I am so sick of hearing this type of crap that Microsoft (what, you can't spell "s"?) is responsible for every single piece of botnet or exploit on the internet. You know, Linux/Unix machines can be "rooted" as well - to the same or more devastating effect...

However, like with /([A-Za-z]?)nix/, Windows can be quite secure in the hands of one who knows what they're doing. In my 10 years of using Windows, I've never had a virus or trojan infect a machine under my direct control. Any virus would fail to pass the ISA Firewall (yes, that's MICROSOFT's Firewall software) as the antivirus (granted, third party) would block it from being retransmitted to the requesting machine. Client machines are on a completely seperate subnet behind a Sonicwall firewall (though even a cheapo device can achieve this same result), and outbound SMTP is allowed ONLY to the Mail Exchanger on the other side of the firewall. This setup is not really all THAT hard to do... if you wanted to save money you'd swap the ISA for a Fedora/Debian/Ubuntu/Insert Distribution Here (Solaris?) machine with maybe Squid or something, but the net effect is the same - the client machines are SAFE.

Cool, thanks I'll go out and tell my grandma to get right on that.

I don't think anyone is saying that windows CANNOT be made secure, I think the point it, it takes some kind of super-genuis like yourself to figure it out. If that wasn't the case, then the world would have a lot less zombie machines and C1AL15 and V1a6ra sales would tank. Am I wrong?

The biggest problem I see with this, is that is wasn't Apple who wanted the DRM in the first place. It was the music industry. Now that the iPod and iTunes has taken off, all the also-rans are crying. I'm sure Apple is loving the outcome, but again it wasn't them requesting the DRM scheme. And from what I can gather FairPlay is a little less evil than PlayForSure.

And to be quite honest, I'm sick and tired of not being able to sync my phone, manage MS-SQL databases, dealing with Banks that require IE for online banking, etc.

Apple offered a solution that works, and it works on all platforms. So the only draw-back is that your locked in to using an iPod?!?! Hell, the have 3 versions of the damn thing, there's a gazillion accessories for it, so what's the problem?

MicroSoft, Sony, Dell, HP, Verizon, Bank of America, etc. doesn't seem to give a rats as about me, and I get to hear "Well it was your choice" all the time. Suck it up Norway, if you don't like the business model, don't buy the damn thing.

My guess, is that the phone is going to be hackable, especially if it's running OS X. I read one article which Apple was saying the big reason they are not allowing 3rd software on there for now is to protect Cingulars network. They don't want people writing some software that can hack/break the network. I'm sure this was more of a Cingular concern than Apples.

Anyway, it's 6 months away, so who really knows what's going to be on there. The only thing we can really talk about is what we saw and what they said it could do. I think the "No 3G" is my biggest dissappointment, but that's just me.

It wasn't even a blip on the radar, RIAA was to worried about piracy and locking up there product. Do you really think the music companies would have signed on with Apple knowing what they know now. Of course not, they are totally screwed because one company has such a large chunk of the market and they no longer have any room to negotiate. I doubt that Apple if realized it at first, only when the iPod started taking off and eating up the market share did they start smiling.
