Any one law taken to an extreme will conflict with at least one other law if it is also taken to an extreme. This is the fundamental understanding that freshmen in law-school are taught. This is the price of having literally hundreds of thousands of laws. There is no possible way to stay completely legal and live a normal life. Tis the job of legislators to legislate. They will do it until they are not allowed to anymore, this is the nature of their purpose. Thankfully, we have judges (and juries) whose sole purpose is to make sure that laws are kept in check and apply them to the real world.
[They have] good taste in car bodies since they've used the Sportech and xB for their major projects.

Clearly your idea of good taste and my idea of good taste are at odds with each other. Nothing about a box on wheels is aesthetically attractive to me.
They never make it a condition of the donations but its made clear that gratitude is expected, and that a Christmas card probably won't cut it.
Do you have any shred of proof for this allegation? I feel that the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation does wonderful things...and to cast this type of accusation...that they expect to make money from their contributions....is irresponsible and repulsive, unless its true. This is the same thing as fanatic fanboism, only against instead of for.
Maybe the real reason they are actually taking receipt of the Classmate PC is that it is...I dunno...available. By the GP's own statement:
Fishy things have been going on in Classmate PC Vs OLPC. Recently I read that Microsoft & Intel have already begun shipment to Libya of their classmate PCs. Libya had agreed to buy 1.2 million OLPCs but, of course, they aren't available yet.
Its possible that Libya got tired of waiting for the OLPC to be shipped...so instead went with another supplier of a very similar product who could deliver today.
I mean, does it REALLY matter what O/S is on the computer that the reaches these people?...really? Its a Computer, for a child, in a developing country. Quit bitching about the minutia.

(1) You build your reactor to tolerate running somewhat hot; granted there will be some tradeoffs that might make your 1 week outward leg a bit longer.
(2) When you reach Mars, you ditch your reactor on Phobos, which has a gravity of about 1/1000 g -- just enough to be reasonably convenient.
(3) You let it sit there using Phobos as a heat sink, then pick it up for your return journey when your mission is done.
(4) You insert yourself into lunar orbit, where you ditch your reactor for good.

I'm not impressed. I can get errors with plain old JavaScript.
With all due respect...the Parent is correct. If an employee has gotten themselves into a position to not be able to walk away from a company that is imposing in-humane or privacy invading policies...that is THEIR fault.
If everything you own has a promise attached to it (loan, note, mortage) then you are setting yourself up to HAVE to work...regardless of what insane policies your employer imposes. No one's fault but yours.
The main reason I set up my Web-based business in a small town in Rural GA (aside from the fact that it was my hometown many years ago) is that it costs next to nothing to rent a decent sized office. I pay $400/month for rent on what would demand 5 times that in a larger urban or metropolitan area. So I trade off cheap Internet for cheap rent.
Most places that have any decent population density have cellular service, and most cellular providers offer near-broadband speeds for less than $100/mo for unlimited access. If that isn't an option, you could always bite the proverbial bullet and get a full or partial T-1.
As a club DJ for nearly a decade I can tell you from experience that strong strobe lights can cause a near instant migraine when they hit the proper frequency of pulse. We used a box that connected into the main mixer to 'synchronize' the music with the lights...and a synth hi-hat could cause the strobe to pulse around 1-3 times a second, sometimes on funky beats it would get into a very fast/slow alternating pattern, which would nearly instantly make me feel nauseated. Add JegarMeister to the mix and you'd get a lot of people staring at the floor to keep from feeling sick.
What gets me really worked up is that this really isn't that big of a deal to most people. They don't even notice it. Yes, hundreds of thousands of people listen to net radio, but they don't have any idea that it is going to stop. I totally expected to hear about this on the news this morning, but I couldn't seem to find anything about it between the Wrestler and the War in Error (sic).
Is there any way we could contact our regular Radio & Local News stations and raise awareness of this issue?
I watched the High Definition trailor and I was impressed with the graphics of it, but the Terrian Marine smoking a cigar the whole time the machines installed his suit was a little hard to get. Plus at the end of the trailor, his space suit's visor closes with that damn cigar still in his mouth....I'm no rocket scientist...but it seems like that'd be a bad idea to seal yourself in a spacesuit with limited oxygen and a cigar...

I'm glad someone was awake during their high school Civics class besides me. We have a right to do ANYTHING & EVERYTHING, except those things which Congress/President/SCOTUS takes away from us, or bestows upon the government. I agree with Hamilton's assertion that if we enumerate the important (top 10) rights, the others will be assumed to not exist. Which in fact this is NOT the case.
I'm not trying to troll...or maybe I am, but I can't understand why something like this gets on the frontpage of Slashdot. What do the editors do? I mean really?
So, if theft is considered income...then being stolen from is considered a loss? Can I claim losses when someone steals...say...$5000 worth of stereo equipment?
Maybe this has been mentioned before, but this seems absurd. In order to drive in a part of town that suffers from congestion, you must pay a 8euro congestion charge. That is insane. Am I the only one that thinks this is rediculous?

It failed the lameness filter because...probably...the post was lame. It may be cute or even border on humor, but its still lame.
