Honest question here. Why is gallons/100 miles preferable? It's always seemed backwards and clumsy to me.

With gal/100mi, it's more complicated to figure out how much gas you need to go X miles (with miles/gallon, it's simply X/mileage), and it also provides a more useful number when comparing cars. Sure, Car A might need 2.5 gallons/100mi and Car B needs 3 gallons/100mi, but that tells you less about the actual mileage (40 vs. 33.33).

You don't read several hundred pages in one sitting on an Ipad or similar devices, its just painful. And a book shouldn't need to be recharged every couple of days. E-ink readers and their month-long battery life (if you have a kindle, remember to turn off wifi =P) is the way to go.

More anecdotal evidence, but anyways... After having the iPad for nearly two months, and reading about 8,000 pages worth on it (I'm going off of the print length of the books I've read), I can say that I have experienced no eye strain whatsoever. Or headaches. In fact, it's actually more comfortable than a real book or a Kindle (which I also have), thanks to the fact it's always perfectly lit. I sometimes get headaches reading real books, actually, due to lighting and other factors (though this is rare).

I used to be against ebooks, but the iPad converted me in a way the Kindle couldn't (even though I thought its display was neat). Of course, I'm cheating a bit; I buy the paper books, then find the .epubs via Bittorrent.

I'll agree that battery life can be annoying, but my routine is usually to read for two days (on weekdays), then recharge while I'm sleeping. Or read for one day and recharge at night on the weekends. If I know I won't be able to charge it, I'll bring a paper book.

Heh. We're talking about gamers here. These are the same people who say that wireless controllers are too slow, that 5ms monitors are too slow, and that a 1-frame lag in Street Fighter 2 totally kills their game--even though all these things are all demonstrably quicker than their reflexes or visible acuity. Imagine how they'll react to something like OnLive?

I think the service would get less bad press if it didn't have games that required fast-twitch reactions, such as FPSs. Sure, you might get less subscribers because those games aren't available, but there'd be less angry people, I'll wager.

I'm sure the theaters have some kind of agreement with the studios to prevent the exact thing I'm about to suggest--but if the theaters have to give basically all the ticket sales to the studios, it'd be interesting to see what would happen if a theater decided to start selling tickets dirt cheap. Keep the concessions at their outrageous prices, but sell tickets for $4 or so.

I bet that your friends neglect or abuse their consoles. If you look in the manual, it says that you aren't supposed to use the console for extended periods of time (which is something like 3 or 4 hours), set them on carpet, enclose them inside cabinets etc etc. Everyone knows these units heat up...mitigate it.

You call him troll, then accuse all his friends of being console abusers. And, I'm sorry, if playing a console for more than 4 hours at a time is overuse, then the 360 is a really embarrassing console. Especially when you consider the PS3 survived a sauna.

Whether its pooing on a triple-A title to generate a shitstorm (and boost ad impressions) or passing off poo as pure gold to appease their advertisers.

I agree the media is obnoxious as hell (so are, well, most gamers), but they seem more forgiving of change, even if it's crap change, than fans of a series will. But, it seems like the video game media likes (and praises) innovation quite a bit, which could be why the developers do it. The fans will be upset no matter what, but at least they can try to get the media on their side, regardless of whether the innovations in question are any good.
