I love how you assume that is even remotely possible. Its not like people are going to blithely accept something like that. There is a phrase that Charlton Heston used, that rings very true with a lot of gun owners. 'they can pry it from my cold dead fingers'.
I'm not advocating such a thing, but if you send people to take other peoples property, you're going to get back a lot of corpses, no matter what country they live in.
this is why I keep saying that bamboo is the key. It is a fast growing plant (which moves carbon from the environment to the plant quickly) that can be processed into a wide range of material goods (lumber, textiles, paper, etc). This allows us to trap carbon, and then *use* the carbon for things we need, vs pumping it into the ground, or storing it in jars, or what have you.
you missed the part of the article where it mentions that oxygen is required for decomposition, in properly constructed heaps, oxygen content is so low that decomposition fails to occur, thus sequestering the carbon. They are not trying to make coal/oil (however if the stacks are undisturbed long enough that would happen, just not in our lifetimes) They are just trying to keep the carbon out of the cycle. Granted, the idea does have its flaws, but its not so blatantly stupid as you would like it to be.
Actually, I recall an article on/. a few years back talking about a new Apple patent for a monitor where every 4th pixel was a sensor. The idea at the time was that all the input could be compiled, and the entire screen was your camera, thus ending the whole 'looking away from the camera in video chat because you are looking at the screen' and a plethora of other uses. Aha, here's the article. from over 4 years ago: http://hardware.slashdot.org/story/06/04/26/1536212/Apples-All-Seeing-Screen
and the net result is it looks like a video game. I mean seriously, did anyone else notice that? the lighting range looks like something from a game, not quite full-bright, but the shadows just seem.. wrong.
backside culling. (anything the camera cant see at that moment, does not get drawn) a very basic principle in rendering complex objects (or lots of objects) quickly.
You know, with how pervasive social networking is these days, and how poorly educated a lot of the public seems to be about how the legal system works, I have to say that I am surprised that this has not happened sooner. It was bound to happen eventually. Personally, i think that the punishment should be a little steeper than 250$ and an essay. This is the sort of behavior that needs to be nipped in the bud, set a proper example, and really show that this sort of thing will not be tolerated.
brain skipped over the %. i'd still like some documentation, not a sweeping 'google it' argument. its not my responsibility to back up your arguments, its yours.
the fact that the US is over 6 times larger and have over 6 times the population of any given European country would *Obviously* have *nothing* to do with that.
ok, you win, thats the most awesome idea so far. A totally virtual display of infinite possible dimension would be fantastic. Only problem is that you need more than one headset available if you need to show people something. (that or a normal monitor that reflects where you are looking)
same stuff they layer onto your car's windshield to make it safety glass. watch the myth-busters episode about tornados throwing 2/4's. some of the laminates (which are flexible plastics) can withstand the force of a 2x4 traveling insane speeds and not rip/break. a simple layer of this on both sides would make the display nigh-indestructible for most users.
Now that they can make pixels so small that they can only be singled out from distances closer than my eyes can focus, they can finally put some effort into making.. i got nothing, i don't see the point of this.
not *quite* you could still get say, 40 megapixels. A very basic HDR picture is the combination of 3 ranges, so if you took your base picture on one pixel, and the bracket range on the pixels to its left and right, (i'm generalizing here of course, the tech would not be THAT simple) the output is a 40MP picture with a dynamic range 3x what you would get with a standard 40MP camera. the fact that your saying "get good dynamic range" shows that you don't know much about the subject. Normal cameras simply *don't* have dynamic range, they take photos of a very narrow range of light, based on your film shutter speed, etc. basically, a camera that automatically got ANY dynamic range, is an improvement towards being able to capture true to eye/life images.
heck, with where you are, you can make your own solar water heater. A black plastic 55 gallon drum mounted on your roof, and BAM, hot water 350 days out of the year. sure, you can get more complex than that, but it works.
so let me get this straight. You are advocating action that leads to there being only one company delivering each product? One company that makes videogames, One company that sells gasoline, One company that makes bread, One company that makes Rubber Duckies, Etc? No Competition?
I'm assuming that you are playing devils advocate here, because If you're not, then you must not be familiar with what happens to consumers when single companies get monopolies on a product. That, and your retarded.
the reason I went with the quonset is the arch shape, i figure if i'm going to be putting that kind of weight on it, arches are the way to go, not flat roofs (like shipping containers) The marine paint is a good idea though.

They are building it because they are curious about fusion.
as it was once said. "Curiosity killed everyone in a 15 kilometer radius".
Personally, I consider that to be animal abuse. Put the poor thing on a diet, so he can go back to living like a real cat.

i agree with 1 and 3, but you need to read this: http://usa.mediamonitors.net/Headlines/Confounding-Patriotism-and-Bigotry-in-Post-9-11-America
thats it, i cant take it anymore. I have to ask, Your sig, are you being facetious, sarcastic, or sincere? Because i can't tell.
seaweed != algae in my book.
Agreed. Because obviously nothing is going to go wrong eating home grown pond scum.

If you reach the end of your life without scars on your soul, then you have lead a life not worth living.

Yes, but on the other hand, piss off you pedantic bastard.

mona lisa's eyebrows either where removed by an overzealous art restorer trying to clean the painting, or faded due to a lower quality pigment. http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/10/17/monalisa.mystery/index.html *gets ready to be wooshed*
