Android is an OS that leverages the Linux Kernel. Android is not Linux. There is this notion that the Linux community wants to spread that anyone who borrows the kernel is just another Linux distro. Android has it's own VM, it's own system libraries, etc. It runs a java language for apps that is not common to Linux.

The worst part is that Google is enjoying this confusion as a big benefit. They are closing the doors on the garden with Android, yet many Linux fanatics are comfortable entering to have tea with Brin.

Someone would have to be paying me quite a lot before I could say all that with a straight face.

And they don't *want* MySQL to succeed: they want it *dead* in the industrial space, so people will use Oracle's much more prifitable databases. They bought Sun to get the commercial database customer list, to shoot that incompatible Sun architectural oddness through the head, and to shut MySQL down.

This is EXACTLY why Oracle have, I dunno, *doubled* the number of devs and QA working on MySQL! It's all a ruse! Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!

Oracle do a lot of things. Things that waste tonnes of money--e.g. paying hundreds of staff to develop a product you're planning to discontinue--are generally not among them.

I had one of those Zen X-FIs, too. They rocked. They *stored, transferred, and played back music files* quite nicely.

In other words, they acted the way a reasonable media player ought. My sole gripe was that they didn't play all media files and there was no way to add support for those that were lacking.

Smartphone takes care of that now, though. VLC works fine on all 3 of my Android devices, and I've yet to find a format it doesn't play, and thus I've no need for any other media player software on any of the platforms I use (Android, Linux, and occasionally Windows) or, any longer, for dedicated hardware, for that matter.

Except that they got it wrong:

...SkyNet, the supercomputer from the Terminator movies that's so intelligent, it decides that the world would be better off if it ruled over humanity."

This would be true if and only if "ruled over" were the same as "exterminated".
