I still find that they slow the system way down. (nearly as bad as using Norton Antivirus).
I run AVG and Comodo Firewall on winXP, system is working fine.
Anyway I'm gradually making the switch to Linux so won't have to worry about MS.
Do people actually install those updates?
There is nothing like those updates to bring your system to a crawl. The only updates I install when using Windows are Service Packs and Antivirus updates.
Copy all your photos to a usb flash drive or sd-card and just post them to yourself. Alternatively just upload them all to Flickr and make them private (or not). Better yet, use both methods. I woudn't bring a laptop to the states at all, use cyber-cafes to access your files and back them up on Flickr or other sites. http://pix.ie/ is another great photo site, is completely free with no upload limit.

I'm 36 and I don't have a landline. Four years ago I had one briefly but everytime I wanted to make a call at home my hand automatically went to my mobile as thats where all my numbers are stored. Also whenever anyone wanted to reach me they rang my mobile. I got rid of it as the landline rental was expensive plus with the mobile I didn't need it.
I remember when I was a kid in the early '80s my Mam had to lobby a T.D. (member of parliament in Ireland) to get P&T (Post & Telegraph later Telecom Eireann now Eircom) to give us a phone. It was a big deal having a phone then, most of our neighbours didn't have one.
Here in Ireland I notice that there are fewer public telephones these days as almost everyone has a mobile. Even my Dad who is 66yrs has a mobile now.
My generation and those following us have no need for landlines. Of course you always have a few luddites holding on but they're a dying breed.:)
Yeah way better than the pod peoples players. A 4.3inch screen to check out your photos, watch movies, read text files, listen to the radio or play music encoded in mp3, ogg, flac or wav.
No crappy bloated iTunes or like software needed its just drag and drop baby. Plus it runs on Linux!!!
If you like proprietry formats and being locked in go buy a Zune or iPod. Me I'll stick with my A2.
If ALLOFMP3 is closed what will happen to their customers? Will they try and charge them with piracy? Is this even possible as no music was shared or uploaded and everything was paid for.

I've never had a problem accessing allofmp3.com. I've already spent $100 on the site and have credited it with another $200 and have had no problems with my credit card.
I read somewhere that the reason the site is so cheap to us is that its designed for Russians and their prices in roubles (is that right?) while expensive for them are dirt cheap for us once converted into dollars.
I love the site I just hope I'm not gonna wake up someday with te RIAA knocking on my door. I don't upload I just pay and download. The site is legal under Russian law so that hopefully covers me.
DRM is the reason I don't buy.WMA or shop on iTMS. The majority of my music collection (close on 200Gb) is.mp3 with a smattering of.ogg &.wma. All of which are being converted to.mp3.
Like it says in the article in an ideal world we'd all be using.ogg but unfortunately its not widely supported so that leaves MP3's as the only alternative. While it is technically a proprietry format it is the most widely used format around. You've a better chance of the.mp3 format still be used in ten years time than anything Appl or M$ throw up.
If you want to tell the music industry to stuff it. DON'T buy DRM. And push for.ogg &.flac formats to become more widely supported. Buy any music player that supports.mp3 as is and then lobby those companies to support open formats.
Appl own 70% of the world MP3 player market. Thats 70% that supports DRM, think about it. If we could persuade ppl to stop buying from iTMS and other DRM stores like HMV & Virgin they'll have no choice but to change their ways.
Never thought I'd see the day when NASA would be seeking to buy the Russian Soyuz in order to keep flying.
I think its great that NASA has to buy the Soyuz in that they are a bit a huble pie here. Wasn't that long ago that the US space program looked down on Russia & MIR. At the same time its a terrible indication of how bad things have become in NASA.
Stalin must be laughing in his casket.

Thats because if you can afford to buy a Mac its only pocket change to pick up a PC. It doesn't work the other way around.
can anyone say CNR or Linspire :)
I can't wait for this to come, gets hacked and then we can use it as an interface on our pc's :)

We have the power. We just don't realise it.
