Mario and Zelda Cartoons on DVD
Captain Lou Albano's wild and staring eyes can once again grace your television set, with the upcoming release of the Super Mario Brothers Super Show, Mario cartoons, and Zelda cartoons. Press the Buttons has the details. From the article: "...the complete series of the 1989-90 cartoon/live action programs The Super Mario Bros. Super Show and Friday special The Legend of Zelda are headed to DVD this coming October in 4-volume and 3-volume sets respectively. A "best of" Super Mario DVD has been available for some time, but die-hard fans out there can now finish off their collections."
Super mario bros super show on Dvd....best day ever.
My life is now complete. :D
Well, excuuuuse me, Princess
I'm hoping that the sales of the Mario Show DVD are high enough to encourage some other video game based cartoons like the Starcade shorts (Donkey Kong, Q-Bert, Frogger, etc.), Pac-Man, and Captain N to get released.
Never expected to see Ron Jeremy on the page! here!
Don't blame Durga. I voted for Centauri.
Do the Mario
Sung by Lou Albano
Do the Mario!
Swing your arms from side to side,
Come on, it's time to go, do the Mario!
Take one step, and then again,
Let's do the Mario, all together now!
You got it!
It's the Mario!
Do the Mario!
Swing your arms from side to side,
Come on, it's time to go, do the Mario!
Take one step, and then again,
Let's do the Mario, all together now! Come on now, just like that!

I had no idea these even exsisted!
Back in 1989-90 I was 8 and 9, and lived in a very rural area. No cable, so we didn't watch much TV.
I LOVE TEH INTARWEEB!!!!!!
Pretty Pictures!
How can they possibly forget the Super Mario Bros. movie?! I don't think it's been released on DVD yet...
Enjoy an e-piphany
Oh wow. I remeber when I was 6 or 7 living in rural Georgia ordering these on VHS tape in the scholastic magazines we got at school. I still have about 6 or 7 of those tapes.
;)
Too bad now when I watch them it is painful animation, dialog, and situation comedy
There is nothing wrong with being gay. It's getting caught where the trouble lies.
So a while ago, Magic Johnson came to give a talk at the Rochester Institute of Technology, my alma mater. He spoke about AIDS and life and generally interesting things.
;^)
Now, most of you probably remember that he appeared in an episode of the Super Mario Brothers Super Show. (He was living in their medicine cabinet IIRC).
Magic opened the floor up to questions, and I happened to get the first one. It went something like this:
Schezar: Magic, how did it feel to make an appearance on the Super Mario Brothers Super Show?
Magic: What? Oh my god... I forgot what kind of school this was...
Schezar: I have this picture of you standing in their medicine cabinet...
Magic: Come up here! I'm going to sign that for you.
So now I have this picture, signed by Magic himself, on my wall. Just gotta get the captain to sign it and I'll have quite an artifact of power

Late Night Radio for Geeks!
I used to watch the Zelda cartoon everyday after school as a kid.. (hated the mario cartoon)...
/sigh
I had completely forgotten about it. I'll have to buy this one... my daughter will enjoy it (and so will I...heh)
on a sidenote: if these two can make it to DVD... why oh why hasn't season 1 and 2 of Sifl and Olly ever went to DVD?
"why don't you just slip into something more comfortable...like a coma!"
Noooooooooooooooooo!
Seriously, that cartoon was awful. Abysmal. Abhorrent. Actively painful to watch. And that's just the As. We're not talking normally bad, here. It's not even Eye of Argon bad. Oh, no, this is Star Wars Christmas Special bad: if you watch them, you will regret it.
I found a collection of episodes on the 'net, and as a die-hard Zelda fan, downloaded them. I want that segment of my life back. The only thing I got out of the experience was a migraine.
Learn from my mistake. Do not watch those cartoons. Go and buy a copy of Ulysses 31 instead. Trust me.
Hearing this news makes today one of my top 10 best days ever. Nothing like coming home from school as a kid and watching those along with ninja turtles and G.I. Joe. What a lineup. Can't wait to get this.
...does that mean the DVD is blank?
Anyone else remember the last season the Mario/Zelda show was on, they replaced Lou Albano and... the Luigi guy with a pair of random teenage "dudes"? I don't think the animated episodes were new, just the framing device. It was definitely a cheap ploy to cash in on the success of Bill and Ted (and maybe even Wayne and Garth). I recall it was one black kid and one white kid.
am i imagining this? was this local to Philadelphia maybe?
May you be touched by His Noodly Appendage. RAmen.
I say "Oh, suuuure. They've released the complete Legend of Zelda series on DVD (or Jem and the Holograms, or Hee-Haw, or any other really, really crappy tv series), but STILL NO PINKY AND THE BRAIN!!!"
This, my friends, is the nature of injustice.
That green slime had it coming.
Totally badical!!
Don't blame me, I voted for Cthulhu.
First downloadable NES games, now the Mario and Zelda cartoons... next thing we know, the Nintendo cereal will be back.

I've been waiting for these for a while. Now I can get rid of my old VHS copies I've had forever.
There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of animals Chuck Norris allows to live.
Wow.... I bet I can get mine signed by Cap't Lou.... he goes to the bar next to where I work... He hasn't aged well at all... but still has at least one rubber band! GO CAP'T LOU! YOU ROCK!

So I click on the story and it's on some idiots blog who links to Animated News which links to DVDToons which links TO A LISTING ON DVDPlanet! So this big story is based off of some guy noticing a website is taking preorders? I'd like to thank the slashdot editors for doing such a hard job and to think they actually get paid for this!
You can't fool me into clicking that link. It must be something like goatse.
:)
I mean, since the link doesn't point to ebay.com
Cool story, by the way.
I would support this decision! And get Mr. T to promote it!

nin-ten-do

nin-ten-do
it's a cereal, wow!
Sorry, gotta earn some obsessive nerd points. The song actually goes:
nin-ten-do
it's for breakfast now!
nin-ten-do
it's a cereal, wow!
The "nin-ten-do" part was sung to the tune of the Super Mario Brothers Level 1-2 music, while the rest was basically spoken in a sort of sing-song rhythm.
The cereal itself came in two bags in a single box, which many people mistakenly believe to have been first to Nintendo (Nerds Cereal did it first). It basically tasted like Trix. Later, it fell prey to what is almost universally accepted as the single most influential event in the 20th century: The great novelty cereal bust of 1989. Gone was the Nintendo Cereal System, gone were Sunday Funnies, gone was Ghostbusters Cereal, Nerds Cereal, and C3P-Os.
Which, as it turns out, was just as well. Seems like each bowl contained a full bottle of food coloring. People who ate Ghostbusters cereal, which was red, frequently thought they had suddenly suffered some horrible form of digestive hemmorage when they noticed a particular color change in the bathroom.
Happiness is relative, Based upon the way we live.
To those who have never seen the Zelda or Mario cartoons you can watch them for free on teh intarwebs.

MASK wasn't that great of a show either, but just seeing those laser rays the other day spun my childhood over in its grave.

I see another poster is bitching about it. At the time (I couldn't have been older than 12 or 13, mind you), my brother and I thought it was hilarious, and way better than Captain Lou.
But like so many things, I'm sure I would think it sucked if I saw it now. But I'd like to see it again to be sure...
