CDs cannot be made unreadable as long as DVDs are around. It's called backwards compatibility.
ALL image files can be converted into any image format, and there are programs outthere that do it (IrFanView).
All files created can be converted. Even from back in the day of DOS. Because history doesn't just jump generations, but moves smoothely, knowledge (in this case knowledge of file formats) will not be lost. File formats are very well documented and anyone can decrypt them.
That isn't the point. The capability to do HD is not what we are talking about. We're talking about the cost of buying an HDTV versus just getting a tip-top computer with a 1600x1200 CRT (which is in itself better than any HDTV that is near affordable to the average person).
If people will just buy an HDTV just because a new system came out, they might as well buy a computer and get twice the power and visuals.
I run an Nvidia Geforce 5700 LE, and I still get decent graphics in Half-Life 2. Besides, nothing beats the mouse and keyboard.
I don't believe Java can possibly be faster. It runs on a virtual machine and is interpreted. C is compiled into machine code.

Flash isn't even a programming language. ActionScript can't do anything compared to C.
Another thing, Java and Flash are interpreted languages. C, on the other hand is compiled. Compiled programs are infinitely faster than interpreted programs.

Not stopping kids from looking at porn is not a crime. Its like if I'm at home, some guy raids my house, I don't have an obligation to stop him, as long as I don't tell him to rob my house (insurance fraud).
And yes, college kids do care. In dorms, they are stuck with the college's internet (unless they use satellite), which may or may not block porn sites.
SafeSurf means nothing. Porn sites do it so that they avoid legal issues, but they know that most kids have full internet access at home (unless you suffere with AOL's proxy service).
And actually, there is one incentive to move. People will be able to search for sites with.xxx as the domain, meaning that they will get better coverage in search engines.
Think about it, all the filtering software is going to block *.xxx the day the domains start selling (some have probably already been patched to block them). Why would the porn industry move over? They want the kids and they ESPECIALLY want the college kids.
They are going to stick with.com, unless they target an older audience. It's like having a.games domain that is blocked by every school filter, no site would switch over.
Though the concept is great behind.xxx, it is naive to the largest extent possible.
