Besides this guy and the EFF who is really fighting for fair use rights these days? The MPAA and RIAA and billions of dollars and high paid lobbyists. What do we have on our side? We can complain all we want but until we have some cold hard cash and some good organization our rights will continue to go down the toilet.
I was really concerned about the government being able to read my library records. Not that I have anything to hide, but I do value my privacy. I asked the head librarian about it and turns out her and many other librarians are fighting this tooth and nail. She said the computer was set up to only keep track of books that were checked out. Once they returned all records of them being checked out are deleted! They have the capability to keep extensive logs but choose not to due to the Patriot Act. For a small town like mine I was really impressed.
Please comment on my petition to prevent birth defects from uranium contamination.
What do you have something against super heroes? Do you like crime? Or just jealous you won't be getting any super powers from being exposed to uranium as a child? You are a sad, sad man.
When I first read the headline I honestly thought this was about Apache being ported to the Nintendo DS. It is only a matter of time before it really happens.
Now that more and more CDs are now crippled copy protected versions, will the Xbox still be able to rip them? If not maybe people might start to wake up and get angry about fair use going down the toilet. Or perhaps I live in a fantasy world.
This gradual progression of space technology is ok, but we really need to step it up a notch. And we all know the coolest tech is made during times of war. So how about it? How can we start this space war we so desperately need? Hell I will have no problem joining the army if I get a space fighter.

There is an ad on the Howstuffworks article where you can buy your own batsuit. Second page I believe.
If you're interested in cyberpunk type of gear, the internet radio show NewsReal
Reports on this sort of stuff nearly every day. A few days ago he reported on a set of augmented reality sunglasses that overlay black squares over billboards. I'm sure if it's a hoax or not though.
If it is spyware or a virus using all the bandwidth doesn't Comcast automatically detect this sort of thing and shut your connection off automatically? I know Charter cable internet does untill you fix the problem.
The problem is that with any online service you have to agree to a click through license saying they can burn down your house for fun if they feel like it and you have no legal recourse. I don't know how well these EULAs hold up in court though.
Thanks for that tutorial, it's great stuff. I'm not a hardcore video-editing expert. When I need to encode a quick piece of video I just don't want to spend hours researching how to do it in Xvid. This is why so many people encode in WMV, because it just works. I'll be passing this tutorial on to others.
Sometimes the website software is overloaded and not the hardware/bandwidth. Every time that wiki is loaded several connections back and forth are made to a Mysql server to retrieve the content. If things are not configured for a high load it could max out at a certain number of users, 100 for example.
I know very little about graphics programming. Can someone please give me a boiled down explanation of how they are making a computer monitor brighter than normal with HDR? Or is this not a hardware hack at all?
Forgive my complete lack of aircraft knowledge but does the aircraft industry in the US do much innovation on airplane designs? Current models look kind of dated. Or maybe I'm just expecting them to come out with some crazy space plane with lasers.
Damn it I'm tired of all this text crap. Where is our virtual online world where I can fly around and kill people with my ninja swords that piss me off? That's when computer security will be cool. Curse you 80's movies for misleading me!
Exactly! There is nothing wrong with paying for entertainment. As long it does not take over someone's life or involve hurting cute little kittens then who cares.
Life is about having fun. If escaping into a virtual world is your thing then go do it!
I have not played this MMORPG but have played many others. Paying for things in these games may seem insane to you. But once you get addicted and start putting in a few hours a day, $5 for the uber sword of death or some land seems very reasonable.
On the other hand it can turn the game into a "only those with more money have fun" type of thing... Well I guess they are trying to make it more like real life.

Yeah that review is huge. They should just post a copy of the book instead.

The article is very light on details.
