  1. Read The ruling on Judge Rules Sites Can Be Sued Over Design · · Score: 1

Taking some time, I read the ruling, and for a large site such as Target, they deserved it. First the DRA (Disabily Rights Activist) tried to reason with Target, which in return Target dismissed them. From the ruling:

The plaintiffs originally filed the complaint in Alameda superior court on February 7, 2006. The case was removed to federal district court and assigned to Judge Marilyn Hall Patel. Target responded to the suit by filing a motion to dismiss the case, which argued in part that no civil rights laws apply to the Internet.

"We tried to convince Target that it should do the right thing and make its website accessible through negotiations," said Dr. Maurer. "It is unfortunate that Target took the position that it does not have to take the rights of the blind into account. The ruling in this case puts Target and other companies on notice that the blind cannot be treated like second class citizens on the Internet or in any other sphere."

Another interesting note is that if you are blind, you can't access the site at all, well some, but you would not even be able to purchase anything. From the ruling again:

Target is a big company, and therefore has a responibilty to all demographics, even the disabled. Making a site compliant is not very difficult, in fact a big part is just making ure there is a text only alternative to images, and to use text as much as possible. This does no require a complete site redesign, only some minor tweaking, unless it is flash based, even then there are work-arounds. Not every site will be sued, only those that chose to deny those unable to access there site due to disabilities.

    And yeh thats it

Any job application / report to a customer / business proposal instantly loses its authority in the eyes of the recipient if said recipient detects a spelling or grammatical error. Think about that before applying the sarcasm on with a trowel next time.

Usually because narrow minded individuals such as yourself fail to see past one simple error. Are you proud of the fact that you would disregard any job applicant or proposal because of such trivialities? Food for thought. I mean if it is full of mistakes, I understand, but one. However it is 3 in the morning, sure i mispelled something, so please disregard. Idiot

All i am saying is how can us as developers account for every single action a user, or hacker may try.

I wrote a custom data source for a servlet once that would auth each user using the account in the db and connect as them to the db. It really breaks how server side java is supposed to work though. One of the big ideas of J2EE is you're supposed to move almost all the logic that used to be data related in the DB up a layer into the middleware. It helps sun take customers from big DB vendors, but makes real world security much harder. Did something similsr, but with php and mysql, since it was intended for small to medium businesses, i pooled user in the grant table and used randomly genereated alphanumeric passwords. Might have been a tad much, buti love all that cloak and dagger stuff lmao

People who stick onto one technolgy are narrow-minded and tend to write "inefficiet code" trying to force a lannguage to do things it was never intended to do. Like i said, there are reasons for it, preference just should not be one of them.

I feel it is the popularity of its player. Since so many people have been purchasing an Ipod, and besides a few problems with the nano, are really satisfied. Then as many people in slashdot say they would pay for music if it were easy to obtain and better priced. Though its not perfect, Apple is a pretty trustworthy company, so people give them benefit of the doubt. Also the Ipod is targeted to non-technophiles, and these people would probably pay a few bucks not to feel the wrath of the **AA's. Throw in the fact that Apple presents itself as a hip and trustworthy company, and the success falls into play. Apple just took more things into consideration than any other mp3 player has.

The different "search types" on google are not really different at all, i figure google just takes the stress of adding teh keywords. And one thing you do not realize is where you are looking. I know that when i search i get as specific as possible because "apple" will only leave me with millions of pages to look through. However "Apple Mac || Macintosh hardware" i limit my search. And if you are in the IT industry using "lingo" helps even more. Searching may be hard to get the knack of, but once you do, you'll never be the same ;/

Alot of people went to the theater for the experience, to watch a movie ona giant screen with great sound. The problem is that technology allows us to enjoy the same things at home. With innovations in HDTV, LCDTV, projectors, and sound, most of us hove theaters already. Then to top it off it is not fair to pay for something and still have to pay. With the 20 mins of ads, the overcrowding and noise, if hollywood does not come up with a better model TV will wipe the floor with them, actually they already are. Its like the arcade, who realy goes to one now when cosoles and computers can create the same graphics. Then to top it off arcades were usually pricey to begin with, guess theaters will join them, wonder if i can get a used screen someday soon?

Hello to everyone is slashdot, this is my first post. I just wonder will society ever be ready for forms of technology that require more than "point and click". I mean these days, with all teh science and technology out there, still wouldn't know how to set the time in a VCR. With technilogical progression, shouldn't our grasp of these technologies rise as well. Computers were suppose to make time for more work, more discovery, not for more leisure. If we continue to use technology as a crutch and not as a tool, regression is inevitable. We've all seen the Sci-Fi interpretation, civilizations lost due to ignorance and sloth. Just food for thought i guess i'll stop now lol
