Yes you may, but I looked at them hoping to find something useful such as the vi mug that my former colleague had, but all the cheat sheets seemed to be so basic that there really is no use for them if you do these things on a daily basis and you cannot really find useful information. Most of these attribute names I know in my sleep, but my memory fails on me when I have to come up with legal values for them. Same with PHP, I know the function names, but fail to recall whether the needle or the haystack comes first. I recommend php.net and w3.org. (For JavaScript, I don't know any GOOD references)

I think the empty small tab seemed okay, except that it was ugly at first, but I would like to get one to get the feel for it.

And as for the close button, I find the placement of close button to be the best (at least for me) in Galeon, where it is in each tab and I can close tabs when they are not on top without using the right mouse button.

In Galeon I also like the fact that you can reorder tabs, detach them and move them to another window.

This is exactly what my boss doesn't seem to get, however often I try to explain it to him. I do software development for a living in an open office without even cubicles. I have very hard time to concentrate on my tasks when other people - my boss included - come around every half a minute to ask me when I will have time to do something or just keep having meetings one meter (a little over three feet for those of you who are not familiar with the metric system) behind my back.

Especially this is difficult when I cannot give an instant answer and have to think about it for a minute. I first need to change my way of thinking into the model of the interrupting project and then back to the original project that I'm supposed to be working on. Afterwards I probably have to figure out some things for the second time because they were lost in the process.

E-mails or IM's aren't so bad, they just pop up a little square in the lower left corner of the screen and I can deal with them later. Other people or phonecalls are harder to ignore.

  9. I think this is highly welcome on Fold 'n' Drop Window Interaction · · Score: 1

This is something I for one welcome and have need for similar functionality every day. Now in windows I have to drag something to the taskbar (or whatever it is called), wait for the correct application to pop up and then continue the drag to the window. I think this is a highly innovative and I wonder why this hasn't been done before. And the way to do it seems very intuitive.

And to clarify, I am comfortable with ctrl+c/x/v, but they don't work for every application. If I have already selected something with a mouse, it is nice to be able to drag it to another window, which is overlapped by the window I am dragging from.

The problem is that I am always out of desktop space when I work and there are other things to drag and drop besides files between folders. (Also I use the mouse with my left hand, so ctrl+c/x/v actually makes me move my hand more back and forth between the mouse and the keyboard or move my right hand to the left hand side of the keyboard)

Gnome and Win XP implementations for me, please.

  10. Why do I want this? on yellowTAB's Zeta 1.0 Reviewed · · Score: 2, Interesting

I admit that I'm totally ignorant of BeOS - all I know about it is the name.

Who is this for and what kind of things are they supposed to do with it? What does it offer that current operating systems with lots of applications don't offer? From the GUI orientation of the article I suppose this is not for some specific server need.

Variety is good, but what (good) variety does this bring?

  11. Re:Won't someone please think of the children? on Optimus Keyboard With OLED Display Keys · · Score: 1

I for one agree. I don't want the function keys on the left side of the keyboard for health reasons. I started using the mouse with my left hand instead of the right one to stop having pains in my wrist and elbow. The pain resulted probably from having to twist my right arm to move my right hand beyond the numeric keypad. On the left hand side the need for movement is shorter and the arm is less twisted and I have not experienced pain since.

I always get asked if I'm left-handed, though, which I'm not. I also still have right-handed mouse button configuration, I don't see the need to change mouse button order..

  12. Re:Huh? on The Internet Archive Sued Over Stored Pages · · Score: 1

In my view web sites are in nature closer to radio or TV than printed media. When someone puts something on a server that is connected to internet, the content is intentionally made publicly available. When the content is removed from the server, it is intentionally withdrawn from being publicly available. A book or a newspaper is a physical object (and at least here, public libraries have certain rights in the copyright law to produce copies of copyrighted material).

Because the content is available (at copyright holder's will) only for a certain period of time, it is not meant to be forever publicly available and therefore at least according to our local copyright laws, it cannot be distributed without the permission of the copyright holder outside of that time.

Possibly because they are making a copy of copyrighted material and distributing such a copy or making it available for download. Is this fundamentally different from for example recording music from radio or shows from TV and redistributing them?
