So when a black person is hired its primarily to satisy a quota? Where I live such quotas are Illegal. I might also point out that if you think Black people (or anybody else) have an easier time finding a job than White Men you are living in a bubble
Really? Where do you live? If it's in the US, you're wrong. Affirmative Action anyone? I work with a guy that can barely speak english, I sit in a cube next to him. Whenever a manager comes over to talk to him, he has to speak as if he's talking to a child. Let me tell you, this person was not white. Hmmm, so just how exactly does a person that can barely communicate get hired when there are definately many, many, eligible people in the Atl area? I'll give you a hint, it's not because he writes good HTML.
Ya, I'll never understand the people who go to take shit and first wipe the seat down and then put one of the covers on... and when done they walk right out of the bathroom without washing their hands. Makes me think they eat with their asses.
And no I'm not spying on people in the bathroom, just taking a shit in the other stall.
Well, you can start by going to the link in my sig, here are all of the bands on there. They, along with other sites like it, are mainly jam bands and the like, however. I live in Atlanta, and I have a friend that plays in a local band in Athens, Full Fathom Five. They have links on that site where you can download their whole cd for free!
It is, in fact, VERY different from the old times.. You're right, you could copy your tapes and record off the radio... but... with the whole internet thing, the situation has been blown wide open.
I mean, how many people could/would you distribute your copied tapes to? You still have to go through all the trouble of copying the audio, buying the tapes.. I bet if you wanted to you would give your friends a tape and it would travel down the line (your friends give it to their friends and so on). That takes incredible long, meanwhile the tapes' audio quality are suffering greatly.
Here comes the internet, more specifically we can use Kazaa as an example. Thousands and thousands of people can get what you copied in a matter of hours. I hope you can tell the difference now. And you can also note that Napster is what really started alot of the major actions by the RIAA.
For further reading you can try this article on what has been coined the darknet.
Although I wouldn't call losing todays pop music a grievous loss, or even progress to begin with, I would have to add that most music talent I've seen has been very open with their music. Hopefully their legacy will continue while todays pop has been long gone. One can only hope.
I couldn't agree with you more. I don't know why so many people think there will be no more good music if musicians don't make the small amount of money they do now on CD sales. Who's the dumbass that thinks they are going to make the big bucks by being a rock star? Where's the money in 'sex, drugs and rocknroll'? I remember we used to call those people sellouts. Do it for the love of music people!
No obvious path? Do you not know a single person that is in a local band? My friends would be ecstatic if you just listend to their music. Not all artists sold out to the RIAA, and they seem to be able to make money.. Granted, this money is not as much as they'd be making as a pop band, but that's never stopped the _good_ musicians. It's odd now anyway, the shitty ones get payed top dollar (I'm sorry if I offend any early teens reading).
But I do agree with your first statement, I just hope the RIAA's main source of income does not become court settlements.
The companies also must be careful about new business models for distributing games -- such as games-on-demand -- so as not to alienate game publishers, who still rely heavily on in-store sales
Hrm, I always thought it was the publisher's duty to distribute the game. Not only that but uh, isn't Microsoft a major game publisher? If other publishing companies want to stick with in-store sales, then let them. I don't see why they wouldn't get added revenue from online distribution. Maybe I'm missing something.
But I think online distribution will be great for developers. They don't have to sell out to a major publisher for their game to hit store shelves, now they can distribute their game over the net(don't have to pay for a box or shipping either).
I don't get this games-on-demand thing either. This isn't cable tv. I personally like how Valve will be getting a constant revenue. They're simply going to release a part in a series of games over Steam, for about 20 bucks. Then in a month or so you buy the next part in the series. I think the first game they're going to be doing is Sin, if any of you remember that game.
I'd have to agree with you. I play online multiplayer games for the added difficulty in a human opponent, the chat and stuff is an added plus. But that's no reason to not add new chat features and the like. Awhile ago when I played StarCraft 24/7 I loved to get into clans and become friends with the people I was playing with. Now, this wasn't the reason I ever started playing on bnet, but their chat rooms added that extra aspect in the game.
Even more recently I played Tribes 2. You can tell by the name this game is clan-oriented. The clan feature was built into the game via an in-game browser, email, IRC, and official invites to the clan (the clan tags were also built into the game). I thought that was great idea, and I played that game for years because of the social interaction.
So I guess my point is, games get old and boring, but a gaming community will extend its time.
The ones that annoy the hell outa me are those Vonage commercials... "woo hoo, woo hoo hoo, woo hoo, woo hoo hoo".. and on and on and on. It should be considered a crime against humanity. The sad thing is, they never so much as mention wtf they do! what is it some voip service or something? What a huge waste of time and money for everyone.
Thats great you play games with your son. I find the Civ series very interesting, you can learn alot about history by simply playing the game (as i'm sure you know). I also like Alpha Centauri, which instead of covering mainly past technologies it reaches out to some possible future technologies. I think they're very well thought out and also fairly balanced.
Computer games do make for good ice breakers too (keep in mind, guys, this is not true for women). I love talking about computer games with friends, and how we play the game differently. Like how my friend plays as a medic in RTCW and revives his teammates only to TK them immediately when they get up. He likes airstrikes too, for similar reasons. Ohhh friendly fire, gotta love it.
I couldn't agree with you more. I play Counter Strike Source ALOT, and finally forced my girlfriend to play it. Big mistake, i know, but now we play together all the time. So much so, I got her a different computer to play on. Not only that, but I got my little brother and dad to play from their home, so now we all get some game time together on a server. Good times, good times.
When did I say they meant something?
Intel has been concentrating on everything BUT processor fequency for some time now.
Thats why they came up with the PR rating instead of just showing off the clock speed.
OooooOOoo I see you've actually read up this time! But they're still doing the same old same old: nothing really new, just shrinking the core, raising the frequency, and for those Extreme users: a bigger cache! ooo yay! It's cool though, AMD will give them something to copy.
Wait a sec, what in God's name are you talking about? To bring you up to date on the conversation, we're talking about AMD vs Intel processors and dell.
Couldn't agree with you more. I actually clicked the link to look at the benchmarks. Then I thought, Intel EE = $$$ and immediately closed the page. Who gives a damn how fast it is if you have to pay over a grand to get it. I mean damn, not only could you get a whole computer for that much, but you could also buy an older processor, overclock it and blast it with some liquid nitrogen. Alright, that last part was a joke... looks like AMD stays ahead this round and is still cheaper.
something tangible? There numbers are based off of Intel's competing processor's frequencies for Christ's sake. Pull your head out your ass and learn how to do [gasp] a google search!
And yet my conscience is at ease. Have you not seen what they have done to us? Let's see, they keep copyrighted works out of the public domain, simply so they can make money off of dead people's ideas. We get to PAY for DRM media that has limited use. They (specifically the RIAA on this one) sue poor families to seek "damages". And then you have to weed through the 90% of their products which are pure CRAP. I'm sorry, but I have a hard time trying to justify giving these people MY money. It's these people who aren't changing with the times. I'm waiting for this old business model to die, but people like you are only making their hold on the market last longer. But it's cool, I'm never buying a music cd again in my life, nor am I downloading them illegally off the net. I support the artists who don't sell their souls to the devil. I want people who are in it for the art, not the money.
Ha, need access to the latest movies, damn right I don't!
[/rant]
No, what you're speaking of is a huge faction of the majority who opposes the minorty. The point here is, just because you're in the minorty(or are a minority) doens't mean you're wrong. This can be seen all throughout our history, with good examples from both sides. Majority rule: Native Americans go on the Trail of Tears. Minorty Rule: blacks and women are allowed to vote. If you don't recall, the whole black freedom thing was kind of a big deal, almost split the country in two. Definately was NOT the popular thing to do, but it was the RIGHT thing to do. So no, people are stupid and I definately don't want the majority making decisions.
Ohh, I see. You can affod to burn money, so everyone else should too! You're missing something here. Most people who are downloading illegal content are college students. So you expect some college kid to give the little money they have to someone who has alot of money?

I wish your tinfoil hat would fit over your mouth. And fingers too, i guess.

Don't forget the whole Elton John thing... yikes
Nsync is a sign of the appocalypse.
I just ask that you embrace those around you
Great idea.

Yes, these people should die MUCH more horrible deaths for their stupidity.
