You forgot to add
Know about where all the undocumented symliinks point to that are scattered all over the fucking filesystems of the 529 odd known different distributions of 'Linux' (source : distrowatch "Number of all distributions in the database: 529")
I've been waiting a long time for Linux developers to acknowledge & deal with dependency hell. Looks like it's gonna be a long wait more yet judging by the posts in every public forum. A joke indeed, which is a tragedy.
I believe there are anti racketeering laws in your USA against just such a shakedown tactic. All we need is one firm to blow the whistle & M$ is in a world of hurt.
No matter what you say the m$ schills will howl you down. I don't argue with people over their choice of OS any more, I just let them stew in their own juice.
Case in point :
My local parish priest mentioned to me that he was sick to death of getting someone to reinstall his Windows OS due to registry corruption, malware et al . He knew I was a Mac user & since I had never pushed it down his throat he asked me for advice. I gave him a summary of pros & cons of Win/Mac/Lin asked what apps he absolutely had to have etc. A friend loaned him a powerbook for a week with the understanding that he ask for uidance if stuck.
Next Sunday after Mass he grabs me & proudly explains how he just bought a new Wintel Acer latop. My first thought was "But what about...." then I just bit my toungue.
Let em drown in their bugridden malware rubbish i say.
It's over a decade since I first crouched over an enormous pile of 3.5" floppy disks containing all the disk images of Linux that I had painfully downloaded via a then blazing fast 9600bps modem.
Nothing has changed!!!!!!!!!
Sure the hardware has attained incredible speeds but one still spends untold hours coping with systme borking dist upgrades gone wrong. Buggy / unfinished OS installers? Yep, still got'em.
I've got an enoourmous pile of floppies / cd's / dvd's of every imaginable Linux distros dating back from 6 hours ago right back to 1992 & none of them acknowledge or address dependency hell.
When are Linux Distro authors going to improve their game on this?
Seems like until somebody address's the fundamental design flaw of complete anarchy in Linux land then it will never change.
I've waited all these years for a clear winner to emerge from the chaos but to this day there are just more & more & more half assed distro's appearing. It's fucking inescusable in this day & age for Companies like Novell & Ubuntu to continue to release distro's that have these BASIC design problems. Even bloody M$ have done soemthing to address dependency hell!
I've read all the zealotry & "but you should use 'x' distro" until my retina's burned & I just don't buy it any more. IMHO Linux has missed it's opportunity as a desktop OS.
The TI-99/4a got great reviews, lot's of people in Oz wanted to get their hands on them but they sold out quickly in the large retail stores & were never stocked again. (Probably due to ignorance of purchasing staff in big retailers who treated them like toasters)

Yes Rob, thats right they were fully fledged microcomputers.
The ones I saw were just like todays machines, keyboard, screen sitting on a desktop case. Picture a tandy or PC, only MUCH cheaper, more in the range of a commodore or TI.
They were big in Japan & solved the problem of having to be a dos guru to get a game to run, just plug a cartridge in to the MSX & play.
Microcomputers should have gone in a direction but Stupidity at Commodore killed that, market ignorance/resistance killed the MSX, IBM stupidity gave a college drop out with nothing a chance to lie his way into providing a slapped together OS ripped off from others hard work & become the richest man in the world....
Some person over on Groklaw who went by the nym "Allparadox" said he had to stop because as an ex lawyer he could be done for practising without a license just for merely expressing a personal opinion in a comment thread.
In our country we smile wryly, shake our heads in disbelief & say "Only in America..."
I'm old enough to remember the MSX machines. They promised to standardise games & software, giving a capable microcomputer kinda like an IBM PC but much cheaper.
At that time IBM PC's were hideously expensive, the average joe could only afford a Commodore 64/128, Ti etc but they had no interoperability of software at all.
Here in OZ importers/wholesalers advertised them a fair bit in computer magazines but not the main stream press. Retailers did'nt pick up the ball. Consumers could'nt find the games or software for them. They fizzled out. The end.
Just have somewhere for the _hot_ exhaust air from your server to go so that the room does not heat up while the office is closed & the room A/c is off.
The ambient air sucked into the sever will be enough to cool it s long as the hotter exhast is ducted out of the room.
Household clothes dryers have exhaust duct kits available for them for the same reason... are you getting a hint here??
Buy a cheap duct kit, send the hot air outside, maybe install a vent somewhere in the apartment to let cooler outside air into the apartment.
Simple.
I have a Power Mac sitting in our SOHO apartment. This thing was obviously designed by Apple with good cooling in mind. The front & rear of the case is fully vented. There are something like 7 fans in this case all turning _slowly_quietly_ & moving heat OUT of the case efficiently. We can barely here it running.
I live in Brisbane Australia where our summers get into the mid 30's c with high humidity. (Sorry Americans, we like most other counties, are on the metric system)

If you don't agree with an opinion thats one thing but this anonymous censoring is total bullshit.
Hope Novell get royally shafted bu Microshaft just like all those before them who sold their souls to the devil.
What else can you expect from them but embrace, extend & extinguish...
It's not a coincidence that they sign up with the Linux is full of M$ IP bullshit & then start killing off direct competitors to M$.
A sad day for SuSE, Linux & for freedom in general.
Big business OWNS you in the USA.
I don't retract my sentiments.
I saw sense & switched to Mac OS X long ago, ymmv.
I love the way Microsoft apologists just accept that YAFP (yet another fucking patch) is quite normal....
Is their monopoly so utterly complete that _no_ amount of inconvenience will drive users away from the platform?
I think the ipod vs Zune thing will be interesting to watch.

Why do we need all this dulipcation? Wireless USB v's Bluetooth etc etc...
Mythical WiMax or whatever they call it...
It's madness I tell you! Madness!
Bah Humbug!
sudden outbreak of common sense... and this cost their taxpayers how much to find out ??

I agree with the person from Panama.
Dedicated A/c is not absolutely necessary.
Just have somewhere for the _hot_ exhaust air from your server to go so that the room does not heat up while the office is closed & the room A/c is off.

If all the ISP's in the world ignored thi Judge from this brocken legal system, then what is this idiot judge do about it.
Nothing.
The USA is not the center of the world.
The Internet is not the USA, it's a world wide collection of people/computers.

This insane level of fragmentation of Linux distro's is what keeps me off it.
On the contrary I believe the $ in M$ sums up many peoples deep disgust at the obscene amounts of money this monopolist has accrued.
I'll have the good grace not to call you infantile names mr. anonymous.
