The utterly pathetic thing is that most SPI flash actually directly supports such a jumper. The mainboard manufacturers just likely have found out that people are too stupid to handle jumpers and left it out.
Coupled with non-understanding how things work. Anybody profiting from the current bubble is taking that money from those that will still be holding Bicoin when it crashes. This has absolutely nothing to do with trust.
I recently upgraded to 1Gbps (symmetric) and I would say that is "high speed". But 10Mbps seems decidedly on the average-to-slow side. Is this some politically-motivated lie to make people believe the 2rd rate speed they will be getting in 2020 is "great"?
It is called "Greater fool Theory": The fools buying now hope that there are even greater fools around that will later buy from them. And it works for a while, because there are a lot of fools in the human race.
It is close to organized religion in the benefits the participants actually get (read: next to nothing), but organized religion usually takes a long-term, strategic approach. As religion is still doing fine in this supposed age of enlightenment, is it any surprise that other scams also find plenty of victims? Humans are, as a general rule, stupid. About 10-15% are an exception to the rule, but the rest just cannot help it. They do understand _nothing_, but they are unaware of that.
And that is it. Unless you are stupid and desperately tying to sound "hip". Using the already well defined short form "crypto" for "cryptographic currency" is an utter fail.
They do not mean "cryptography" by "crypto". Another stupid mainstream creation along the lines of "cyber". About as useful too: You can tell that whoever uses these terms has no clue.
Chemical self-replication IS basically what life is. If the "building blocks" are available, self replicating molecules will do just that. At what point you call that "life" is debatable, but in the end, this is what life does. Replicate itself from available resources.
And fail. Your invalid generalization results in an invalid conclusion. You probably also think that icicles forming (which is basically a physical self-replication) is "life". Incidentally, do you think self-replicating computer malware is "life"?
As long as the moronic majority votes for them, they in a sense are doing what the public wants. Not saying this is good, but a majority of the voters is inflicting Republicans on themselves without good reason.
You misinterpret the state of the art in Science by jumping to invalid conclusions.
Nobody has yet created anything comparable to living matter. Chemical self-replication is meaningless. Hence it is still unclear whether life can actually be created from non-living matter in an evolutionary process. Panspermia is one possible explanation, although it has the same problem, just once removed.
The average person still does not care at all. Hence software can still get worse and even cheaper to make before it starts to cut into profits. And it will.
Bookmarks still suck in Vivaldi (well, depends on your usage), but I have moved over from Opera 12.x. Opera never recovered from their ill-advised change after 12.x, in particular because they were not up to the same feature-set for a long time. (They still may not be, I have stopped caring.) Way to waste a very good niche position.
You are asking people that found that "prison guard" or "justice secretary" were their calling in life to actually understand technology, even if only a little bit. It is far easier for them to call for restrictive laws, they were probably just waiting for a pretext anyways.
Waah, some actual knowledge of what is going on! We cannot have that on slashdot. This site is all about clueless big-ego wannabe techies that know better and need no stinking facts.
In other words: Exactly this. There is also another longer-term factor: When genuine recordings start to get touched up by "AI", they will exhibit some of the same characteristics as fakes. This has already started.
The respective definitions are available. You are just ignorant about them. The second problem is that you lump in calibration and mindless statistical classification for specific, narrow problems with insight and understanding. These things are fundamentally different. Alphazero is about as intelligent as a loaf of bread. It has no concept of what it is doing. It cannot do any general tasks. And that is just the thing: True intelligence is general. No machine has that and it is unclear whether it will ever get it.
Same here. Laser (or rather usually LED these days) is the solution. Reliable, fast and does not mind sitting idle or off for long periods of time.
I am not objecting to 10Mbps, I am objecting to calling it "high speed".
The utterly pathetic thing is that most SPI flash actually directly supports such a jumper. The mainboard manufacturers just likely have found out that people are too stupid to handle jumpers and left it out.
My take is that the professor has some Bitcoin of his own and is trying to do a bit of pumping before he dumps.
Indeed. The Penny Stock people have seen this before and pretty often. They do know exactly what is going on.
WTF are you talking about? Cryptography is old and of course it is going to stay!
Oh, I see, you are one of those morons that think "crypto" is a good abbreviation for "crypto currency".

Who is writing this stuff?
Clueless morons. I guess the author of this trash was one of those "stunned" by technology working as designed.
No expert is even mildly surprised that technology worked as expected. Seriously, what is it with the demented stories?

As long as the supply of idiots with some way to get cash does not dry up, "Pump and Dump" will continue to work.

You will seriously argue that sperm and eggs are non-living? Do you also think the earth is flat?

Indeed, it is. People perceive pathetically bad quality as "normal".
