It was not about the oil; it was about preventing the switch to the PetrolEuro. Which it succeeded to do. It was also about squashing some groups in Afghanistan; which it did. Bin Laden however is still free (if he's alive). And it has cost an awful amount of money. But at the same time it saved your economy from tanking, at least for a little while.
All in all I'd say the war has had mixed results.
DNS as it was intended to be has failed. Nowadays we have a flat namespace where all names have a.com appended at the end. Nobody wants to use anything else (yeah, I realize there are uses for.net and.org but they just don't compare). I believe some new naming system needs to be devised; unfortunately, it cannot be centralized (or it will be somehow exploited by the running org) but it cannot be fragmentary either (or it won't be a naming system at all). Maybe we should realize that a world wide effort to name our network resources consistently and cooperatively is doomed to fail. Perhaps we should start using all kinds of weird suffixes, but then again who's going to collect the money for them? And if nobody does, what stops me from registering tens of thousands of them?
Does anyone have original, innovative thoughts and ideas on this issue?
Well first of all you've destroyed your lungs by smoking that (quasi-unfiltered) stuff. Secondly, I have first-hand experience of people who've fried their brains taking drugs. Even dedicated pot smokers can suffer consequences, even though it's possibly the least damaging drug of all. Now I am personally in favor of people freely buying whatever they want (drugs, weapons, whatever), but it's just stupid to pretend that drugs have no effects on you.
I use Altiris Software Virtualization solution (SVS) and it seems to work OK for some apps but crash and burn for some others. Basically, simple apps work fine; apps that install lowish-level stuff (services, drivers, printers, fonts, etc) don't work, either fine or at all. It's free for personal use, so you can try it out. Please read the documentation, there is some important stuff in there, more than usual. HTH
Of course it is. Either I pay more for a high-tech ticketting system that keeps cheaters out of a service I benefit from, or I pay nothing for a service I don't use. That's of course assuming that the service is funded by the users, not by the public at large, a huge fraction of which does not benefit from it and should not have to pay for it.
Is it so hard to drop all non-SMTP, non-DNS traffic at the firewall? Add protocols to the whitelist as needed. Besides, it's stupid to rely on the lack of a browser to prevent users from surfing, as they just need to bring it from home on a USB stick or mail it to themselves. Blocking at the firewall works much, much better.
Hehehe that's funny, I didn't expect it to be such an exotic bit of knowledge. I read about it when I was studying how DNS works, one of the first things I learnt was that at the top of the global DNS tree there is a single entity from which everything else descends, and it is called ".". So the FQDN of a host always ends in ".". In my defense, I never read RFCs either:P
There is always an implied dot at the end of any FQDN. It's just that usually we omit it. Notice how the web server does answer the request, but errors out because its config files do not point to the requested host.
Actually, SMTP auth + SPF are the only tools you need to get rid of spam. Real servers only accept your mail if you have authenticated (this solves open relays), and dubious servers will trigger an SPF check on the receiving end (this solves botnets), thereby eliminating what little spam had got through.
So. Are you in favor of or against totally unregulated distribution of any and all weapons to anyone, indiscriminately? That's the only thing that can ever free the populace.
Trillian, Miranda and... what was the other one called... oh yes, Psi all beat it. I personally like Miranda a lot. Pidgin feels like your typical Linux software trying to run on Windows: it fails, is ugly to look at, crashes and doesn't behave.
While I agree with your sensei, I would like to point out that it only takes a random guy off the street a few weeks of training at a military facility to learn basic fighting. I can't possibly be that hard. Most of their techniques are very simple 1-2-3 full out assaults that leave you unconscious or severely disabled; and they work because frankly, the first one to attack is usually the one who "wins". (Obviously we're talking about mere street fighting here)
That's my opinion, as an amateur martial artist who likes to look at many different ways to manage a fight.
I don't see what part of "don't be a dick" (because this is what christianity is all about) is incompatible with world politics etc. Besides I'm an atheist (I thought I had made that clear by my last comment) yet all you offer me are ad hominem attacks. Looks to me like you don't want to discuss, rather just fight.
A christian is anyone who has embraced Jesus Christ as their god and spiritual leader in life. Everything else you quote is, well, fluff. So he can certainly be a Christian, love his god and his fellows, and not take those things you fear seriously/literally. What's so hard to understand? Even I can.
I have already answered your questions and addressed your concerns in my previous post. Read it? Bye

I usually ask myself: "What would Khorne do?".
:P
On an unrelated note, what is this "compassion" you speak of?
Huh? There exists another kind?

Ok, I'll bite...
*Why* exactly should my money support anything?

It's funny, everytime you post I can only read the words: "I'm a useful idiot, please don't make me switch my brain on".
Great resources! Thanks and have a good weekend at the farm :)
Hi! What's that piece of s/w called? I'd like to try it out. Thanks
I thought the pie was a lake.
