And what I was trying to say passed way beyond your line of thought. There's no point asking questions like "how would you feel if X happened to you?" and trying to derive some kind of law or norm from the answer. All you end up with is a tyranny dictated by this "society" you speak of.
And of course there is a whole range of different situations: that's the reason why I do not stomp on mice (besides not having any running around my apartment). But it's useless to argue on such subjects. You might find mice-stomping entertaining; I hope not so but some people actually do. Letting everyone free to behave as they like is the only sensible way to handle (actually... *not* to handle) the situation.
Can't you see the truth in your own words? When Cthulhu is swallowing your soul you certainly have no rights - your very soul is being eaten and your mind shattered!
Besides, you say it's ok to eat a mouse but not to stomp on it for the sake of it - guess what, everyone has a different idea about what's ok and what is not and there is only one viable solution to this problem: I will do what I think is ok and you can do what you think is ok. So if scientist habitually breed strange mice and kill them, or if cruel kids stomp on mice and kill them... they're free to do it. Maybe I won't do the same, maybe I will.
So you have to hack the game to work install on w2k3
Talk about a nuisance! Oftentimes I have to use Orca to hack the.msi file(s) and make the damn installer do its thing. And if you remember, in the beginning even DirectX refused to install on win2k3.
Oh, so anyone who distributes trojans is malicious? How about pen testers, researchers, antivirus vendors, or simply people who feel like programming a trojan for its own sake?
Even assuming that Sony's behaviour should be punished, how about we punish them for the actual damage they caused? Otherwise, it becomes just like the old patent rant: "just because it's made with a computer, it is not necessarily a new thing". So why bring in new laws?
That said, anyone who feels like using state-sponsored violence (oops, I meant to say "The Law") to solve their own gripes with Sony is a nutcase. You certainly sound like one.
you can listen to cell phone conversations with $30 worth of gear from radioshack
Say what? Last I checked, cell phone communication is encrypted and the keys are changed and exchanged 5 times a second. Not exactly easy to crack. Certainly not with 30$ worth of stuff. But if you have more information on this, please tell me - I'm really curious. I seriously think cell phones are quite secure but if they are not, I need to know.
By now you're redefining "ideologism" as "opinion" but there's a reason why they're not synonyms. "I think I might give some money to this beggar" is an opinion. "Let's kill the bloody people who have the nerve to oh gosh - actually WORK - and steal all their money and waste it on lowlife" is an ideology. The OpenBSD license is a bit like the first statement. GNU v3 is more like the second...
Well I've seen quite a few that officially require XP. Can't remember them off the top of my head but there are some. Then again, maybe they work just as well on 2k if you force installation, I've never tried.
Well I kinda summed it up a bit too much but my point is that *users* won't care about such technologies. I, as a developer, think they might be nice (but as I'm switching over to Linux I don't care too much); users won't. I was not saying Vista is stupid or limited; I was saying users will not perceive it as worth much more than XP. Then of course if developers force them to use Vista, that's another story...
Well, Vista does look like it's seriously going to be a helluva flop, but because of a very simple reason: users don't need it! No, they don't care about security, they don't want to know about WinFS (which isn't there anyway), they certainly don't care about.NET 2.
What matters is that they don't want to buy a new Dell in order to use... what exactly? Actually, were it not for some games and a slicker GUI, I'd probably stick with 2k, which is still the best Windows made to date. Yeah, holes in RPC and whatnot, but still better than all the other Windowses.
They just don't know HOW to use a file-sharing app! I mean, there are big bad config's to set, and what is this "router" thing you keep bugging me about? I want it to JUST WORK!
Yes, this was tongue-in-cheek.
Actually, you can download the patch following a link you find on the page describing the issue. Then you can patch all pirated copies on Windows you want. I mean... that's what I've heard...
Developing new medicines costs a lot because of the high barrier to entry imposed by the gov't with the loads of regulation that it's forcing on the market. If such market (and all other) were deregulated, costs would plummet. But hey, regulation is so good - otherwise, how would you stop teh 3vil capital1s7 haX0rz from 0wnzor1^H^H^H^H^H?H^H'sploiting the proletarians?

Well, I'm certainly not a native speaker but I do know John Doe as well as his friends Joe Six-Pack and Joe R. User.

A resounding YES!
And it makes you look stupid. Administrative shares like \C$ are NOT ACCESSIBLE when the admin's password is blank.
Hello? China is a communist country.
Care to attack his point by proving the guy is a winner?

Welcome to the world of liberticides, also known as politicians.
Looks to me like the government makes, uhm, LAWS? And you think laws do not interfere with industries? Heck, they RULE you.
Well I've seen quite a few that officially require XP. Can't remember them off the top of my head but there are some. Then again, maybe they work just as well on 2k if you force installation, I've never tried.
Oh cut me some slack, will you? I just made a *joke* because I happened to watch Star Wars again last week. It was meant to make you smile...

With the difference that I don't really believe in what I wrote... but I think he's too stupid to realize it and will get mad.

... disturbing.
Come redneck, come bite our European asses...
Clueless management of a secure OS makes it less secure than an insecure OS fully patched up and properly administered.
WELL DUH!
If not, there's really no limit to how much damage they can claim.
Which is the reason why I would have had his head cut off and put on the tip of a spear, and subsequently hanged on the city walls.
