    Yes, generally the i8xx series is kind of broken. Starting from i9xx, everything is premium though.

    But now that this is out, people looking for jobs are all going to switch to firefox and chrome. They probably still won't have whatever quality makes them good at the job, but they will have lived up to the expectations of the HR algorithm.

    It's like crafting your resume these days: you are supposed to put all the recommended tricks of the day there, and when HR reads the paper they similarly go through a specific checklist that "makes a good resume".

    the metal case and better screen quality are just icing on the cake.

    Most laptops have two antennas (it's actually a MIMO system in engineering terms ;) ). You could grab the HP ProBook 4340s for about $600, top it with Photoshop Elements or GIMP and call it a day.

    Just to meta-nitpick, you guys are probably talking about color temperature rather than spectrum... Even two 2700K light sources can have different color rendition properties.

    I find that in general they either stop working in the first two months or keep working through several years.

    That's the bathtub curve... it sounds like there is some Quality Assurance problems by the manufacturer(s).

    One of them does take quite a bit sometime to blink on, but I'm told that you can replace the starter in them easily, and that the remainder of the bulb is essentially fine.

    Yes. It's a small capsule which you turn to release it, and replace with a similar type.

    The all-in-one market CFLs sadly don't have this option...

    Ubisoft is the most worthless company ever. They hate their customers and every game they have ever made is complete shit.

    No, the games really are fine. But Ubisoft has a strong record of insane copy protection schemes, including this uPlay bullshit. I personally do not buy products from this company anymore.

    nVidia is still the worst company regarding linux support. I have phisical pain because I can't connect an external montitor to my linux labtop. They are fucking morrons who obviously can't program a driver. FUCK U NVIDIA! Linus is right that they are a lot worse than AMD. At least they could have the dignity to support the nouveau driver. FUCK U NVIDIA. At least Ubuntu 13.04 and probably fedorda 19 won't support the latest latops that have an current nvidia chip. And thanks to optimus you can't connect an externeal monitor. FUCK U NVIDIA!

    In your case I would simply recommend to get a laptop with Intel HD Graphics.

    On the contrary. I want to know how the Linux driver compares with the Windows driver, feature-wise, and performance-wise. It's not a technical question. It's a user-oriented question, e.g. with this new driver, how could a game compiled or run under Wine in Linux compare to the same game for Windows quality-wise and framerate-wise, assuming OpenGL takes advantage of all of the features of each driver when available.

    There's always the problem that Windows games are mostly DirectX and the DX->GL translation incurs always some overhead when playing games under Wine (as the Linux graphics driver does not support DirectX).

    Ah, finally Nvidia fixed the son of a gun. :) I already have classical music playing in the background, and I will bring on the wine and cheese when fast hardware accelerated HTML5 video or Flash is reality in Linux world.

    Oh. The adventure genre has been making a comeback lately.

    Check out titles such as Resonance, Machinarium and Deponia.

    I have. Their god damn servers decided to label my copy of Windows XP Pro as "non-genuine" and refused to activate it after it was installed a certain number of times--on the same fucking computer.

    The only time I've called MS support has also been an activation issue with a legitimate product. They are way too nazi about their copy protection these days, that's not cool at all.

    I can actually say that a legal copy of Windows 7 has provided me the value of its retail price (about €150). I haven't bought any other versions of Windows, and am not interested in, though.

    most importantly, it isn't so shiny and low-contrast as 7. I am slightly colorblind, and I can't easily discern in Areo which button on the taskbar is selected and which is just shiny.

    I have no much vision problems, but low scroll bar contrast is something that annoys me on many OSs these days. Mac seems to fare best in this regard.

    Looking at the system logs, I have noticed that Windows 7 phones home monthly and verifies the serial. I don't know if this has any actual effect on the activation status, though.
