of cold-war silliness, just like the Tupolev T-whatever and the Boeing one that never flew (and the B-70). This is being designed as an economically viable plane.
Are you? They were saying the same thing about 1980 in 1970, you know. And it's not a CASE of technical advance; there's rarely any new technology involved in these things. It's engineering and testing cost. It's also arguable whether anyone would want a 1000 person plane; it's even questionable if there's a serious market for the new giant AirBus.
In most countries, killing for property or money is a very serious crime, moreso than ordinary murder. It carries a mandatory life sentence here (Ireland). Ordinary murder doesn't. Confusingly, 'life sentence' means twenty years, while 'capital punishment' means thirty years, as far as I remember. Figure that one out;)
Supplying the Titan probe and various other probes, having a heavy launch vehicle that beats anything the US currently has deployed, various bits of the space station...
If you eat a herbivore, that's roughly 100 times less energy efficient than eating the plants;) (In turn, plants don't gather sunlight, all THAT well).
Are you approaching this from an American point of view? As far as I can see, all European food served in America is required to be covered in cheese and full of meat, or something. (I think it's the law;) ) This is not an accurate reflection of reality.
Really? America didn't exactly rush to France's aid last time it was in need. In fact, about the only obvious assistance rendered on either side was the French assistance in the American revolution, as far as I can see...
Ah, he's racist, but he's also classist, so that makes it okay? Hmm, does he get a Nobel Peace prize if he can also demonstrate he's a homophobe, or something?
Most large European powers were fairly bad back then. America's actions weren't exactly to be commended, either; genocide of natives, anyone? If you're allowed discriminate about people because they weren't very nice in the past, then, erm, that more or less leaves you with the Dalai Llama. Maybe.
People seem to be forgetting the more INTERESTING concession demanded by Europe, tho, the server interfaces. The Media Player thing was a bit beside the point.
It should apparently be fast enough that you're into at least quad xeon/opteron territory. It will also have fancy onboard ethernet and encryption, which should speed it up. Memory controllers on-chip, so motherboard should be cheap enough; the big cost will be the chip. Remember that they won't be trying to make a profit on the hardware; they'll do that by selling support contracts.
ERm, as far as I know they have floating point; just not very much of it;) (one shared unit, not one core having it and the rest not). And really, most server code shouldn't have floating point at all.
Unless they have a SETI program of their own, they'll never hear it. That's the problem with SETI. How much radio does Earth emit nowadays? It's mostly low-range microwave and satellite beam communications; little opportunity to listen in.
Well, there WERE only two, and the Tupolev one was extremely similar; even blew up the same number of times!
If any of the large powers (UK, US, USSR) had stayed out of it, Germany would likely have won, or at least taken a LOT longer to beat.
Sorry, meant EU at the time of the war. (Think Cyprus or somewhere was also involved).

You know, the Americans eat more cheese than the French. And without France you might well still be a British colony. Damn uppity colonials ;)
Nonsense; the average American weighs far more than that. Some of them are over 500kilos! ;)

Erm, they're going to put billions into a project with a rival. Sounds like a shift in alliances to me...

No, quite the opposite. There won't be much meat in a long-term colony on the moon or mars, you know ;).

You may well PREFER the sound, but that doesn't neccesarily mean it's more accurate.
An affiliate link? Shame on you.

Deep-sea life is under far greater pressure. But it's interesting in that this is the first rocky planet found, as far as I know.
This is sort of "I don't mind gay people as long as they act straight in public" syndrome, really.
