So all the hot stuff we've been chucking into our environment for the last couple centuries just magickally went away? All the CO and SO2 likewise? All the forests that have been cleared sprang up anew someplace else that only you managed to notice?
I just try really hard not to think too much about the many mental hoops some folks must jump through to avoid conclusions that should be patently obvious to any 6th-grader of reasonable intelligence.
I know formally agnostic people who got into 'new age' mysticism and became (in some form) Buddhist through reading and learning online.
If they got into mysticism, they most certainly did not become Buddhists. Buddhism starts out by telling you to accept nothing on faith, to use your senses and mind to learn the truth, and that ignorance is the root cause of all suffering.
And please learn the difference between "formal" and "former". I believe you actually intended the latter.
That's... not really standard, and is perhaps a customisation best left avoided, if you don't want people to think you're talking about a prostitute.:)
Oh. My bro-in-law's response might seem a bit more relevant if I'd remembered to mention that my wife is from Guangzhou, and that her brother lives and owns a large and fairly successful business there.:)
Same here. No attempts at obfuscation or what have you, either. And I used to get similar messages on Skype before I started blocking anyone not on my contact list. Now I just get an occasional contact request from someone at some Chinese company. Pipes, plastics, wire/cable, and construction equipment.
I was passing through Shenzhen a couple of years ago, and the bus went right by the office (very large building, very prominent signage) of one of the companies I'd received mail from. I can't recall the name any longer, but my brother-in-law later told me that it's a well-known firm in the region and has a fairly good reputation. So I guess at least some of these offers were the real deal.
So you're going to ignore completely the fact that our desire to bond and share a home with another (or others) is at the core of what makes us human.
Laws concerning marriage did not arise in a vacuum. They came about because, when humans reach maturity, they typically pair up to live, eat, sleep, share resources, and often make babies together; and these pairings tend to be exclusive (or mostly so), lifelong (or at least spanning many years), and recognised by others as family/social units.
Reproductive concerns aside, it is still in society's interest to encourage stable social groups, and social groups don't get any more basic than couples.

It is not the same.
Um, that was sort of... you know... my point. B^)
Heh, I might have known. Same day that openSUSE issued their patch, even.
Huh? Current exchange rate is roughly $1.40 = €1.00.
Sales taxes in Europe are lower than the US.
Eh, what? Which planet were you speaking of, again?
My distro patched this over a month ago.

That's a lousy attempt at refutation which gets shredded in the comments.
King Mongkut was a good and wise and practical Buddhist who definitely knew which end of the bowl to put the rice in.
He's practically revered as a god even today in Thailand. On top of my bookshelf there stands an image of him--a gift from friends there.
"We'll always have Window Maker." :)
(No shit, I still install it on every box that I set up. Even though it doesn't come with a built-in taskbar.)
Come to Sweden. You'll be able to access any of that info about me or anybody else here.

Do not feed the trolls.
I don't think that phrase means what you think it does.
< and > are your friends.
From our friends over at Merriam-Webster:
panic
noun
: a state or feeling of extreme fear that makes someone unable to act or think normally
: a situation that causes many people to become afraid and to rush to do something
You were saying...?
Or better yet, a link to source or installation image.
Do you even know what a kernel panic is, or what is likely to cause one?
B-b-b-b-but the cool kids all watch YouTube!
Fine, go off and sit in your little cave by yourself while the rest of us enjoy this civilisation thing which you apparently don't have a use for.
Funny? I was completely serious.
Also, Roman does not appear to be at all afraid to log in before posting his little rants, so I'm disinclined to believe an AC claiming to be him.
I am running KDE 4.11.5, I have a taskbar, and you are making shit up.
(with apologies to Paul Harvey)
Bill Clinton went even further and signed the defense of marriage act into law.
Well, whaddaya know, folks, that is actually 100% TRUE! BUT--here's page 2:
Initially introduced in May 1996, DOMA passed both houses of Congress by large, veto-proof majorities...
And there you have... The Rest Of The Story!
