Works great in Photoshop and Zbrush.

  2. Re:open street map? on Open US GPS Data? · · Score: 1

I used to work for the Government as a cartographer. One issue with commercial based maps are the copyright controls. in order to keep competitors from stealing their work they purposely add or subtract roads. They know where the mistakes are and use them for copyright reference. on the other hand this is whats causes allot of trouble with GPS routers. One fix is to add a flag to the line data that could flag this and fix tons or routing trouble GPS devices have been having. Examples can be used for tonnage limits, rural routes, narrow streets, and low bridges. But because most maps are created using satellite or air photography overlays, that info is left out.

The U.S. Census Bureau's, Geography Dept. is in charge of creating and sourcing U.S. GIS maps. Most map's are updated during the census period when there are enumerator staff on location to send new road information. Some info is updated yearly when cities, and counties may update annexed land.

Files are created to be compatible with ArcView software and are free to download. Free maps are old, and can be as old as the last Census. In March, 2008 the Census Bureau will make the 2007 TIGER/Line Shapefiles available to the public. File formats include:
    ARC/INFO EXPORT (.e00) format
    ArcView Shapefile (.shp) format
    ARC/INFO Ungenerate (ASCII) format.
These are NOT photographic maps, they have the look and feel of your standard GPS maps. They can be found here: http://www.census.gov/geo/www/tiger/tiger2006se/tgr2006se.html

This info is compatible with ArcGIS, But with the Ascii file its possible to create a opensource editor. I was using government software created to run under linux.

Its a bad day when it becomes a crime to make, build, or design anything that could be used for crime, but a good day for criminals. Criminals naturally dont follow rules, its only the law abiding that wll suffer.

In a Age where more money is spent on sports and less on academics its no wonder there is a brain drain in the US. I live in a town that worships college sports over anything else, ranking in the lower 45 states in quality education. Even now there is talk about city and state spending for another new arena, parks, and golf courses. Throwing a ball into a hoop will never cure cancer, allthough the income from sports can bring in new equipment, after the pay there coach 10X's what the nearest professor is getting. I have allways thought they should seperate sports, make them a industry on there own, fill there own ranks with potential stars. In effect the private sport schools could make money on venues and fund there own students, and possibly drive down the cost of regular academic education. In the end the States have to set its prioities where they belong, in allmost every state run university there is ongoing promotion of sports, while you barly see anything about there education. We have allmost fanatical parets push kids into sports and send the wrong message, there are more jobs out there then sporting contracts.

Im sure that some GPS hardware would integrate well with GIS software on a laptop. at least marking stuff on Lat and lon scales, road layouts can be inserted by hand, and some sattlite maps could help.

This is all reactionary responses, FBI is a reactionary force, in all its history how many people did they catch BEFORE the crime was commited? How many changes would have to be made untill the FBI became Proactive? What needs to be dont is better assesment of what your trying to secure, and what the FBI is trying to do puts them one step behind the terrorist.
