  1. StRUT on Ask Slashdot: What To Do With Over 500 Used DIMMs? · · Score: 1

Many states have a StRUT (Students Recycling Used Technology) program. Oregon, for example has a website here: http://www.strut.org/. You can donate used computer equipment and students learn how to put it together and place computers in the classroom or students' homes. That's how I got my start in technology. It's a great cause.

  2. One Year Computer Science Degree from Oregon State on Ask Slashdot: Getting a Tech Job With Skills But No Formal Degree? · · Score: 2

Oregon State University now offers an online, one-year, computer science degree. The only requirement is that you have ANY bachelor's degree. This sounds perfect for this "friend." Do the time and work and you'll be employable by any company that wants to hire a CS grad. Reference: http://eecs.oregonstate.edu/new-online-post-baccalaureate-computer-science-degree

The subject is the title of a book I just finished reading. Being a programmer myself, it has opened my eyes to a WIDE array of possibilities and is causing me to dream big! Get yourself a copy from the library or have a cup of coffee at Borders and read it over the next week or so and you will learn how to take your skills to ANY industry and apply yourself to get the position you love.

  4. Re:Most jobs are boring on New Grads Shun IT Jobs As "Boring" · · Score: 1

If jobs were very exciting and fulfilling in and of themselves, we wouldn't need to pay people to do them.

I disagree. Perhaps that's because I've read too many books like "48 days to the work you love" but I disagree. I think that people should find work that they love, by first changing your attitude about work. In this age, you can find something you love and a million other people that love that and make money doing it. Some people love to make CAT5 cables, test them and patch routers. Some people probably love configuring routers and see their work result in people being able to have access and be productive (or read Slashdot) at work. It's the attitude that counts -- do the work you love and believe that you will be successful at it and you will.

The "Centrino" you speak of is a brand name which includes multiple pieces of silicon. The processor included in the "Centrino" brand is a Pentium M. The new "Centrino" second generation includes the Pentium Duo or Solo. Therefore, Apple IS technology from "Centrino."

I have definitely used Windows, even if it was the 64 bit edition, and EFI at the same time. Both operating systems (Linux and Windows) can support EFI, so it is just a matter of time before each of them releases it. I'll bet my dollar on Linux because there is a whole community of nerds out there who want it way worse than Microsoft does, in my opinion.

Honestly, how do you expect a so-called "beakless" chicken to ever grow? There is no such thing as a "beakless" chicken. When was the last time you went to a chicken farm? Stop believing everything you read online or see on TV. A beakless chicken would not be able to feed itself and farmers are sure not shoving tubes down chicken's throats. Technology is a wonderful thing but it IS true that we must consider all of the ethics with the creations we come up with.

I don't think I've ever seen any records of anyone living past 120; or was it 119? I just don't think 160 years is possible for a human. You can take all the vitamins you want, and whoever wants to stimulate their genes can do so. I'm going to stick to eating healthy and exercising!

  10. Re:How many times? on Beginning Of the End For PC Noise · · Score: 0

It's not just Windows that is running on these machines. I have Linux running on my desktop and there are many other operating systems out there. True, Mac may be superior in this category, but it's their hardware that is superior, not their software.
