I love how that comment was taken as flamebait. I'm just stating the obvious, from a genuinely concerned point of view. Why not get children interested in the Holidays for what it really is (depending on what religion you are and what holiday you celebrate within this time-frame). From how I see it, "Santa Claus" is just an excuse for people to go on irresponsible shopping-sprees and to make kids greedy and forget everything about why these holidays came about and what they stand for, for the sake of a new XBOX360.
Anyone care to explain what this whole "Price Fixing" thing is? Seriously. From the way I see it (maybe I don't completely understand the concept), shouldn't a company be allowed to choose what price they want to sell their product for?
"Google Earth To Track Santa"? This is not cute. What is the point of lying to your kids to make them believe in something that doesn't exist. There's a lot more ways to make your kids happy and enjoy the holidays without having to rely on empty gimmicks in order for them to like it.

Seriously... it may simulate thought freakishly accurately. But it still doesn't think. By my standards, we'll have achieved creating a digital/robotic, sentient being when the original code is entirely basic, but develops its knowledge and personality by using senses/experiences in order to learn and develop itself. And even then, emotions are going to be a really hard one to put in there. It's a little more difficult than just saying, If bot.senses(touch) = poked then bot.speach(yell) = "OW!" End If
Okay. Ethics, in a nutshell, is the "study of morality". Morals is, in a nutshell, "One's personal guidlines to the distinction between good and bad" So where morals is the actual distinction, "Killing people is bad", ethics asks the question, "Why is killing bad?" or "Why do we think killing is bad?". Think of it as Ethics being "Philosphy" and Morals being "Religion". So where ethics talks about the moral dilemma, morals is the actual decision of what we believe to be true about the dilemma. I don't believe "Ethics" fits in this context, because the scientist is not debating whether or not the decision was moral, but has made a clear stance against the decision. And hence, is a "Moral" stance.
Gross breaches of your morality? Perhaps. I hate it when people replace the word "morals" with "ethics", thinking that they're both synonymous. Learn the difference.
I see some wisdom being spoken in this thread. It all boils down to how strong-willed the person is. Because no matter how addicted you are to anything, if you *really* wanted to quit, you would.

The war is far from over, if you judge them both at this point, that'd be like comparing Windows 3.11 with Linux kernel version 1.0. Though you must admit, the statue is a cute gesture. You can tell it's just the competitive spirit, nothing defamatory or serious.
I don't know if someone's said this already, but it's worth saying again if it has:
Why should Google be held accountable for an indirect result of its technology doing what it does well? If so, then does this mean the **AA is right in defaming torrent because some people can use it for what they're not supposed to? And in this case with Google, I have to say only one thing, "Aw, muffin... Wal-Mart CEOs can't take the fact that people can buy their stuff somewhere else? Don't forget, you're not the *only* retail outlet in the world, no matter how hard you wish upon a star."
You could always install Microsoft SFU. I know it's Unix, but, it's a free compiler that you can choose to install or not. On a related note, could you imagine a Windows operating system with even more fat than it already comes with? No thanks. I'll just install stuff as I need it.
I read that first paragraph and, upon coming to a conclusion about your lack of intellect, decided to not finish reading the rest of that post. Let me put your logic into a different, yet similar, situation:
Cars. That's it. You're telling me that because a company (or organization), invented this magical horseless-carriage, that the parent company has the right to dictate and control speed limits, road-laws, licensing, taxes, and everything else that goes with the car in every country in the world?
Sorry to spoil it for you, but the internet is the internet, and every country has jurisdiction in its own area. Now, if *all of the internet* was hosted on servers in the U.S. and the rest of the world were just clients connecting to it, then I might agree. But as it stands, I don't.
Thousands of nerds on-line complaining about the irresponsibilities of their government, but who don't actually do anything about it. That's the beauty of being a democracy, learn from your fucking forefathers; go out there and make a change. Do you really think your government has the power to stop millions of pissed-off Americans with guns? Change does not come easy. "For anything worth having one must pay the price; and the price is always work, patience, love, self-sacrifice - no paper currency, no promises to pay, but the gold of real service"
As someone who's had a congenital heart valve defect (aortic valve stenosis) since birth, and who's undergone 3 open heart surgeries before the age of 20, two of them in rapid sucession last christmas, and who now has an artificial valve ticking inside of him requireing lifelong warfarin consumption...
No it's not funny. Heart disease doesn't necessarily mean bad lifestyle. Some people just get screwed by fate. Have a stroll through a children's hospital lobby someday and see if your empathy still works.
I suppose this is an overreaction though. It's more of a personal thing. I don't find heart disease funny.
Did I say I didn't empathize with people who have heart disease by some ill chance of fate? No. Do I empathize with people that get heart-attacks while wolfing down 12 pounds of pork-chops? No. He was making fun of people that get heart damage because they're fat from eating too much junk food, which I completely agree with. Am I an insensitive clod? Perhaps. But if you get unhealthy because you can't control your eating habits, don't come looking for my shoulder to cry on.

Why don't you? If you've got a "good" idea, why not make some profit? :-)

That just made my day; thank you, AuMatar, for your wisdom. :-)
