well then that's kinda like asking why "all your base" became what it is. :P part of it is because we're all sad and one-dimensional enough that adopting meaningless phrases to amuse ourselves. other well known ones include "i did not have sexual relations with that woman"

maybe try reading some of the other posts a bit more often, eh? /. is attempting to appeal to more female readers (the 1.5% of them (or some dismal figure like that) that do exist)). so, as an april fools thing, they decided to make the site more ... "feminine"....not to be confused with "blinding" or "retina-searing." /. already appealed to me anyway (duh) but who knows, it might work. i dont know if the pink will necessarily attract intelligent women, but then again, i dont know just how many 40 year old virgins post on here, so IQ might not be that high on the priority list. ;)

of course you can all ignore the fact that I'm (unfortunately) a member of that sex and age group- aka I have to live among the giggling, screeching masses.

True, the majority of readers here are undoubtly males. I often find myself the lone female at most...no...all LAN's, hence the ability to play under the character name "theFemale" and still have everyone know who I am. The self-evident fact is that the tiny female percentage that does post and follow the headlines most likely consists of the more intellectual crowd. These women can probably change their own tires, build their own desktops, and most importantly think independently. I retain a sense of pride in the fact that I am a member of this minority; a minority that's focused on the important issues rather than what color to paint their nails.

also, no, I'm not a lesbian - in fact I'n a great relationship at the present.

and no that relationship isn't with my computer, though I love it dearly

  7. Re:Why use a robot? on Robotic Hand Translates Speech into Sign Language · · Score: 1

this is about more than just cost benefit. These small achievements are improving the level of complexity in future AI. Besides, the better they can improve the complexity of andriod hand/arm movement, the faster you'll get that better bionic/cyber hand. Furthermore, if they can get this hand to write, think about the benfits for amputees.

  8. Re:Text is not the same on Robotic Hand Translates Speech into Sign Language · · Score: 1

Why not just give it the dual ability to write and sign depending on circumstance...signing is a start in the direction of more complex hand motions, the next big step is to construct a hand that can balance well enough to write.

all i can say is that the kid was damn lucky. if you're going to write a worm, at least don't get caught. the problem with people writing viruses is that it will come back to them. it may take some time, but it will be traced, the source will be found. now he has this on his record, and emplyment, especially in the tech field, is now going to be extremly difficult. teenagers writing up worms and viruses need to realize that though it does take skill, there are consequences. 12. my input on this unimportant subject on Dell and Napster Going Directly to Colleges · · Score: 2, Interesting

    - there have got to be higher priorities for colleges
    - Napster is a fading light, which is moreso confirmed by this
    - college students are adults (or in some cases near-adults); they can choose what to do with their time- they're paying the tuition
    - if we don't get music one way we'll find 10 others
    - how does downloading differ from listening to the radio? i could record off the radio if i so chose.
    - the bigger issue of the government cracking down on piracy so supposedly "fiercely" proves how skewed america's priorities are - it's simply an issue of the record companies not getting that other few million, boo hoo.
