Well, I kinda doubt that he'd just laugh, on the grounds that: a) he was one of the greatest physisicsts who ever lived, and so would doubtless find QM quite interesting b) he was also a bit mad, and so would doubtless find QM quite interesting
Gawd, didn't I answer this like a year ago the first time this story appeared? OK, I'll do it again. There are 2 very good reasons to port Linux to the ipod:
1) A certain class of frankly disturbed (and disturbing) class of people find it fun to port Linux to strange hardware. Well, it's better than Sudoku.
2) If you put Linux on the iPod it means you can put software on that Apple aren't going to bother with, because they are market driven. For example, Apple know that Ogg support isn't worth the effort of implementing it to them because it will only lead to a few hundred extra sales; but Joe Linuxporter has about three terrabytes of Ogg files already ripped, so it's worth the effort to him to make an Ogg decoding ipod.
I suggest buying a cheap copy of a Dickens novel, working out where the split was when it was originally printed in serial form, and taking a knife to it.
Let's see, Google tells me that most of his novels were sold in 20 parts, with the last one being double-sized.
... in the UK it is normal for your Member of Parliament to be available to the public one day a week for a consultation - called constituency surgeries - perhaps I should go and pester Boris!
Well, try a firewall specific distro then, such as m0n0wall. It's excellent, basically FreeBSD with everything cut out but the firewall. Link is http://m0n0.ch/wall, and I'm sure there are plenty of other hardened distros.
If manufacturer Z makes drivers for product y for OSX on Intel (which is of course based on Darwin), does that have any impact on Intel drivers for Linux for y?
If a driver is available for Darwin, even if it is a closed binary, could a layer be built to make it work on Linux, since Darwin is open source?

Why not have all the ones on one side blow in, and then wire the other side's fans to be not fans but turbines. Then it could power itself! Easier than a laptop battery.
OK, that's a crap joke, but in this story that makes it as good as Chaplin.
This is part of my idea too, at times there is a need for PM and LM to re-negotiate, with the corresponding hit on the project plan.
BTW, watch out here too for #8, "Obsession with Due Date". Due dates are not always as important for a project as people think. People like hanging a date on things and then measuring the project by how far away that date is, but in real life projects are often not vitally time-bound.
Well, actually a subtle blend of old favorites. Let me consult my reference document on "the 25 reasons projects fail".
Well, this is mostly #11, "plan over-estimates resource" and #14 "responsibilities unclear". Your actual question, of course, reveals that you are also suffering from #7, "Planning tools are unwieldy" since you are asking for a tool to fix your problem for you, instead of fixing it. Project managers always over-rely on their tools.
What you need to do is to have proper negotiations between the two critical players, the Project Manager and the Line Manager. This should be both easy and hard, since it sounds like you are both of these people.
Definition: Project Manager is in charge of the project, and the Line Manager "owns" the resources the PM needs to do the project. What must happen is a negotiationbetween PM and LM where LM agrees to give a certain ammount of the resource to the PM. This has to be stuck to - although it can be hard.
So, you as LM have to say to you as PM, "I can give you three days a week of my boys. I can't giv e you 5 days, sorry, because all these small urgent projects pop up all the time." As LM, you have worked out how much time on average you need your boys for the firefighting.
Then, you as PM, can use you planning tools and work out how long it is going to take, given that you have only 3 days resource a week.
If a Mac could run the handful of Windows only programs I need (in addition to generic apps) to do my job, exactly what arguments could my boss use to stop me buying one?
As many have observed, the cockpit part of this case is right next to the user's genitalia, so I rather imagine you do hear a "WOOOOOOOAIINNNNNNNNNNNNNN" when it overheats....
Well, I'm very very drunk now, but at the time I had only had a pint of carlsberg and probably the crapest cheese and ham toastie in the world - (c) the mitre pub in hatton garden - so I definitely hist F12, not Fn+F12
I happened to be passing London today and popped into Apple's flagship store. All very nice, but I idly hit F12 in order to bring up dashboard on one of the Powerbooks - 15" or 17" I think - and it was sloooooow.
Now, this could be down to a dozen factors, and it only slightly deflated my ambition to own a nice shiny mac - perhaps a macmini - but it wasn't a good thing, that's for sure.
I know this is totally off-topic, but isn't "night time security guard and computer tech" just the best job description for a sa you've heard in a long time?
I've looked at code before now and found it beautifully elegant. Ditto mathematics for that matter.

Well, thing is, it's 2005 now and while she is still the Queen, he's appearing on I'm a Celebrity get me out of here....
Hell, I think there's only about 4 of you who've used the calendar.

Hmmm, can't see Boris having too much influence with the US senate, but it's worth a try I guess...

I'm not so much thinking of a recompile, since for closed binary drivers you won't have source, but of a layer between the drivers and the kernel....

Did you know Nokia license Series 60 to other manufacturers? Info is at http://www.series60.com/products
The Sendo is a lovely device - I have a small issue with it, otherwise I'd be using it right now - and the Panasonics look quite good too.

http://www.equipped.org/ has lots of detailed reviews of thiss sort of tool.
Fair enough. Oh, should I have mentioned that I had set fire to the apple store before I started?
Ahhh, that's what I wanted, a reason for Macs not to suck, thanks!
