  1. Re:New possibilities on TSA Orders Searches of Valet Parked Car At Airport · · Score: 1

A TFA points out, the TSA aren't doing the searching; the valets are searching under order of the TSA. So, as others have mentioned, when your valuables disappear you have no recourse against the TSA for instructing the valets because "national security" and no recourse against the valet because "just following orders," and no one is generally going to own up to stealing from you. "Look, you left it there, we don't know who searched it or when, just luck of the draw"

Sure, but in the case of the two mentioned, the members of Radiohead and Trent Reznor are all pretty adept at studio work, so there's a lot less spent hiring sound guys, producers, etc, when you can do it yourself. If you've got the money (which they do), then time/labor isn't really an issue either since you can rely on saved cash to get by while you do it your way. Not saying this will always be the case, but generally, if you can do it yourself at a fraction of the cost you would face going through an agency, you'd probably walk off in the black no problem (assuming too that your music is good and you can find a fanbase).

This this this. Working with Oracle was very interesting at a few years back. Odd things, like not being able to do a LIMIT, OFFSET in an easy mannor (read: any way but LIMIT, OFFSET) was so strange - the DBAs explained it as something to do with how Oracle manages row count and the uncertainty of the rows returned? idk, it's been a while. They did give us a way around...but, I digress.

Flashbacks are nasty cool - the way I understand it, as I was only watching the dev who about two hours before had hosed a production database, is that you can SELECT INTO FROM a point in time. We had a DBA on the line who walked him through the flashback, and before we knew it, the DB was back to the state it was in hours before.

HOWEVER. Go with Postgres. Stick with Postgres. No reason to shell out all that cash for licenses, and Postgres is powerful enough to do just about anything you need it to, imho.

Put it in graphs, in a spreadsheet, make a chart, whatever you need to in order for your new director to understand where the budget goes. But, if you don't know yourself, you can't defend your stance. Itemize it and break it down, learn where all that $$$$ goes so you can prove that it goes somewhere worthwhile - if it doesn't, propose to cut it, and make changes where you can. You don't have to hit the 50% if you can convince him/her that 1) you aren't wasting money and 2) you can find places to help save money.

Like a good resume: don't just say what you do or how you do it, but explain why and how it helps the company. "We use these clusters for the larger computations" vs "We use these clusters for larger computations, which save us 30% on time and help boost productivity compared to when we didn't have them" yadda yadda.

    - iPhone 5

    - iPod touch 32GB/64GB

So, 3 phones, 2 iPods, 3 iPads. Considering the oldest phone came out in, what, 2010? Not bad, and quite expected. Being able to upgrade, no worry, to the latest iOS on my phone from back then is wonderful. No rooting, no unlocking, no futzing or worrying about deciding to keep supporting my hardware so I don't have to shell out for a new contract and/or phone every 2 years. In contrast, my girlfriend's Xperia X10 came out around the same time as the iPhone 4 - I spent nearly a month rooting, unlocking, restarting, repeating. We're semi-stable on CM10 with the latest kernel, and it's still super flakey. The stock OS is horrid - no control on stock apps, the theme is super heavy on resources, and Sony has not and probably never will offer any kind of upgrade through official channels. My Nook Color will never see a decent Android update. I have friends at work who, even with the technical knowhow, will absolutely not root or unlock their Android devices because of the hassle and the fear - despite having capable hardware, they'll be in 2.x land forever or until they upgrade. Buy the newest iPhone? You'll be solid on updates for at least 3 years, period.
