So when will there be a site available so I can see how my college ranked based upon what I deem to be the most important?
US News could take this, print their magazine, then offer this "service" on their site, run by ad revenue to really give the student a run for their money when applying for a college.
Does this mean we're now one step closer to virtual reality fps games?
So i can take on my friends in Halo, and actually have to run around to do anything instead of just sit on my couch and move my thumbs?
rock on! sign me up. i _want_ one...
I've been digitizing my parents records since I started high school in 1999. I don't spend every waking hour on this, but I've found a few gem. Plus, when I listen to music that is hot now, many of the same "beats/instrumentals" have been taken from these old songs.
There is a lost history of these old records out there, you can find the same albums on amazon but they've been re-mastered and put together differently. this guy is awesome.. and I will continue my conversion.
This would be nice, I said F' it and just dropped mac filtering + 128 bit encryption on my wireless. Although, I would like to see atleast half my neighbors end up in jail for stealing my internet.
I work for the U.S. Government, and I find while I wait for the computer to process the information (using a dual g5) I usually have to wait about 45 minutes per video file i'm working on. In a given day I complete 8 - 20 dvd Videos depending on how quickly Final Cut Pro HD can process information. Infact, in the midst of writing this I had to set another file up to render.
But what it comes down to in the end of the day, I get my work done. I've been told that I do more work over a summer(I'm a summer student) then most employee's do in a year. I'm constantly being told to "lower my standards" and to not "work as hard". Studies like these can only really work if you're in a business where you don't see your employees getting done everything they're assigned to do in a certain period of time. Then it is lost work productivity and yes it would make sense.
I used to be a CS major (2 years ago), I've since changed to Communication (i know its cheap by/easy but its fun). I'm finding even though I'm not majoring in comp-sci, i'm still doing comp-sci like tasks for work (web design).
Of my incoming class of engineers, we had 60 to start in the fall of 2003, now there are barely 25 still in the program who are still studying comp sci. Every year many people come in but don't stay in the program due to loss of interest or the realization that they don't want to spend the rest of their lives programing.
i've done a few sites in mambo and i love it. i came from postnuke, the themes/templates were difficult to make and managing the site was a pain in my @$$. Granted mambo doesn't have the core development help site like postnuke does with all their "PN" sections, mambo has a ton of people always available to help out on your projects. As a question and it will be answered within a few hours or a day. All the core files are easily modified and there are tons of modules.
On the upside, you'll have some daytime electricity during power failures
This is not exactly true. if you're tied into the grid in such a way so that your meter spins backwards, if the power goes out, your solar will go into the grid but you won't be powering your house with the solar that you produce. The giant pull that then happens on your solar grid won't be able to support all your neighbors and such so your house will go out to.
I have solar on my house, a 4.5 kW system and its sure nice to have it, we used to pay about $250 a month in electrical bills, now we pay about $15 in a yearly bill(electricity only, not gas).
On top of that I guess I could also say that my dad sells solar panels for a living now, mostly doing big businesses and he's finding that a company who spends ~ $25,000 a month on electricity is jumping to solar as their bill drops to about $1,000 a month on solar. Its all something to think about. its worth it, plus you help the environment, and it gets paid off in about 3 years.
"Hoodlum, Vengeance"
Those are popular in the pc game industry, when i saw centropy in the list i shouted out a "no!!!" my boss came in my office and was like "what!, what happened?!?!"
The writer of that article seems to have lost his geek funk. I say this because even though I wasn't there I was still impressed with the scientifical items that I have seen from pictures on a few different websites.
For instance, look at this, its called the http://www.ledmonthly.com/content/view/55/81/ VeinViewer which will look through your skin and find your veins. The ONLY reason why I don't give blood anymore at the red-cross is because the people getting to my blood are horrible at finding the vein.
I may be alone when I say that I'd like a pillow that when I squeeze it, the other one of the pair lights up showing the user that you're thinking about them. Maybe I'm the only geek who likes women (god I hope not), but the http://www.ledmonthly.com/content/view/51/80/ Interactive Pillows will surely end up on my bed someday. Especially now that I can't get her out of my head.
There are so many inventions that were brought up at the nextfest, I think the writer of that article has lost his funk and is a downward spiral of absolute zero creativeness, and thats sad.
If its only 5 megs a month, then i guess with my hosting i could easily host some 10k blogs. Wooo the possibilities.
Is there a central site somewhere to "sign up" to be available to be a blog host?
... what?
Sarah? Is that you, you're not making any sense.
AGAIN!
So when will there be a site available so I can see how my college ranked based upon what I deem to be the most important?
... that is if they can afford it.

hopefully their servers will be able to handle the number of connections... unlike apples' did on the day the iphone 3g came out...
working in a sanitary district is great money. thnk GOVERNMENT JOB!

I will admit though, during the time that I'm waiting I read all the important news sites (http://www.cnn.com/, http://www.wired.com/, http://www.slashdot.org/, http://news.google.com/) and then I find myself editing websites (http://www.ethereallan.org/,http://www.ledmonthly .com/, and 3 other webprojects I'm working on). Then I'm off to check my e-mail at the numerous different sites that I've managed to get email for myself.

I wish i could have gone to the nextfest. I had to work though, I'm also an avid reader of wired.com. I'd like to see the video too!
