Actually I think this could only help the users in the end, although it's more likely to do nothing.
As the summary pointed out there's not really any new functionality being added. You can currently do the same things with javascript or funny redirects. This will actually increase the privacy users can control. It's possible to disable this ability, or at worst view the source code. With other methods like javascript it's quite possible that it would very difficult to see though viewing the source (if events were dynamically assigned with the DOM) and not many people have the time and technical expertice to browse the web with the DOM inspector.
My main problem with this is that it is non standard and doesn't really seam like it's work the code that would take to implement the feature.
Your forgetting that few desisions in IT are made by the users. Or even with then nessisarily in mind. If my parents had they're wish they would have stuck with windows 98 -- the idea of a multi user OS is confusing to them. Whenever I'm on look at they're computer they have things all over the drive in the wierdest places. Then they complain that they have a hard time backing things up.
Anyways, my point is that people don't have to want want Vista. It will come whether they like it not. Probably though the next time they buy a computer, or else though some coporate mandate done by some self-important IS Manager.
To correct an error in my post above this, I meant 'batch' not 'bash'. Silly typo. However, I thing it's a bad idea to call it DOS and I get annoyed when people do. Techinally it's not DOS, DOS is an OS, the command line is just an interface to the OS. They may look the same, but that's only on the outside. Saying they're the same is like saying Windows 2000 and ME are the same.
I definitely agree with you, though, that the shell is very lame.
In other words, DRM is ok, if it doesn't work! Then, apart from foolling all those management types, what's the point. Apples DRM is very easy to bypass.
Yes, but it depends on what you mean by a free market. Captialist see it as a market free from government control. Socialists see it as a market free from control by large, rich, corporations. Obviously both are bad. I'm of the opion that corporations are actually worse because in our democratic process the goverment has to have a decent level of transparency, while corporations are essentially totalitarian systems with a strict top-down hierarchy.
Corporation, n. An ingenious device for obtaining individual profit without individual responsibility.
I'm not sure why google are doing this, unless they're getting paid (in money or some other way) by the producers of the software...
It has to do with mind share. There are 2 ways to control people: love and fear. Google tries to get people to love them, MS works mostly out of fear. One of the great ways to get people to love you is by giving away other peoples stuff. As Machiavelli said: be sparing with your own wealth but liberal with others'
IIRC, wine is run chrooted so expoits for windows apps can't affect the non-wine portions of your system. The worst that could happen is that some of you windows apps are exploited. If this happens just remove everthing from your 'fake windows' directory or what ever and reinstall you windows apps.
Apart from that, wine does do things differently from MS Windows, so it's quite likely the exploit won't even work. But that wizardy is way beyond me.
No. Just because something is derivative doesn't mean it's bad. Linux is derivitave of Unix, but to say that's it's inferiour to Unix (whatever that is) would be foolish or at least uniformed. I'm not a fan of Christian Rock (I don't like rock) either, but flaming other people for their taste in music is lame.
And also, Christians have nothing to do with MS. In fact, our gospel is copyleft (second sentance):P
I'm no OS guru either but I don't believe that rewriting everything is a good idea. They're still going to have to maintain backwards compatibility, there's no way around that. In addition rewriting something of that scale would be a lot of work, work that would probably be better spent on auditing things they already have.
While what you said is true to an extent, it's almost entirely Off-Topic. The NSA doesn't have anything to hide. A cookie is not all that amazing. It's true that cookies are a sometimes food but the fact that people get worked up over this is quite retarded.
While as a rule I would agree with you - I don't think *everything* the've ever done is evil. Remember - they were one of the groups largely responsible for the Mozilla project and they still fund it.
B is probably the reason more than anything else. It's amazing how many people pirate things of here (the Philippines). It's so bad that it's actually quite difficult to buy legal copies (the nearest place I know of is a couple hour drive away).
It's really unfortunate too. If piracy wasn't so rampant than more people would give Linux a try over here. As it is people just by the pirated copy of the latest MS OS, viruses and all.
But that implies creationism. Slashdot told me that Creationists are nothing but stupid people trying to slow the advancement of science. What am I to think:(
Wouldn't it make more sense to use -a instead of -p? It skips a line of code plus you don't have to recalculate the deps if you do want to emerge world.

Slightly old, but good:

Apparently yes.
But there's still no word yet as to whether or not they're human coders.

DVD had encryption (CSS), but AFAIK, there was no DRM. And encryption was easyly broken. A DRM system will not be easily broken though.

Yes, but usually you can through your chesse in the rubish without worrying about it comming back to haunt you.
Not only that, but the error page has you reload it every 10 seconds.
If people leave it open in a spare tab and ignore it. The site might be down for quite a while

I hope the Exoskeleton isn't run on VBScript too.

Ahem, that should be 'Anything Involving GNU/Stallman'

Yes, but a better language will force you to use it correctly.
I'm not trying to be funny or anything.

I hate to make such an analogy, but this sounds exactly what Boromir said in The Lord of the Rings. Using evil for good is a very dangerous thing.
