  1. Re:Do passports already have RFID's in them? on RFID-Reading Passport Scanners Installed · · Score: 2, Informative

Yes, they began putting them in as of at least Summer 2005. I know this because I got married and needed to change my name on my passport. This used to require a simple addendum to the back and was free. However, since I had the old non-RFID passport, I was required to pay ~$70 for a new one. Suck.

I'm not sure but MIT and Standford are pretty good considering they cater to the over-privileged.

What on earth do you base this on? I can't speak for Stanford, but MIT covers 100% of need based aid. I went there for undergrad, and I knew very few people who did not receive any financial aid at all.

"You don't live in Boston, so you don't hear about what MIT is often in the news for: students getting really hammered, and occasionally falling out of dorm room windows and getting killed."

I, however, have not only lived in the Boston area my entire life, but I am an MIT grad as well. I have never heard of a student falling out of a dorm window. Jumping, yes. Falling out drunk? No.

10 years ago, one student did die from a drinking related incident, and about 6 or 7 years ago, a student died from a drug related incident. I would not call this being often in the news for drug/alcohol related deaths.

Actually, I worked with Alex when he was at MIT, and while I never saw him correct the other birds, I did see him give them the wrong answers, on purpose, in hopes that he would get their nut. Or maybe he was just being a big jerk.

It was amazing how much that bird knew though.

Yeah, but women just complain about it, instead of trying to get into the games industry.

Interesting. So all women who wish games were less male orientated not only must be programmers, but enjoy the fun and exciting life of a game programmer- low pay, long hours, and a crappy high stress environment.

Luckily, there ARE more female friendly games out there: Kings Quest, Monkey Island, The Longest Journey...basically any game from the Adventure genre. Unfortunely, very few of these games are made anymore. I blame Roberta Williams, and her God-Awful KQ8- Mask of Eternity.

This is an inefficient market. They pay more to cripple their own product, and then sell it for less.

I highly doubt that this is as "inefficient" as you think, since this is exactly how most software companies work.

Wow, I had no idea that a dick, even one as small as yours, was required to figure out how to pirate games! Damn my moronic lady lumps.

Except that this project is done by a particular lab with its own funding. Did you think that all research projects done at MIT are paid for with tuition?

  10. I've worked with this damn parrot on Alex, The Brainy Parrot Who Knows About Zero · · Score: 1

Five years ago, this parrot and its owner worked at MIT, and I interned with her lab. While it was amazing how smart Alex was, he really was a big jerk. Really. When we were trying to train one of the two other parrots, he'd sometimes throw out the wrong answers. The stupider birds would repeat Alex's answers, and therefore not get any nuts. I swear, Alex thought this was hilarious. That's why it does not surprise me at all that this bird proved he knew the concept of none during a temper tantrum.
