  1. Re:gabbo Gabbo GABBO! on Miyamoto Hints At Second Revolution Secret · · Score: 1

If you can find total sales stats for a date more current I'd be more than happy to see them. I can't see to find them when I do a search. Yet again you make an assumption without providing any facts at all. PSP being dominated? Far from it. The PSP is staying quite competitive with the DS even with their lack of strong games.

  2. Re:gabbo Gabbo GABBO! on Miyamoto Hints At Second Revolution Secret · · Score: 0, Redundant

You are absolutely incorrect when you say that the DS is dominating the market. Every time I go on Slashdot, I see the same thing being said. The DS is killing PSP in sales, etc etc. Yet no one ever actually quotes any numbers. Let me do it for you...from DSrevolution.com (current as of June 19): DS - 1,003,578 (2,499,174 overall sales) PSP - 957,308 (1,439,560 overall sales) Pretty close don't you think? This is before the PSP had even launched in Japan and with the DS having a half of a year head start in the United States and Canada.

  3. Re:Long Term Sales? on Nintendo's Profits Fall On Gamecube Sales · · Score: 1

According to Iwata, "It [the Revolution] would be a complete failure if we didn't sell more units than the Nintendo GameCube.". If Gamecube's sales were fine with Nintendo why wouldn't they be fine for the succesor system? The reality is the Gamecube underperformed and Nintendo needs to do better this time around. Nintendo understands this but fans seem to have a tough time accepting it.

  4. Re:Price Point Prediction: $200 USD on Revolution Least Expensive Next-Gen Console · · Score: 1

Iwata himself stated that if sales numbers aren't better than Gamecube, the Revolution would be considered a failure. Nintendo HAS to do better this time around, whether they will or not is up to the consumer.

A PG-13 movie cannot have more than one fuck or it gets the R rating. There's also limited blood in most PG-13 movies, which is the reason for the ridicously fast editing during action scenes.

  6. Western gamers on Nintendogs Sells Quarter of a Millions Units · · Score: 1

The idea that since Nintendogs, a very well made pet simulator, has sold 250,000 copies in a week, somehow contradicts the notion that western gamers are tending towards more mature titles is inaccurate. Here are some raw numbers: Fable - 375,000 units in its first week. Madden 06 - 1,700,000 first week. Halo 2 - 2,800,000 first DAY. San Andreas - Over 2,500,000 in its first week. Nintendogs - 250,000 in its first week. Nintendogs will sell "ok" because its a well made game for a younger audience. The same young audience who generally do not play Halo, GTA, or Madden. The sales numbers though are not all that impressive as has been noted on this board and in reality it is just PR spinning from Nintendo.

Has there ever been a Slashdot article about Xbox360 that doesn't start out with a slew of Nintendo fans claiming how Revolution will be superior???

  8. Re:Not to troll, but... on New Xbox Live Pricing Revealed · · Score: 1

Sony, presumed to be cheaper? Huh? Lemme quote Ken Kutaragi of Sony, "...PS3 can't be offered at a price that's targeted towards households...." I imagine that this will be considerably more than the $299/$399 entry point of Xbox360. The original point that prospective 360 buyers will instead opt for a Nintendo or a more expensive Sony system because of a $50 yearly fee for online games seems absurd. The majority of games that they would play online with Xbox360 won't be available for either PS3 or Revolution. We again do not know Sony's or Nintendo's online business model as of yet. Nintendo has shown some hints with their DS online system, but they've also said that third parties may charge for playing their games online. So far only 1st party games are free. I would not be surprised if Sony started a Live-like service for PS3 and charged a nominal fee. As long as its a quality online experience most players won't worry too much about dropping another $50 a year.

Ah, the Nintendobots are out again. While MS is losing money currently with their video game division, Sony's Playstation division is keeping them afloat with record high profits. Sony as a whole has been losing revenue, but not because of Playstation 2.

  10. Re:Not to troll, but... on New Xbox Live Pricing Revealed · · Score: 3, Interesting

But...you are trolling. Every single article about XBox360 and the Nintendo trolls seem to come out and post about how great Revolution will be (not that anyone knows anything about it other than it's "revolutionary" and aimed at the a wide audience that includes the elderly). While Nintendo was the price leader this past round, that did not help them as they still came in second in Japan and third in Europe and North America. Your theory that consumers who are willing to pay $1000 for a console are unwilling to pay $50 a year for xbox live seems contradictary. What's $50 a year when you've spent $1000 on a single console? Of course the $1000 figure is absurd, as the system will sell for $299 and $399. Retailer bundles that may exceed $1000 have no relevance to the price of the actual system.
