Fraser Cain (Mark Mortimer) writes "Hacking sounds crass. It manifests images of short cuts, jobs poorly done and people most interested in just finishing, no matter what. In the computer industry, sometimes this perfectly portrays hackers. However, for an expert, a hack is the complete opposite. It's a beautiful, well thought resolution that uses minimal effort. Often only those in the know truly appreciate it. Robert and Barbara Thompson in their book, Astronomy Hacks compile tips and techniques for observing the night sky. Their methods seem simple, yet they include detail to show they are experts who are presenting hacks derived from years worth of knowledge." Read on for the rest of Mark's review.
this should prove very interesting. Linux is known to have a steep learning curve, couple that with it's application in this case. Seems to me like it's going to get expensive fast!
whinging does not mean 'to whinge'. Whinge means 'to whine' you cannot simply place 'ing' on any word and make it a process you 'moran' http://www.eskimokaka.be/images/morans.jpg;p, only webster can!
I am complaining! It is not too much to ask that slashdot editors not make something that is not news news. News is something that is 'new'! It might be news to you but to the site it is not news. news news news news news news news...
to answer your questions: Q: Why can't the slashdot editors find the dupes? A: Lazy, or just greedy. Every page load generates them a bit of money. By posting more often, readers are duped (pun intended) into refreshing.
Q: why can't anti-slash run real articles? Something interesting? A: I dont really care, they do not claim to be a news site! They are simply there to point out slashdots mistakes (exactly like you stated, * for you). If slashdot fixes the problems there will be no need for anti-slash. If this ever happens, I'm there with you.
Slashdot is a professional news site (trying not to laugh), it doesn't even validate its html, but instead if you try to validate their site you get the following: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fsla shdot.org. This does not happen by mistake, they are blocking the validator purposely (long story, check the duped archives). Where is all the money going? You would think that some of it would find its way back into the slashcode.
disclaimer: I am NOT associated with anti-slash, in fact I hate what they do. They shouldn't have to though!

An anonymous reader writes "In hopes of stemming the tide of students freely sharing copyrighted multimedia files over their campus networks, the University of California (UC) system has selected an online music and video service that supports Windows, Mac OS, and Linux to provide downloadable music and video for its approximately 200,000 student population. Unlike iTunes (which only supports Mac OS X and Windows) and Napster (which is Windows-only), Mindawn works with Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. In addition, instead of providing downloads that are degraded by what is known as "lossy compression," downloads from Mindawn are offered in both Ogg Vorbis and FLAC formats." (Vorbis files are lossy too, though my tin ears can't always tell.)
...sitting around whinging and moaning about about/....
1) if you can't spell 'whining' just use 'beaching'. It sounds much better, you phucking prick!
2) if anti-slash can do it, why the phuck can't slashdot editors do it? Its not like they actually write these articles themselves, they just post them (occasionally, several times).

my apologies for not being specific. I was referring to the educators.
